The meal was great, the server sucks absolutely no personality and never smiles he was barely attentive to us 3 adults 2 children with one celebrating her birthday as she turned 4, no kiddy birthday anything from here but the food was good.

Our waiter was very friendly and polite. All of our food was hot and delicious. Although the tamales were a little spicy 🔥. The Special Burrito was great I would highly recommend it. Their frozen margaritas are delicious and really hit the spot. The chips were thin and crispy. Salsa was a little runny but the flavor was spot on. Definitely our new favorite.

First time here. Had the Cheese Steak Tacos with rice and they were awesome! Began with a basket of chips and salsa and it was good. All that with a coke was $17,50. I liked it and will return.

We were driving through after a concert at Cumberland Caverns and found this great restaurant. I enjoyed a traditional bowl while my husband had a mixed fajita salad. We both loved the food! Service was great as well. We never ran out of water, chips or salsa. This is a couple of hours from home, but when we are in the area, we plan to stop for a meal.

Glad we finally made it here. Everything was great and glad to see some authentic options on menu however this location caters more to the American Tex Mex styled palate. I would definitely recommend this place but prefer their sister restaurant La Rancherita for their authentic options.

I've been coming here for years and El Metate remains as the BEST food establishment in this town. I've never had cold food or unfriendly service, and I certainly can't say the same about other restaurants in the area. This is a business that actually cares about you. Dine here regularly but not often. Food is flavorful but usually chicken and steak are over cooked, a bit tough. Still tasty. I keep coming back. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. Bathroom is clean. Chips and salsa will fill you up before your food comes. In our rural area it's the best you can get. Leave the fast food drive through alone!

First time here and had a good experience. Fast, friendly service and lunch specials are priced right. Food was hot and fresh. Only thing we didn't like was the chips and salsa. Chips were store bought and salsa was below average. But the food makes up for the chips and salsa. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good Mexican meal.

Fast and friendly service, and really good food. Wait times for even just picking up take-out can be a little long on busy nights, but the food is worth it. My husband is very picky and wants his burrito done in a special way, they're always happy to oblige and they always get it right. This is your local mexican hangout... but it is absolutely delicious. Much larger inside than it looks. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and excellent traditional as well as tex-mex offerings.
Dunlap has seen a lot of Mexican Resataurants come and go, but El Metate has been here through it all. Theres a good reason for that!!!!!

Waiter was very good. Ordered fajita jalisco click and Shrimp. Shrimp had great taste and not over cooked. No taste to chicken, I had to add salt. Fast service. Very little lettuce tomato and sour cream.

El Metate always has good food. Our server was always one step ahead with bringing drinks. She was so jovial and had a beautiful attitude that was infectious. Her cheerful mood was so welcomed because servers don't seem to love their jobs these days.

We stop here whenever we've been hiking in the area. They have the absolute best food! Their steak fajitas are loaded with meat and it's really flavorful. We also get nice little chicken tacos to go for our pups (they hike too)! Always really friendly and a big menu with some unique items. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

I’m from Texas, so i know good mexican food and i kid you not- this food come out of a can. It was nasty and bland. I had to add hot sauce to almost everything. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. My dog wouldn’t even eat the leftovers

Too expensive for what you get. El meson chattanooga has way bigger portions for less money. For 37 dollars you would think we get leftovers but NO. I will limit my visits here.

Good authentic Mexican food in a pleasant atmosphere.
The food here is your basic ameri-mex, with a few choices that are not on a traditional ameri mex menu. Service was fast and polite, and the crowds are mostly locals which can be entertaining in itself. They also have fairly good drink selections, so if the food is not your cup of tea, you can always be the drunk hanging out in the corner booth.

Over-priced. Food was cold. Cheese had already turned hard on the nachos. Someone had splattered something red across the nachos. 3 other plates had hair in the food including the salsa. Just an unpleasant $50 experience and when we informed the staff, they just said "ok". Most patrons seem to go here for drinks.

It gets very busy sometimes, so the wait can be long, but otherwise, the food is always good, it's not too expensive, and they have margaritas, so what's not to like?

We were traveling through and saw this place, and we are so happy we did! The staff was excellent and the food was so good we were tempted to lick our plates in public! It's a nice atmosphere with tasy beer, too. The music and decor are authentic and it all adds up to a perfect dinner.
Service is quick, food is ALWAYS great, and servers are friendly and very attentive! They're usually busiest on Friday nights and Sundays, but do a great job of managing seating so the waits are typically not very long.
The food is always served fresh. The free home made chips and salsa are wonderful. They also have amazing guacamole. If you do not care for certain foods that come in your dish, or have any allergies they will make it the way you like. Plenty of choices for vegetarians as well. Always fast and friendly service.
