One thing I really appreciated was that this is a small business, so we went out in a small group instead of being part of a big crowd. It made the experience feel more personal and relaxed. Chris provided all the snorkeling gear, including anti-fog spray, and even gave us waterproof bags to use. He also brought cold water and Maui Gold pineapple, which was chilled and probably the best pineapple I’ve ever had. When it came to snorkeling, we saw multiple sea turtles and enjoyed exploring the area. Chris was knowledgeable and shared stories about Hawaii that made the experience more interesting. Since this was our first time snorkeling, he guided us really well, making sure we felt comfortable and safe throughout. Overall, it was a memorable day and a good introduction to snorkeling. Snorkeling with Chris was a great experience! All equipment was prepared and staged at our arrival time and no time was wasted in getting onto the ocean after a general review of kayaking tips as this was our first experience with ocean kayaking. We had previously snorkeled years ago off Cozumel, O'ahu and the Big Island with large groups, and it was much nicer experience as a small group as there were no delays in getting people sorted out for launch, as well as for getting into the water at the snorkel site. Chris provided a lot of information about Hawaii, language and recommendations for hiking and restaurants while we paddled along to the first viewing site. At the snorkel site, we spent a good deal of time in the water, being bumped by multiple turtles and viewing Moorish Idols, various butterfly fish, white spotted puffers, and what appeared to be a group of half beak or needle fish. We highly recommend engaging Chris and Tropical Guides & Outfitters for an entertaining and informative activity - you will pay less and have much more time in the water than with a large boat tour. We were treated to an unforgettable and moving interaction with these gentle giants that I've never before experienced. The pics just can't convey how close they really came to us. When you're quite literally eye to eye with these amazing creatures it's at the same time incredibly exciting and humbling. Throughout the 3 hour paddle we floated alongside several mom & baby pairs that approached us, observing their interaction with each other...and us. (They didn't appear bothered by our presence in the least!) The babies were always curious and sought us out -- some moms seemed more comfortable and hovered nearby keeping an eye on their "little" ones and some moms abruptly inserted themselves in between to warn off the babies. Another first for me: When two males were very close to us their songs were so resonant we could actually hear them above the water! Then as we were paddling back to shore our last visiting Mom & baby passed right beneath our kayaks! They were clearly visible for some time and just hovered beneath us. One of my fellow paddlers had a go pro filming and I'm keeping fingers crossed she caught them on video and I get to see it. But even if not I have those incredible images in my mind and emotions in my heart and am so grateful! Less

Tropical Guides was the only group we found who offered this. Having the personalized attention was great, especially since we had a couple in our family who had never snorkeled before. As we departed and returned from our excursion, we paddled past several other tour groups with upwards of 10 customers to one guide, and it looked like a total zoo. The tour itself was amazing, as we paddled well up the coastline experiencing the beauty of Maui along with a sea turtle or two along the way. Chris did a great job acclimating everyone in our group t the kayaks and snorkeling and was very knowledgeable about the area, as well as the marine wildlife. Chris took us out for a 4 hour whale watch (adventure) and snorkeling. He is a very knowledgeable guide and the whale watching experience was one of a kind - we were able to hear and see (within 3 feet of our Kayak) the whales. I was in awe of how amazing these creatures are and felt honored to watch such a beautiful display of nature. Then the snorkeling trip- he took us to an area with a wonderful array of fish and coral. I felt like I got “white glove” treatment the whole time. Truly amazing! We were on a 2 man kayak and Chris guided us on his kayak. He had everything prepared: water, snacks, snorkel gear and even a professional waterproof camera. Which allowed us to experience everything without worrying about having to take pictures. We had a great day. John took us out, 2 double kayaks and gave us some beautiful history. We had the tremendous honour of watching a mama and baby whale swim just a few feet from us.
