I've been at Crossfit Amarillo for 1 year now. I've been involved with sports, military and law enforcement training, physical fitness, and a very active lifestyle throughout my life. Most of my fitness after 50 involved powerlifting on my own. But a couple years ago I was just bored with some of my routines and doing my own thing and I just kind of quit doing it.I needed to get back at doing something, but at 61, I was not interested at joining some "bro" gym and I did not want to wait in line for the squat rack to open while someone is curling at it. I had some past experience with Crossfit workouts through my military and law enforcement careers, so I thought I'd give it another shot. I met with Nick at Crossfit Amarillo to learn more. I was impressed that he wanted to know about my past physical fitness journey and then he did a quick assessment of my mobility and took me through some of the more common movements we’d be doing during the workouts. That was an indicator to me that this gym prioritizes their members understanding of the “why” and that we’d be safe doing it.Every Crossfit Amarillo coach that I have encountered takes the time to coach each athlete through the movement. Elite fitness is not required, as there are some movements people just can’t anatomically perform for a number of reasons including past injuries. So there is no pressure to perform the prescribed movement or workout. There are scaled options to still help you benefit from the prescribed movement, which for me, has eventually led to doing more of the movements in full.I’ll close by saying that I am no longer bored with my workouts. I still get the strength training I enjoy and my fitness level has increased due to Crossfit Amarillo's programming. When I factor in the owners, coaches, facility, equipment, and the support of the others I’m working out with, it’s been the best experience I’ve had in fitness.
