Our 16 year old gas water heater started to leak. Vaillancourt installed a new one on short notice in a very efficient manner. Besides connecting the plumbing, they were able to correct some faulty gas lines of which we were not aware. They left the area very clean and the water was only shut off for a few hours. I particularly appreciate that he pre-emptively replaced the cold water line leading to the kitchen sink while he was there without me needing to ask. It was as old as the hot water line that ruptured and suffered from the same design flaw, so it was likely to break soon. That replacement cost me only $15 in extra parts but likely spared me hundreds of dollars in future expenses. The only frustration I had was with the payment. After over ten minutes of trying, the mobile device failed to process a credit card payment. We ultimately resorted to an e-transfer. The e-transfer was relatively painless but wasn't my preferred payment method. The final cost including; labour, parts and taxes, was $320. A little high, as they charged a premium for the work due to it being a Sunday morning. Less

The only way we could stop the toilet from running was to shut off the main water valve for the house...either no water anywhere or toilet constantly running. I'd also like to mention Brian who came out to inspect the main water line as we were considering replacing it. He confirmed it was copper and not galvanized steel so we are good for a while but will definitely use Vaillancourt in the future should we decide to upgrade to a larger copper line to improve the water pressure. The scheduling process also made it easy for us to get the repair completed. They coordinated with the Durham Works Department to have the water main shut off to facilitate the work. The plumber was a pleasure to deal with, was on time, and the service was fantastic. He went back to search his van for 15 minutes, then came back and said that he doesn't have that particular valve so he'll have to go to the store to get it. Half an hour later, he came back and said that this was a special type of mixing valve that they don't normally carry on them! So I ended up paying for 55 minutes extra... mind you that's not like $45 extra, it's $120 + tax EXTRA!! I was also only informed of the prices ($160 for the first hour, $120 per hour after) after he showed up which I find extremely shady. I figured, "it was a small dribbling leak, it'll be okay. I'll just close the supply down afterwards to the spigot". It was like the torrential rains in Cambodia. Turns out over winter, as the pipe had a sharp bend it in - had cracked the pipe a further 2 to 3 inches. The splish splash happy pad day quickly came to a close. The dog stayed inside, miserable because of the weather. I had called another big box plumbing company when I discovered the leak in 2021. No names will be named. I was advised it would cost a prohibitive $1300 to repair. They said the wall would have to be cut out. The piping redone etc. Given the cost, I decided to not bother and deferred the repair. I simply shut down the water supply to the backyard. Today Trevor comes in to visit. I'm working so I let him in. I show him the issue. Within 30 minutes the jobbie is sorted out at less than 6 times the cost. And because he's brilliant. He got rid of the bend in the pipe which is just a weak point where cracks can happen. I am over the moon. We tested it out immediately. Yes. With the splish splash happy pad. And my dog is worn out from the fun he had. Thank you Vaillancount. Support local everyone. Seriously.
