Most people join a fitness facility for equipment and in some cases that may include workout programming and an instructor/coach. First, Steve's programming is hands down the best you can get. And I've heard this from countless people who have had experience in a variety of other crossfit gyms. Second, the coaching is top notch. Not only are the coaches knowledgeable and attentive but you're goals are their goals. They wholeheartedly care about every person in that facility. And they know exactly how to individualize programming so it is accessible for any individual that walks through the doors regardless of age, ability or limitation. But the best part of the deal is what you don't know you're even getting when you start. The community! A group of people who are going to support you through your struggles and your successes. Good days & bad. Who greet you with welcoming hellos and depart with "see you tomorrows!" (even when the workout is tough and makes you questions if you'll come back haha). Strength, Courage, Confidence! CrossFit Ironspider has helped me grow so much! As a woman in her mid fifties (who is also not a natural athlete) I am beyond impressed with the coaches in meeting me where I’m at and making adaptations for various injuries! The community is incredible! I’m fitter and healthier now than in my 30’s!

What can I say about this place. It's the only place I like to go to. I love everything about this place. The workouts, the coaches, the other crossfitters, the whole atmosphere in general is great. I have been cross fitting since 2014 and I joined Iron Spider about 2 years ago when my work location changed and I couldn't get to my old gym easily and I will say it is the best cross fit gym I have ever worked out in. The facility is huge, with lots of equipment. Never short of anything, even during a busy workout. They can actually run laps inside, which is great in the winter. If you like working out or stretching on astroturf, they have that as well as the usual weight lifting mats. The restrooms are clean and spacious. But the most important part of a crossfit gym is the staff, and Steve, Mar, Dennis, Brandy, Jenn, and all the others are top notch. I thought I pretty much knew how to do things, but I am alway given great pointers and I know I have improved since joining due to the great coaching. The workouts are absolutely amazing and not just the standard WODs you see at most gyms; they start with a kill to work on, and then there is a WOD which is organized by how they affect your metabolism and by what type of stimulus is delivered. This is really effective and must take a lot of work to create. I have also met some great new friends here as this gym is very social and they frequently do barbecues, holiday parties, and have an annual summer harbor cruise as well as sponsor competitions. No matter if you are a fire-breathing competitor or just want a good workout after doing your day job, you can get what you need here. Dr. Steven Dion does all the programming for the week so you know its built with intention and not just thrown randomly together. There is also plenty of room for you to pop in and do a workout on your own most of the time if you want to do your own programming or can't make the workout. A great perk of the gym is if you are a member, you can do all of their road races for free! So if you also dabble in running this is a fantastic gym for you. CrossFit Iron Spider has been a game changer for me on so many levels. The husband and wife team who own the facility, Brandi and Steve, are simply incredible and cultivate the most supportive and motivating community. I have learned so much from the coaches, and pushed myself to new and unexpected places with their guidance and deep knowledge. I have also been able to stay extremely active through a few issues because of the support I received with great modifications that keep me sweating and growing stronger. The last year and a half has been very challenging for many - but being able to go to CrossFit Iron Spider during these difficult moments of the pandemic is what kept me sane, especially in the early days. Steve and Brandi have taken extreme care around this, putting processes in place to ensure the safety of the community - generously spaced out boxes, online sign-ups and reduced class sizes, sanitized floors between classes, all personal equipment unshared and sanitized after each use. It’s been so reassuring to have these extra layers of precaution so members can feel comfortable to work out, and not feel concerns about COVID. And on the member front, it’s a wonderful mix of athletes of all different abilities and ages. Everyone cheers each other on, and helps each other push the limits to new heights. Whether you are a extreme beginner, a steady regular, a seasoned Cross-fitter or somewhere in between, you will get a great workout that is suited to your level. I started working out at this CrossFit gym back in December of 2017 and its been an awesome experience. I did not know what to expect and knew nothing about weight lifting when I started working out at Iron Spider, but the coaches/fellow members made me feel comfortable and right at home when I started. If you don't feel like doing CrossFit everyday, they also have great boot camps and CrossFit Engine workouts as well as a few other programs. I run a lot of races over the year, and the Tuesday/Thursday morning Engine workouts are a great place to get in some speed/hill work as well as mixing in some core strengthening workouts. I started here about a month and a half ago. I look forward to cross fit classes every day, working with the coaches, and pushing myself. I love the feeling i get after a workout and the amazing support from both coaches and members. I'm always pushed to do my best! Would definitely recommend this!

Ironspider is a great gym with coaches that know their stuff. Never felt pressure to go beyond what my body was capable of, and there is a great support system of athletes. Had I not moved out of the state, I would still be attending.

In the past 8 years of my time in Crossfit, I've lived the life of a Nomad. I've been a member to more boxes I can remember, coached a few athletes, and met so many awesome people in my journey. I moved into Salem because of work and had to find a box to stuff myself in. If you want to get my bottom line, then skip my review to the last paragraph. Otherwise I'll break things down to the following: Coaching, Programing, Facility, Climate. These are the facets that make up a Crossfit gym. Coaching and staff: The coaching staff is stellar, they are always watching and ensuring that members are safe, extremely knowledgeable, provide guidance to improve, they are encouraging, and concerned for the well being of the members. This is one of the few, boxes I've ever been to that will genuinely ask you how you're feeling, and not in a motherly way. More of a friendly way making sure that your comfortable with the movements and Wods. The coaching staff is the foundation of any Crossfit gym and I say that Crossfit Iron Spider is resting on solid bedrock!. Programing: This is the meat and potatoes that develop the athlete. Some boxes will lean towards movements like Olympic lifting and some will lean towards gymnastics or strength. The core of their programing it seems to me is primarily balanced the way it should be. Daily Wods involve Strength and Metcon that will challenge you. There is plenty of variety and sometimes off the wall stuff that will keep you on your toes. Facility: The gym is big with ample room and there's a lot of great qualities about it. First everyone wants to know what the bathrooms are like. Well, this is one of the few gyms I've been to that has showers! Three of them to be exact! The men's bathroom (I haven't been to the ladies locker room sorry) has plenty of room to move around complete with two toilet stalls and one urinal. Now on the the equipment. They use a Rogue Infinity rig and have several Oly stations for those of you what want a solid floor to work on. This is also one of the first gyms I've been to where all the rowers actually work! Good on them maintaining their ergos! I've haven't had to share my equipment or break down the Wods in heats just yet so there's plenty of toys to go around for everyone. The only thing that bothers me about the facility is the entrance of the facility. When there's a run involved in a Wod the entrance/egress is a bottleneck and has a case of metal stairs. a maximum of 2 people can pass through the door so it can be a challenge at times. Last of all parking, yes it can be a major concern but not here. Plenty of parking for all. Right outside the door! Climate: Every Crossfit gym has a pulse, and Crossfit Iron Spider is no exception. It's friendly here and everyone I've met here is very supportive. There is also a collection of awesome athletes so if you're looking for some friendly competition, you'll find it here. If you're curious about Crossfit and want to give it a try, or if you're a veteran athlete, and you want to be challenged then look no further. If you live in Salem or in the surrounding towns, it's a no brainer. You wont be disappointment and it may help change your life. Crossfit Iron Spider is one of the best gyms I've been to! Less

I stopped by as a drop-in yesterday. I live in Portsmouth, NH but this box is close to some important people in my life. Gianni walked me through a workout during open gym which was great! I was prepared to work out by myself just dropping in, but Gianni clearly wanted to be helpful, connected, and motivating!
