I hired Empire Roofing to reroof my house and garage. First of all, they were the only company (I called 5 total) that actually called me back. They were quick to schedule an inspection and after it was determined there was hail damage, they worked with my insurance company flawlessly. Material delivery was prompt and they scheduled to start the project the very next day. The team then showed up at 7am and went to work. AND I MEAN WORK! The entire project (house and garage) was completed in less than 6 hours - including: set up, tear off (2 layers of shingles), roofing, and clean up. I received MANY comments from neighbors that were as shocked as I was at how fast they completed the project. After they completed the project they did a final inspection with a drone to take pictures. After we finally had some rain, I called them to inquire about some water that was missing the gutters completely due to the gables on the roof. They were able to refer to the high quality pictures they took to quickly realize the previous roof had rain diverters installed. Empire quickly came back out to install additional material (rain diverters) to solve the problem. Everyone was knowledgeable, professional, and prompt from start to finish. The entire team was friendly and very easy to work with. This project was one of the least stressful experiences, all thanks to Empire Roofing. Thank you - Michael, Dean, and Geoff!!! By 5:30 p.m. the crew was pulling away, siding intact, roofs complete and no evidence left in the yard to suggest mountains of old shingles had come off the roofs. Plus when the solar crew wrapped another job early, even the final inspection had been completed and the dumpster had been pulled so they could start their work several days earlier than anticipated. After a severe storm ripped through the area, causing major damage to the roof of our home, I reached out to several local roofing companies. Of the five I contacted, Empire Roofing was one of the first to show up. Michael Nelson, one of the three brothers who own this company, arrived shortly after that. His review was returned to me within the week. This was all new to us so Michael took time to explain what to expect. Only one other of the five companies provided a review which was rejected by our insurance company. We hired them based on their qualifications.If you've never had to file an insurance claim, it can be pretty intimidating. Geoffrey Nelson, Michael's older brother & accountant for Empire, explained the details of filing a claim. He also reached out to our insurance company and worked closely with them on the financial side, something I could not have done by myself. The roofing crew of six men showed up shortly after that and completed the work within a day. I was amazed and pleased with the crew's level of knowledge and professional attitude. I never expected to have this job done within that time frame. A couple days after completion, Dean Nelson, their older brother showed up to inspect the work. This was our first time filing such a claim and Mike was an excellent guide and consultant. He was very professional, prompt and courteous in all of his communication. The insurance adjuster who was assigned to our case and who deals with a number of contractors even commented on how it was a pleasure to work with Mike, that he was very straightforward and honest. The process with insurance took some time, about 6 months. There were a few hiccups which caused delays. With each step, Mike was diligent and persistent in making sure the process continued to move forward, staying in close communication with us the entire time. When the day finally came to replace both our house and garage roof, we were impressed with how speedy and thorough the crew members were, including with clean up. Empire made it happen. They worked with me through it all. I needed a second shingle sample for insurance because they lost the first. One call is all it took. Empire had it pulled same day and even hand delivered it to my agent. I couldn’t leave work to look at material samples, they delivered them to me. Needed the job to be scheduled several days sooner than it was originally was because the mortgage underwriters changed the required completion date. Sure thing, they did it. I needed the dumpster to be removed asap so we could move furniture, it was gone within an hour. I could go on and on about all they ways they made my life, this claim and home sale easier. Everything that was thrown at them they handled like pros. On top of the beyond exceptional customer service, the roof looks beautiful. I didn’t find a scrap of missed waste either. I called Empire Roofing about 4 weeks ago to get an estimate. Someone came out with a drone and took some pictures of my garage roof that I was looking to get done. I then emailed my insurance information to this company and was told I would get emailed back the estimate and a plan for the roof replacement. Communication was little to none. I had to call every 2-3 days to ask about when I was going to receive this information in my email. After 4 weeks of waiting was told they couldn't approve to do the job due to a busy schedule. This is something I believe a company should be aware of to inform a customer right away. Rather then sending someone out to take pictures of a project and have them wait 4 weeks to tell them no. I could have gotten the ball rolling on contacting other contractors in the mean time. Getting closer to the winter months so this makes it extremely frustrating on trying to get a roof done in time before snow falls. Less

Accept…..🤣😂🤣😂 for the one white long paper from the protective covering that got beyond tangled up high in a tall tree when the winds really picked up here! Best unplanned TP job ever! 😂🤣 It will eventually blow off! It was recommended by a few friends to get or borrow a rolling magnet to go around after for there will be some lost nails. I did borrow one and 1 1/2 hours walking around the whole area I had a handful by time I was done. I actually expected way more then that honestly so they did a great job! Marlin's extremely thorough inspection revealed significant wind damage to my home and garage roofs. There was one spot where the shingles and underlying roofing felt were torn away exposing the plywood. Marlin said he would send someone out immediately to put a temporary patch on that location before I suffered water infiltartion. He did this at no charge even before I had committed to Empire as my contractor. In the end Empire did the work. The crew that came out worked incredibly hard, stripping and replacing both roofs in LESS THAN TWO DAYS! The clean up was exemplary as well. I would highly recommend Empire roofing. The insurance company had attempted to establish services with several companies not even calling us back, but then Empire Roofing came about. They arrived within 24 hours of our need and interest for roofing services. As the forecast in Duluth is unpredictable and was set to rain again, they came and patched the roof quickly until they could do the entire roof. Within 1 week the roof was complete. The workers were very kind and efficient. They cleaned up afterwards as well. Highly recommend! Less

