He told me it was still too hot to trim them now and when it cooled off he would schedule the work. However, he proceeded to trim them without the weather cooling a couple weeks later. Almost immediately one of the fully mature trees lost all its leaves and died. The second one which was perfectly healthy is now with the help of a real arborist trying to survive. Bottom line is this. Essentially Happy Tree Guys killed one tree and damaged the other by not doing the right thing, even by his own words. Every other tree expert said they never should have been trimmed at that time. I guess he needed the paycheck. Well it is costing me many thousands to replace the damage done. As with many of the 5 star reviews Scott and his crew (5 workers) did an amazing job in cleaning up 4 mesquite trees that had been neglected for more than a decade. They also trimmed a couple of other trees, including a large mature yucca that was dangerously (for the yucca) growing over our road and subject to collision with garbage and delivery trucks. But the thing that got us to Scott was a 20+ year old lemon tree that had started dropping a significant number leaves, had significant bark cracking, and had been subjected to bad pruning (read: hacking) in the past. Scott came out to look at the tree, identified with a camera app with photos of the leaves on the tree, a number of issues (salt, lack of sufficient fertilizer, and need for deep watering). He was very conservative with pruning leaving some interior branches what probably should go, since they provided some bark shade and their removal in June might have overstressed the tree. They came to work, had several trucks including a large chipper, were efficient and cleaned up the grounds among a variety of cactus plants under the trees. There pricing was fair, they honored Scott's verbal estimate even though I suspect they ended up doing more work that Scott initially expected. I have no reservations in recommending Happy Tree Guys.
