Iain is very knowledgeable, who has got to know me well and knows exactly what I need from each session. He's also been encouraging me to go to the gym by myself, providing step by step exercises through the Train Heroic app - again, something I never would have done otherwise. I joined BCB at the age of 59! It is an incredible place. I feel completely at ease, despite not having been in a gym like this before. Staff & members are friendly, yet focused & serious about working hard. I was paired with a trainer who has got to know & understand me & has made my experience so enjoyable. The staff and instructors made me feel welcome as did other members, there is a family feel to this environment. I can also go whenever suits myself as I work discontinuous shifts and can not commit to the same time slot each week. Well, I am in week 12 and have lost weight, gained muscle, look better but most importantly feel so, so much better. My Coach, Jack Tait, has been patient and given me just enough kick up the **** to make good steady progress. I was carrying knee injury when I started and we trained around that. Lately I have had recurring back / shoulder issue - no matter Jack has managed to provide meaningful workout programmes despite this. One to one coaching is not a cheap endeavour, nor should it be, and it is certainly quite an investment in monetary terms. That said I have certainly achieved far more than I would have on my own so have to reccomend Black Country Barbell and its programme to anyone thinking about it. This is just the beginning... Less

James makes sure every session is fun, interesting and tailored to my needs. He is meticulous when it comes to ensuring the execution of the exercises are performed properly and is always delivering clear info about what each and every exercise does and will achieve. Not just that, the 'banter' we share as we work together is a real tonic too. In just six weeks, I feel stronger, walk better, breath better, sleep better and have way less aches and pains than I had before I started. I'm motivated to improve and actually look forward to going to the gym, as I can already see (and feel) that I am getting fitter and stronger with every visit. As a 56 year old, overweight bloke, who has a desk job, I hadn't realised how much I needed to 'get fit' and it's clear that BCB will and are, playing a pivotal role in my lifestyle change. The other thing that is worth mentioning is that the gym has the most diverse group of members I have ever experienced in a gym. One might get the impression with the black paint and bold graphics, that the place is filled with muscle-bound 'Arnie' wannabes, but nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, there are some super fit men and women who train at BCB but there are way more 'normal' people like me training. When I trained the other day, there was as a chap who must've been in his 70's, and two ladies who were easily 65 plus. It's a very motivating and liberating place to train. Less

As someone who has never set foot in a gym and always felt slightly uneasy about them I was unsure about joining. However after hitting a milestone birthday this year I decided I wanted to be healthier and stronger. As a busy full time working single mum of twins, I’ve rarely felt that I had time for me over the years. However, a few months ago, I decided it was time to start prioritising my health and wellbeing. I’ve never been a gym bunny but I’m aware of all the benefits of strength and resistance training and I wanted to become stronger. That was my main goal. So I decided to give BCB a try.Always one to fully commit to something when I make my mind up, I signed up to the gold membership and met my coach, Jack Tait.I must admit, the prospect of PT sessions 3 times per week was a little daunting. However, 6 weeks in and the beneficial impact on my life and wellbeing has already been huge. Jack is fantastic and he knows exactly how to challenge me and get results. I look forward to every session. I even find myself in the gym when I don’t have a session!The improvement in my sleep quality and energy levels is fantastic. I’ve tweaked my nutrition following guidance on the macros I now need and I eat better and more than ever before. The body scans I get as part of gold membership have confirmed loss of fat mass and gain of muscle mass in greater amounts than I could have hoped in just a few weeks. Clothes I’d relegated to the back of the wardrobe fit again and I feel stronger.I couldn’t recommend BCB and Jack enough. I just wish I’d joined sooner! Less

Joining BCB gym has probably been one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I'm in my 50's (the latter half of it!) with no real experience of strength training, but I had read about the age-related benefits it could bring to counter muscle mass loss and help build bone density. So I thought if I'm going take this up then I'm going to need to find a quality gym that caters for all levels of trainer containing coaches that specialise in a diverse client base. After an informal chat with Lewis at BCB I knew that this gym would be the best place for me to begin my strength training journey...I've just come to the end of the 12 week Silver training program with my coach, Iain, who has provided me with immense motivation and knowledge during the individually personalised sessions (3 per week). Although I consider this as just the start of my strength training journey I have noticed measurable benefits, both physically and with improvement in my mood. I'm learning a great deal from Iain and Lewis, and from others at the gym. I'm discovering the types of exercises and work out routines that suit me best, and understanding how the variation of techniques and session schedules can enable me to adapt my training as I progress each week. I also enjoy the continous learning experience gained from feedback during coached sessions and reviews of my individual training session.Lewis and his team have created a very inclusive and welcoming community environment at the gym where there is a diverse mix of beginner and experienced members. BCB is a brilliant gym with a fantastic & friendly management team and a top notch set of coaches. I've walked past BCB gym many times on my way to the pub and occasionally been intimidated by sounds of clashing metal weights hitting the ground. I never imagined I'd end up training there 3 times a week and actually enjoy it so much that I'd go before work at 7am ! My wife joined first and after 3 months doing a training program with a coach her fitness improved and her enthusiasm was so contagious that myself and my son joined too. 3 months later we are all regulars and we feel healthier than we have for years. If you've not weight trained before I highly recommend signing up to their personal coaching program. you'll be assigned a coach (personal trainer) who'll teach you the basics and get you up to speed asap. My coach (Iain) has been fantastic and in 3 months I've noticed a difference to both my health and physique. In our 1hour weekly sessions he managed to teach me a lot of his extensive knowledge, from the basics of weight training, to the best techniques to maximise my training gains. He also set me a program to follow on the other 2 days a week when I train on my own. I'm very impressed with the progress I've made under Iain's guidance and would not have made those gains without his knowledgeable coaching BCB Gym is very well run and managed, it's clean and in no way as intimidating as it might look from the outside. If you want to improve your physical and mental health I recommend weight training, and highly recommend BCB Gym and its coaching program. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Less
