I was treating my mom out for drinks and she suggested we come here and I'm glade she did I went to another restaurant earlier and wasn't happy but I came here and was very satisfied food was on point service on point and drinks was amazing

I hurried and told my husband. He went to talk to a manager and they basically said I was lying that I had the door locked. El Metate - Hixson is a good Mexican restaurant. We had Chicken Fajita Nachos and Chichen Chimachanga with chips and salsa. It was not crowded. Food came to the table quickly, and plates were hot.

I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed with the service or food. Fajitas are delicious! Try the Churros Con Nieve for dessert. The churros are filled with caramel and come with a big scoop of ice cream! This place is always clean, too.
Everything about El Metate is amazing- from the food, the staff, and cleanliness. I haven’t had a dish there I haven’t loved and I haven’t had service there that wasn’t amazing. It is my favorite spot!
Our family loves El Metate. The kids always enjoy their food and when it’s date night we always enjoy the atmosphere and margaritas. The passion margarita is the best ever!!!!! Plenty of meatless options with tons of flavor.

We love our El Metate in Hixson. We try to go once a week and ask to sit in Lalo's section. He's our favorite server. We always start with the delicious frozen margaritas and tortilla chips and up the heat with the Salsa Mexicana. We have never been disappointed with our meals. My current favorite is the birria nachos, and my husband usually gets tacos or fajitas. It's all good!

The fish tacos were very fishy smelling like the fish might have gone off? Anyway they took it back and my husband ordered beef tacos. It was disappointing. My taco shell for my taco salad looked overcooked or overheated whatever they do. And I don't understand why they use that type of taco shell and not the taco bowl which I prefer. To say we would eat there again ? ... Maybe.

Food here just isn't near as good as the other El Metate we go to. We always get chile poblanos, and the grilled chicken was burned up, and the peppers didn't have any cheese in them.
Don't understand the high reviews for this place. Went for a late lunch, and the food was below average. My combination plate came out lukewarm, to almost cold. The meal my wife had lacked flavor, and both meals were very bland. The complimentary chips were good, but the salsa was thin and bland. Service was good.

I ordered an appetizer, and was brought and charged for an entree. They corrected the mistake and fixed my receipt, but not without me having to argue with them for several minutes. If they hadn't have tried to convince me that I was wrong, I would have given 4 stars.
My food came out cold and I have had better enchiladas with tomatillo sauce, not very good or fresh. My husbands food was hot, but his rice was cold. I told them it was not hot and they took it back, brought it back to me a little hotter than before. I didn’t want to send it back again. So I barely ate it and left.

Went for their Birria Tacos, decent but nothing spectacular. Service was ok, had to ask for refills several times and had to locate our waiter to pay. They were busy and seemed overwhelmed so we will try again next time we are in the area.
Been wanting to stop in here for a week now and glad I finally did. Super courteous staff and the horchata hit the spot on a hot day. Ordered the lunch special burrito real with el pastor and it's exactly what I expected. Beans were good and the fresh cojita on top made it complete. I definitely will be coming back here again
El Metate is one of my favorite restaurants. The service is terrific and the food is even better. Highly recommended. If someone asked me what my favorite restaurants in the area are I wouldn't need to think. They're El Metate, Off The Grill with the great Chef Q and Lakeshore Grill.

First time coming here.. Food was good service wasn't the best. We was a group of 10. But out waiter hardly came around unless we flagged down or our food was ready. He was nice but wasn't very present but was saw he was with his other table.

First off I love Mexican food. So this review might be a little biased. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars, because the carnitas tacos are the best I've ever had. I grew up in So Cal so I know Mexican food. I've even had Mexican food south of the boarder, and I can tell now Metate has the best carnitas style tacos.

It’s Sunday, 9 of us, and obviously very busy. We knew we would have to wait. We waited 45 minutes and watched 2 large groups that came in after us get seated before us. The young hostess was obviously flustered by the large crowds of people.

Absolutely delicious food for surprisingly low prices! You get a lot of food for each dish too. The staff is very friendly and the environment is great! This is probably my favorite restaurant in Hixson right now.

What a nice Mexican restaurant! We went to for a friend's going away party. The staff was super friendly and put us in a section by the bar. We had a few appetizer. The salsa was very fresh and great cheese dip. I had the grande steak quesadilla and it was AWESOME! The margaritas were great too!

It's been a while since I been to a good mexican restaurant. The meat was cooked perfectly and the produce was all fresh. Our server kept us topped off on drinks and chips. I got the burrito special and loved every bit of it.

