The coaches are super supportive and knowledgeable. I have seen them work with everyone from older folks and people with injuries like me, to people who have never done CrossFit and athletes who compete, and everyone gets the same amazing training. Everyone who comes to the classes is so supportive and we all push each other during the workouts to dig deep and go hard. I always recommend folks come try out the free Saturday morning community workouts or do the test week. All CrossFit gyms are expensive, but this is one of the most affordable by far in San Diego. This is also the most intentionally LGBTQ+ friendly gym I have ever been to! Super grateful for this gym and the coaches and I can't wait to see where I'm at another year from now. Less
What an amazing experiences. The coaches are phenomenal and I have seen so much improvement in 2 months. Worth the price. If you're serious about fitness, check this place out.
Awesome community and fantastic coaching! Not to mention a really cool vibe all around, I definitely recommend checking this place out!
Dropped in today and it was simply awesome!! Def recommend if you visit San Diego and want to get a quick work out in.
One of the best CrossFit boxes I’ve ever attended, what a fantastic place. Coaches are friendly, members are welcoming and the programming is great. HAC is a place that fosters an inclusive environment welcoming of all people wherever they are in their fitness journey.

An exceptional gym with amazing people! The team at HAC really care about your progress and personal goals. The programming is top notch. All around 5 STARS!!!
I've nothing but good things to say about HAC, from their coaches and trainers, their programs, their online scheduling, and their professionalism. I was so lucky to find this gym! Don't be intimidated. I see people of all body types and ability levels there.
I’m visiting from out of town and went to two classes here. I had a great experience. The coaches were knowledgeable and helpful and the space was clean. I’d recommend this place.
Visiting San Diego for the week from New York and had an amazing experience. The facility is very clean and organized and the instructors (Carlos and Shaye) were thorough, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Will definitely come back to work out when visiting the area again.
I LOVE this place! Very helpful. It is such an honor to be in the midst of such amazing athletes. Thank you

The programming is a good mix of lifting (weight and Olympic) and cardio, which I especially love so I don’t have to take a day off to do cardio on my own. There is always some extra challenge going on for extracurricular improvement (ie. weekly pull up accessory work, rowing) which is a fun way to feel more involved in the gym. And most importantly the covid precautions they take at this gym make me feel very safe when working out. There are class caps to keep the number of bodies down as well as increased cleaning (plenty of rags and simple green to go around). I especially like the two giant glass garage doors that essentially open one side of the entire gym to open air. Since recently SD moved back into the purple tier, they have moved the classes outside (which is covered and lit) and the staff has not missed a beat— the workouts are still varied and competitive, and everyone is still in high spirits. Overall I really like the culture of the gym and the open communication the gym owner Mike has with his members. Come try out HAC! You won’t regret it! Less

Instructors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and helpful. I have attended the Free Community Boot Camp class on Saturday for a few weeks now and love that they offer a great workout for those like myself who want to work on fitness goals, but don’t have room in the budget. The overall vibe is supportive and welcoming.
Great gym, excellent instructors, very welcoming and good mix of skill levels. They do an exceptional job of adjusting workouts if needed for any physical limitations of each participant. I return every year when I visit San Diego.
Great facility, friendly people, welcoming environment. No better place to sweat and start your day!
2+ years later I'm still here and going strong. The community at Hillcrest Athletic Club is amazing. It’s my second home. The coaches have improved my technique and skills and I’ve made great friends at this box. The staff at HAC has always been welcoming and friendly to athletes, families, dogs, and those walking in to learn more.
I highly recommend HAC. The boot camp classes are all small and allow the trainer to give one on one attention to everyone. I participated in the mandatory introductory lessons and then dove into the regular sessions. All the coaches - there was a different coach each day when I was just getting started, and all were extremely helpful and cognizant of my skill level, and really worked with me on form and technique, ramping me up accordingly. Simply the best decision I ever made for what seemed like 5 trainers for less than the price of one! I’ve never injured myself here and that’s a testament to the level of coaching. And this is more than a gym. More than a community even. New and long-time members are all so open and encouraging. Picking you up when you’re beat down and congratulating all the way thru. These workouts, and warmups, are not at all easy and at the end of the session you walk away accomplished in your journey, and the extra “good job,” fist pump, high five, hug at the end will have you excited for the next. My name is Dusty and I typically work out at 530a. Most recently I am in the 1200p class. I encourage you to join me 💪 Less

I have been to numerous gyms in San Diego and this one is definitely my favorite. Reading the other reviews I was really saddened to see people felt that it’s not welcoming because I’ve seen and felt the complete opposite. The coaches go out of their way to introduce themselves (even if they aren’t the one coaching for the day!) and will remember you the next time you come in. It’s actually blown my mind how good their memory is for recall of names. At the beginning of classes there’s usually an icebreaker, especially if there is someone new. The workouts are definitely for all levels of fitness so no one should ever be intimidated by “crossfit.” The coaches also will offer modifications if you have an injury or to meet your fitness goals—just ask! During the workouts you will get some of the best coaching on form and technique which is huge for injury prevention and something I feel has become a thing of the past in some other gyms. Bonus...the gym hosts social events and happy hours often. So it’s not just about physical fitness, there is a social wellness component too! So if you’re interested I would recommend dropping in to a class, if you don’t get the welcoming vibe, try saying “hi, I’m new here” maybe you’ll learn that everyone in that class is new too or just a shy group (because there’s also not really any cliques—unlike other gyms—so it’s definitely not intentional to not break the ice first). If nothing else, pet the dogs on the dog friendly patio and use the nice brand new bathroom :) Less

