I highly recommend Kuk Sool Won of Oak Hill. My daughter has been attending for over two years so far and it has been a wonderful experience. She has progressed from a white belt to earning her brown belt, has learned so much, and had so much fun! The owners and instructor team here are very good with helping children develop the many skills in KSW martial arts, are patient, encouraging, and hold them to an appropriate standard to help them grow. We know she is in good hands during classes and training. The school has the feeling of being a big family. We enjoy going as a team to the annual tournament and cheering each other on, that is another great part of participating in KSW. Less

I recently decided I wanted to fulfill a longtime interest and learn martial arts. Once I made the decision I was left with the harrowing task of deciding which dojo I wanted to entrust my body to. While researching all the various local dojos I came across Kuk Sool Won, and began to do extensive research on the school and Korean martial arts as a whole. The website had tons of great info about the school and the system and I was intrigued, but I noticed the site did not mention belt testing fees, which I had only recently learned about during my research on dojos. So I decided to call the location to get the information that way I could have all the relevant information I, as a potential paying customer, would need. The phone was answered by the school owner, who I was already familiar with since I had spent so much time on their website the last couple of days. When I informed Brenda I was calling to inquire if the dojo had belt testing fees, and instead of a direct answer I was met with a cold… “umm who are you?” I informed Brenda that I was a local who has decided to take up martial arts and I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of dojos and I’m just calling to see if there’s any testing fees for belt exams, because that would help me in deciding where I want to invest my time and money. When I informed the school owner of this, she essentially informed me that she isn’t going to go into the fees regarding belt exams with just anybody. I advise all potential customers to do your due diligence to avoid hidden fees and predatory business practices like this. It’s unfortunate that this came from the school owner, however if this is the decorum and attitude of the dojo owner, then I do not want to learn anything from her, and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth for the whole system. Very unfortunate. Less

Kuk Sool Wan Oak Hill is not only a place to learn, commit, and begin your martial arts journey; it's a community of incredibly talented instructors and dedicated students. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful, they want you to be successful and to find joy in all the elements of Kuk Sool. When I joined I didn't know much about Kuk Sool, what I know now is that it's steeped in tradition, discipline and respect for martial arts. It has enriched my life and I highly recommend visiting the dojang to begin your journey. Trust me, you'll love the energy!! Less

My daughter started Kuk Sool Won of Oak Hill Martial Arts in August and loves it. The instructors are kind, patient and fun-loving. We have seen a growth in her maturity and confidence in just a short amount of time. Leanna participated in the annual tournament last week and was nervous before it started (tears and all). We reassured her that tournament is meant to be fun and if anything, go support your friends and show up to be their partner, even if you don’t end up competing. Seeing all her friends be there encouraged her and she was ready to go! She came home with a few medals but most of all learned a lesson in positive self-talk. I asked her how she was able to calm herself when she felt nervous while waiting to be called, she said: “My brain said, Calm down, Leanna. Calm down, Leanna. And I listened to my brain.” Less