The gutters were on back order, but once they were in the warehouse they were installed the next day. The only issue I had was not being told they wouldn't be able to put the Dish receiver back in place so it would work, but that was just a call to Dish to get it reinstalled. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result of our roof. Here's a breakdown on the company's performance. Project Manager: Geoff was very courteous, punctual, and a very good listener. He was very descriptive on the insurance process and showed up to all our appointments on time. He responded to my emails and phone calls promptly. Grade: A Roofers: The roofer worked super hard. 12 hours the first day. 15 hours the second day. The two days were hot - 85+ degrees and often windy. They took necessary breaks and never left the job for another. I appreciate the commitment. Grade A Ground prep and material handling: I had several problems here. Our house is pretty tight with our next door neighbor. My neighbor has a beautiful shade garden which the ground crew cut through a 3+ foot wide path for disposal. Her plants were fully bloomed and we won't know what will live until they sprout again next spring. There were several whole sheets of shingles that didn't get picked up until 3 days after the crew was done with the job. String of nails were hung on phone lines and one of our antique lead window was broken. The biggest problem I here was broken glass spilled into our hallway. The crew didn't come in to alert us of the danger or offer to clean it up. We cleaned it up ourselves and let had to alert the project managers along with the roofers. Thirdly, some of my siding material nearby got damaged due to being stepped on. The material and broken window had to be replaced Grade: F Paper work: The office staff did a great job here. The billing was straight forward. In term of replacing our window, materials, and working with my neighbor's damaged garden, Empire did not hesitate to make it right. Geoff spoke to our neighbor and took her input gracefully. My window is being compensated by Empire as well as the damaged siding material. Grade: A Overall opinion: Empire is a good company. They were thorough, polite, punctual, priced fairly, and delivered beautiful end product. They're good at what they do and I wouldn't be reluctant to employ them again for my garage. Last fall I signed a contract with Empire Roofing. I paid my down payment on 10/03/14, which was promptly cashed. They then tacked on an additional $900.00 in November under the threat of cancellation of the contract. A 25 yard dumpster sat in the yard for 5 weeks based on the start date set by Empire. Without notification they subcontracted out the project. The job was completed mid-December. At one time there was forecast for rain and I had to call and text them repeatedly on a Saturday to have them cover the roof which was exposed (you could see outside in 8 different areas, this was done (after 6PM ,in the dark.) I had to telephone them again to have them clean up the debris: nails, shingles pieces of metal so I could have my sidewalks snowblowed. A part of the contract was to install a weathervane on the peak of the house. The vane is lying on the roof(4 stories up). The yard continues to have countless cigarette butts littering it. Hire good reputable roofing contractors instead. Less

I was a contractor for 3 years and have experience replacing and setting new roofs. I am intimately familiar with code and construction practices. Our roofing experience with Empire has been downright infuriating. Getting the estimate was relatively easy, setting everything up went well. But when they started the job... it was awful. If it weren't for my personal experience with roofs, I would never have known what was wrong and they would have simply ripped me off with shoddy and incomplete work. They started at 6:15 am without prior notification. I have kids, one of whom is medically complex, but no regard was shown for those living in the home. As far as I could tell, it was a group of 6 men with no affiliation with Empire. They arrived in an unmarked, beat up van, without "Empire Roofing" to be seen anywhere. The group of men either only spoke Spanish or completely ignored my attempts to communicate. I tried telling them that something was being done incorrectly on my way to work, but when I got home, they had still done the job incorrectly. By the time a rep from Empire Roofing came to check, the roof was almost complete. After he reviewed the work, the crew had to go back and replace some sub-fascia. In doing so, they ruined some roof edge, but didn't replace it. I witnessed one nail being put through some roof edge and despite pointing it out, they didn't replace it. They put the drip edge over the old decorative trim even though I had told them the trim needed to come off. When I reminded them, they didn't fix it. They didn't remove the old tar paper: Instead they button capped it and went over the top. They broke boards in the roof and didn't replace them. These are only some of the issues with the job that was done. Even what was technically done properly, was of poor quality. Now, we have received a letter stating they have tried contacting us repeatedly over the last 5 months asking for payment. However, they haven't contacted me at all regarding payment. They have only contacted me once asking if the job was finished. I told them it was not done and detailed specifically what needed to be completed and fixed. I was told someone would be in contact about it. No one ever called. In the letter we just received, dated December 30th, 2014, we were given a 5 day notice before they would place a lien on our property. We didn't receive said letter until the 11th of February (postmarked the 10th of February). I still haven't ever received a final bill at all and the work still is improperly finished, poorly done and incomplete. How can I pay them when the work isn't fixed or finished and I haven't been sent a bill? Shady practices at best. Downright slimy. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Less