As a new member to this box, the athletes have been competitive, friendly and welcoming. The location can't be beat. When I'm forced to run 800m, it might as well be through the heart of Hillcrest.
Great little place to work out! Small personalized class! Highly recommend
Thanks Crossfit Hillcrest for letting me jump in today. Grateful for the welcoming atmosphere, solid coaching cues, and breathy workout, especially when coming from out of town. Best of luck!
I dropped in a couple of times while vacationing with my family and the 7 am class was super welcoming and lots of fun to work out with! Thanks Coach Eric and the rest of the crew!! Great workouts and even better atmosphere!
I dropped in from Texas today to do 16.2. The gym was extremely accommodating and the staff was super friendly. Coach Crystal's teaching skills and ability to push athletes to attempt more than they are capable made this box one to remember. I highly recommend this box for drop ins and for anyone who lives in the area.
Helpful, friendly, welcoming and proud! Love this gym! #Represent
Dropped in to CrossFit Hillcrest and was greeted with friendly members, great coaching, and a professional staff... couldn't ask for anything more. If you're dropping in or live in this area I highly recommend you come check this place out!

I signed up 2 months ago. After my first experience with crossfit in Orange County I was discouraged. After a year I gave it another shot with Crossfit Hillcrest and I am so happy I did. Dropped in a couple of times on a recent trip to San Diego. I found the coaches to be very welcoming and all-around great guys! Thank you for the great workouts!
My girlfriend and I signed up last month. The biggest challenge we had and i am sure we all have is just taking that first step. It's looks intimidating, but let me just say that Crossfit is for everyone not just the fittest people out there. It's looks intimidating, but let me just say that Crossfit is for everyone not just the fittest people out there. The everyday person who is looking to get stronger, get fitter, loose weight and so much more. Why more, because when you join a gym like Crossfit Hillcrest you become family, a member, a team, a Community. Their is something about training and sweating together as individuals as well as a team. This is great place to make friends and become healthier at the same time. The owners and trainers are very friendly and knowledgable. They will help you and guide you along your exercise path. I am so grateful to be a part of this gym and I'm sure anyone else would feel the same way if you just make the decision too. I challenge anyone who is reading this or even thinking about Crossfit - Just Do It! Give it a try... You can only start by trying Less

I was in town for work from Vancouver WA and dropped in for a couple classes. Eric and Mike were great coaches, plus very friendly and welcoming. It was a lot of fun seeing a different style of warm up. Not only did they help me PR my snatch, I learned some great techniques that I will be implementing back home. Look forward to dropping in again next time I'm in town!
1st day at crossfit hillcrest. Awesome place knocked out the fundamentals, can't wait till next class!
Crossfit Hillcrest is beyond gym'ness--it is the perfect combination of community, training, and competition. - Community: it's so nice knowing you'll enjoy seeing people who lift you up if you simply get your butt over there. - Training: I am so impressed with these trainers; they take safety and efficiency to the next level by actively watching your movements to ensure you both avoid injury and... Lastly, I was surprised that weight-bearing exercises could have a strong component of range-of-motion improvement, usually associated with Yoga or Pilates. CrossFit has taken me beyond my normal barriers, even past what I formerly achieved through 5+ years of hot yoga. Enjoy! Less

Love this gym! Everyone is so welcoming. And the trainers are so motivated and awesome! Looking forward to many WOD's to come :)

You know that TV show Cheers “where everyone knows your name®?” That’s how I feel when I come in to this box. You know that TV show Cheers “where everyone knows your name®?” That’s how I feel when I come in to this box. It’s like I forget what the workout of the day (WOD) is because I pretty much consider everybody to be my friend and that I’m stopping by to hang out with them. What really impresses me, though, is the professionalism of the trainers. I have my bad days—and I’m sure they do too—but they always seem to do their best to give you attention & lifting tips (even when you’re too afraid to ask). And they’re open to suggestions. Really. They change things up so I don’t get bored like when they added yoga or varied their music playlists! And I secretly pretend not to like it if they call me out when they know that I’m being lazy & not working up to my potential. It’s inspiring that they don’t focus on my negatives, but rather encourage me to work on my weaknesses. Their coaching makes me feel like I can really do the exercises I would never do in the regular gym by myself because no one had taught me before. “Make sure to keep that arch on your back,” they’d say. Or “split the repetitions so that you don’t waste too much time and energy.” Or “please clean the floor, your sweat is making the others slip & fall.” Things like that…Ooh! And my favorite part is that I feel like I’m independently working towards my own progress. Except I’m inclined to try new things now because I know I’m being guided by those who have proven their fitness and can lead by example. What’s cool too is that depending on what membership you get, you can go as many times as you want as long as you sign up and there’s room in that class! But I don’t do that often because after one session I’m pretty much heaving on the floor, with the workout completely fresh in my head. And then I’m all like, “Oh yeah. Now I remember.” Less
Great, friendly instructors who know how to teach and break down the movements. The atmosphere is encouraging and motivating. I love this place!
