Detroit arms is a wonderful place to receive your CPL all three instructors did an amazing job very informative. Lunch and snacks. They go above! I would definitely send my family and friends to them!

I recently completed the course. In general, the class met the legal requirement to obtain a CPL (as far as I know). At the end of the day, I did get the paperwork needed to get my CPL application which was what I looking for.That said though, If I were to do it over again, I would look elsewhere. The first two hours felt more like a sales pitch for various goods and services rather than technical instruction.As others mentioned it's a drive to get to the range. I choose this business as a suggestion from a local gun store, and did not do my due diligence of online research to see that. With payments being non-refundable, my hands were tied. So that's on me. However when calling to schedule, this was not stated to me either.The cost is misleading, you will need to pay for this class, then purchase a box of (overpriced) ammo at the range ($26/50 9mm or $11/50 .22lr) . So the actual cost to complete this course ~$136-$150.I also didn't appreciate hearing the owner voice support of unconstitutional gun laws that have recently been passed in this state.

Instruction was great. Didn’t let us know the range was a 30-40 minute drive from the classroom.Were told the class was 8 hours in total, including range, with working lunch.We left the class room at 4:50. Almost 8 hours. Still had at least a 30 minute drive and then however long the range took, with getting the gun, buying the ammo, loading 30 rounds, getting instructions, shooting target, getting certified.I had an appointment near the classroom at 6pm. Didn’t think I would have any trouble making it, but even if I went to the range I had a 30-40 minute drive back depending on rush hour traffic.So I chose not to miss my appointment as it was important and unavoidable (ie couldn’t change either).So I basically wasted 8 hours of my time and $100 of my money.It would have been nice to know ahead of time that the range was 18 miles south of the class.Other than this, the class was great and Doreen was as well…

Excellent course with a comprehensive program. The class has sufficiently times breaks to make the course easier to sit through. They kept it fun and enjoyable while informative.

I took my original class at Detroit Arms and have taken the renewal class three times as of 9/27/25. I find taking the class in person, you just lear so much more and you have the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification. I've also taken other, highly beneficial and recommended training at Detroit Arms. Do yourself a favor and schedule YOUR class with the best, local trainers around. You will not be sorry.
