I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience with this studio so others can make an informed decision.While our actual photo session was enjoyable, the overall experience was marked by high-pressure sales tactics, poor communication, and disappointing follow-through. We were required to make all purchasing decisions during a single 30-minute Zoom call, with the threat that the images would be deleted if we didn’t commit. I was also encouraged to apply for financing before even seeing the photos, and the pricing was extremely inflated.Digital files were initially only offered in low-resolution “social media” format, not suitable for printing or archiving. After follow-up, we were sent higher-resolution files—but even those were only good for prints up to 8x10, clearly structured to push customers into buying physical products exclusively through them.To make matters worse, the photographer we were assigned was not the one advertised when we booked, and the session felt rushed.After placing our nearly $1,500 order, communication became nearly nonexistent. I had to follow up multiple times just to get updates. Despite confirming our shipping address twice, our package was sent to the wrong address, and no tracking information was ever provided. When the prints finally arrived, two were so dark one of our dogs was barely visible. The studio acknowledged the issue and promised reprints, but despite following up in February and again in April, we’ve still received no response and no replacements—months later.This has been one of the most disappointing customer experiences I’ve had—especially at this price point. I cannot recommend this studio. Be forewarned: you can find equal or better photo quality for a fraction of the price from professionals who actually care about your experience after you’ve paid. When I confronted her about the misleading ad, she tried to defend them in a way that felt completely scripted. Instead of acknowledging the deception, she just repeated the company’s policies like a rehearsed sales pitch.Even after realizing how shady this was, I still offered to pay just for the digital images—but they flat-out refused. The photos were already taken and edited, so there is NO REASON they couldn't provide them under reasonable terms.This is an unethical and deceptive business practice. We were up front at the beginning on planning a portrait session that we wanted digital prints and while she said in multiple conversations they don't normally do that, we could work something out. That wasn't true.Courtney sent text updates to get ready for the shoot that weren't specific to our objective. She also suggested that we get hair and makeup done at Southern California based companies (the studio is in McKinney, TX). We sent a pintrest board to her per her recommendation and it wasn't passed along, and she sent follow up texts suggesting we make one after we sent it. Presumably these were automated texts that are not updated or managed.For our reveal session she cancelled 1 hour before we were supposed to meet, the session had been scheduled for 10 days. For our follow up session she was 10 minutes late.In the end, the company was unwilling to work with us on selling digital files. The entire process was a waste of our time and a waste of time for Michael Anthony Photography.Overall Michael Anthony is a great photographer, but the office is beyond difficult to work with. Less

I inquired about the project then immediately set up an appointment for Boba and me. The process from start to finish was absolute perfection. Courtney, the Studio Manager for the Los Angeles photography studio location was incredibly communicative, and provided prompt responses to all of my inquiries. Prior to the photoshoot, I had mentioned to Courtney that Boba is a rescue, so he may be a little skittish. She kindly reassured me that everything would be alright, which made me feel even more confident about my decision to pursue the photoshoot. On the day of the photoshoot, Courtney was extremely empathetic to Boba and his needs, and let him freely roam around the studio in order for him to get more comfortable. To my surprise, that seemed to have built his confidence, and when it came time for Courtney to take the photos of Boba and me, I think that is what contributed to him doing such a stellar job. After the photoshoot, Courtney walked me through the next steps in the process, and we scheduled an appointment for the photo reveal. The follow up appointment went wonderfully. Courtney showed my best friends and me the slide decks, and made the process of selection really easy for us. I sincerely appreciate not only her work ethic, but her honesty and authenticity. I asked for her professional opinion on a few photos to help narrow my decision, and the feedback felt genuine, and she provided justification for her opinion—which in turn helped me make my final decision. Michael Anthony Photography strives to not only give their customers the best experience possible, but provides the proper care and support in capturing memories that are built for a lifetime. But then it turns out that this is not a project at all, but simply a way to lure clients through advertising. Nowhere in any of the emails was it mentioned that we would have to pay for digital photos. In my understanding, a project means that you use our photos for your website or social media, and in return, you give us the opportunity to receive our photos at some reasonable cost. We offered $500, but you chose to delete them instead of sending them to us. If we had signed up for a photo session with the expectation of paying the full price, it would have been completely different outfits, background, and everything else. Essentially, we didn’t even have the chance to choose a color scheme that suited us and that we liked. We followed everything as it was written in the email, thinking that this project was needed for something and adjusted to its requirements. Now, it feels like coercion. Please review your business strategy and the way you attract clients. It is dishonest to disguise your approach by luring families with children and pregnant women into a photo session, only to later demand full payment. Less

Fantastic and friendly experience with great photos at the end! My photography session with my dog was with Courtney (not Michael Anthony) from start to finish, including the actual photo taking and she was great! Courtney put me at ease, gave easy directions for the best angles and even managed to get my dog to look at the camera which she never does. The studio was a bit hot (it’s located in Valencia and I don’t think the AC did much) but fortunately we got all the shots before I actually started sweating. After your photo session, when the photos are ready, you have a Zoom call to go over the photos and pick out your package. I was surprised at how many photos I liked! The photo packages are not cheap but you get beautiful quality prints at the end. There are many options to choose from in terms of package and finish. All in all, this experience, my first professional photography session, was a good one and I highly recommend it. PS: and they recommend a hair blowout place nearby that I also recommend to get your hair done and be able to drive 10min to the studio. Less

