I built my home with Abode New Homes in 2021. Unfortunately the overall experience was disappointing. While the sales process and communication early on were reasonable, the quality of workmanship and follow-through during and after construction was not.An independent defects inspection after handover identified numerous quality issues, from cracking around eaves and internal walls, rough paintwork, and cement splatter on window frames, to doors that didn’t close properly because a wall wasn't straight.Beyond the cosmetic issues, there were several more serious mistakes:• Abode installed a non-weatherproof door to the laundry, despite previously advising that a regular external door would not be suitable because of direct contact from rain.• They installed the wrong drain grates and mounted a shower screen in the wrong orientation.• The outdoor range hood wasn’t installed at all. It sat onsite for months before finally being fitted.• They closed the new roller door onto a still-wet driveway, which caused the seal to stick and tear, leaving rubber stuck to the concrete and the seal needing to be replaced.• They added skirting inside the wardrobe even though it wasn’t on the plans. This had to be removed later, revealing that the floor tiles hadn’t been laid all the way to the wall.• They charged both me and my neighbour full price for our shared fence, even though the cost should clearly have been split as they built with abode at the same time. Both Abode and my neighbour would not have picked this up if I didn’t raise it with them.• Despite being aware of the planned pool location, they positioned the outdoor air-conditioning unit less than 60cm from the pool, which is understandably not to the Australian Standard 1.25m. This cost us over $3000 to rectify.While individual issues like these might be manageable, the combination of them and the time and effort required to get basic rectifications completed made the process stressful and frustrating. It often felt like quality control and supervision were lacking, with a focus on meeting deadlines, rather than delivering a complete and properly finished home. I acknowledge that almost all of the 33 google reviews are positive, but I thought it important to share our experience with Abode. It makes me feel like I was really unlucky.I genuinely hope Abode New Homes takes feedback like this on board and invests more care in their build quality and final inspections. Building a home should be exciting, not an exhausting process of chasing up mistakes that should never have happened.