El Metate is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chattanooga. Their Sunday fajita special is a weekend tradition for my husband and I. I have ordered many different items off of their menu and have never been disappointed, the service is great as well.

This is some pretty good Hispanic food coupled by some pretty good service. There really isn't anything I could complain about. Even the bathroom was clean which you don't always find to be the case. Thank for a delicious meal!

Today's service was really really off. Usually they are in top of things. Slow service, 20 minutes to order, forgot half our order and didn't even notice, broken glass!!!! Not top notch today for sure.
The food was very tasty. I liked the spices they used it wasn't bland like many us/mexican restaurants. The bathrooms were clean. The wait time wasn't bad when though it was busy. The waitress only paid attention to the man at the table. She asked him about his food, and offered him drink refills. It was my brother, so I wasn't jealous. I think women on dates might get annoyed by this though.

Weellll, let's start off with first impressions, we get there at 9 o'clock on a Saturday night, and stood up at the hostess booth for just about a minute or so. The place wasn't that crowded, so we expected someone to be along shortly. A minute or so later we were greeted by a server, who came up and asked how many to which we replied that we had "3" in our party and would like to sit on the patio, if possible . Apparently, this did not make the server happy bc there was not really a verbal response after that, just her trying to darken our table assignment on the board, while the hostess, who had just walked up was talking to her in a language other than English. The conversation seemed more terse than pleasant, and the server seemed less happy that we were there and it felt more like irritation and frustration, than accommodation. We were then brought to a table outside, and she took our drink orders and a short time later they were brought out to us with our chips and salsa. A few minutes later a new server came out and after a few requests for more time with the menu, which he was very accommodating and understanding, we placed our orders. My girlfriend ordered the vegetarian chimichanga platter, her 13 yr old son ordered the taco salad with beef and no tomato or guacamole, and I ordered the combination #11, which consisted of a beef taco, beef burrito and a beef enchilada. It took a little while to get our food, as I'm sure they were busy, as there was a large group in the bar area. When we finally received our food, my burrito and enchilada were quite thin and were covered in some kind of tomato sauce, my gf's chimichanga was overly stuffed with onions and spinach, but not so much with the other veggies and her son's taco salad, tasted so bad that he only ate half of it, which he covered in salsa and cholula sauce, to make the awful taste of the beef seem edible, but didn't work. The beef in both of our meals tasted bland and possibly microwaved. I didn't say anything hoping it was just mine and salsaed and hot sauced the thing until it was gone, bc I learned a long time ago that you don't send food back in a restaurant. When the server came back and inquired about the food, I told him that the best thing about it were the chips and salsa and then asked for my check. The best surprise you can provide is no unpleasant surprises, but you failed. Great customer service fix things, but your female server didn't attempt to fix things, or even care. You should teach your servers that it's important to remember that a fundamental part of good customer service is getting me back to where I was before. Consistently excellent Mexican food in Hixson. And the service is also so. Great place to eat, especially groups. They have a separate side for it.
My wife and I have eaten here at least once a month since it opened several years ago. They have wonderful food and many of the same employees since day 1. HIGHLY recommend El Matate if you want a step up a tier from your usual, monotonous Tex-Mex menu
We have never experienced any problems at any of their locations. We've found that if you're kind to the wait staff,they will reciprocate.
El Matate Hixson is my absolute favorite Mexican Restaurant in the area hands down!!! Great food, great service, friendly staff!!!

Eat here at least once or twice a month with colleagues. It's a clean Mexican restaurant offering attractive lunch specials that include the drink. Fajita day is absolutely the bees knees. I definitely recommend it and recommend trying some of their speciality salsas as well.

I got the attention of the waitress to ask her why a table seated after me had her their food before me. She said "just one min" and walked away. Five mins later she nreturned withoput my food at which time i asked for a manager. She walked away and after waiting another 10 mins I finally walked out. This place is garbage and and the service is as bad as you can get. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP!!!!! Less
My favorite Mexican restaurant. Ingredients are delicious and im hopelessly addicted to their tomatillo sauce (goes with everything). Great salsa and fresh chips and the portions are excellent for the price. The staff is always courteous and the food comes quickly every time! A+
The lunch menu is very well priced. They have an extremely friendly wait staff. It's a little cool at times (air temp) but otherwise it's a great place to eat.

Wonderful, familiar atmosphere; all Hispanic, but well learned in English, and incredibly friendly. The food is delicious, especially the beans and the Poyo con Queso. Good prices, too. All around, an excellent restaurant.