They also complained of her directing when she should have set down...she was all over the place during the ceremony. Our photographer was brash, brusque, and not open to listening to our wants, nor did she make sure our clothes were straight for our engagement and wedding pictures.Second, I feel we were forgotten about because I had to remind the studio our wedding was in a month and we had not taken our engagement photos.Third, I did not know when booking they outsourced their photographers and the beautiful cinematic pictures they present at the consultation is an extra $1800. This was my fault for not asking enough questions.Courtney rectified the situation by editing our photos for our wedding and engagement albums for free. However, I had to remember which photos we selected because some photos ended up in our folder, which I did not select.Overall, I felt they were disorganized, costly, and information is given on an as needed basis. It would have been nice to know up front of the additional fees for the beautiful cinematic picture, which catches your eye during your consultation, and a photographer that adds peace to your days. My then fiancé and I already have an idea as to how we wanted our pictures to turn out and Michael Anthony Photography’s dramatic and cinematic photos was just perfect to capture our big day. We had our initial meeting, we met Courtney and Michael, they were friendly and professional and answered our questions right away. We had our engagement photo session at Malibu and met Jen that time. The session was easy breezy, they made us feel relaxed and at ease. The next day, Michael even made a teaser of our photoshoot that made us, our family and friends wanting more! The photos were phenomenal, we used it for our Save the Date magnets and our wedding website! Our photos made our guests look forward for the wedding with much anticipation! Fast forward to our wedding day, Michael and Jen were on time and very pleasant towards all our vendors. Michael and his assistant shot our wedding and we knew that we could surely trust them to photograph one of the most important days in our lives. He did not fail to exceed our expectations from our engagement session to the very last photo of the wedding night; Michael captured every special moment perfectly. He has an incredibly artistic and intuitive eye and works with natural lighting and angles to create stunning photos. On top of all of that, he is super easy-going and very efficient—a great combination to relax any last nerves before the ceremony, while also allowing the busy day to continue smoothly.Another huge bonus was that while we were on our honeymoon, only two days later, Michael had already finished editing so many photos and posted them on his blog and social media (many of my friends who have recently gotten married had to wait at least a couple weeks to see any of their wedding photos). We were so ecstatic to see our photos only a couple days after the big day!!! We couldn’t stop looking at them all then and we still can’t stop! We felt so comfortable at the studio and he used multiple props to change up the looks. It has been 8 months and we have not received the video. I have had to constantly call and inquire how much longer it will be. I have heard multiple excuses and been told time frames that come and go. Most recently we were told 2 to 3 weeks the video would be ready and it has now been 5 weeks since we were told that. You only receive a 5 minute video with your package so how long could it take to do the editing for that? Surely not 8 months. Maybe we will receive it for their one year anniversary.??(RESPONSE) ** I think you might be out of touch with what is going on in your office.  I've been keeping a log of the communication that we have had with your office.  You are Correct, we did receive the 1st draft of the video 3 months after the wedding, June 25th. We immediately responded with our revisions and were told it would be back be back to us with within a few weeks. 3 months later in September I called again because we hadn't received the video.  We were asked to resend all the revisions and notes since apparently they had been lost.   When i reached out to your office again,October 13th, we were told it would take 2 to 3 weeks. So now November 18th, 5 weeks later still no video. Less

We want to go through our wedding journey with you!” Throughout the process, Courtney Tomey, the office manger, was FANTASTIC! Beyond words, my husband and I could not feel more at ease with her communication skills, quick email responses, thorough explanations and organization skills! I had the pleasure of experiencing Michael Anthony Photography, after signing up for the mother & child, black & white photoshoot. From the beginning, communication was very detailed-oriented and no question went unanswered. The studio was very nice and Michael and Courtney were absolutely pleasant to my son and I. It was our first professional photoshoot together, but Michael was awesome and an expert! He gave excellent direction, and worked so well with my son, who is 6 yrs old and very energetic. He was super patient and never made me feel uncomfortable or rushed during the photoshoot.While the shoot lasted about 45 minutes, it didn't limit the fantastic photos to select from. We were laughing almost the whole shoot. Neither my husband nor I are exactly the most comfortable in front of a camera, but they made us feel so at ease. I actually nearly passed out at one point (didn't know it at the time, but I'm apparently anemic and dizziness/lightheadedness are symptoms). I was so impressed that they both knew exactly what to do. Michael grabbed a chair from some random people (lol) and Jennifer immediately took care of me, making sure I could breathe. I was worried how the pictures would turn out because of that, but they were legendary! The day of our wedding, everything that could've gone wrong with other vendors did, so it was such a relief seeing Michael and Jennifer. Once again, they were so easy and so much fun to work with. You'd think I would've known what to expect since they did our engagement photos, but once I saw the wedding photos, I was stunned! They really look like something out of a movie. I initially came to find Michael Anthony and Studio 23 Photography when Michael was looking for Mothers and Children for a Black and White Portrait Session.  I have always *loved* and have had a personal connection to Black & White Photography.  In addition to the Mothers and Children session, we were able to also do an entire Family photo session. Our last family photos were taken when our twins were newborns.  They're now 5 so it was time for an updated family portrait. Everything about the booking process was seamless and easy.  Our Session was with Michael Anthony.  He was just the most wonderful, professional, and the nicest person.  As I mentioned above, my twins are 5, full of energy and all over the place.  I’m always afraid, because my kids can be a LOT sometimes… Michael was like the kid whisperer.  He knew exactly how to work with them, and they had an amazing time!  They didn’t want to leave. Our session seemed to go by in an instant, but in reality, it wasn’t as fast as it felt.  Michael took his time and captured the most beautiful moments of my children alone, with me, with my husband, with my parents, and with all of us as a family. When we saw our gallery, chose our photographs, and received our final products, I cried.  They are so beautiful.  Michael perfectly captured the essence of us and our family.  For me, Black & White Photography is so powerful and can tell such an amazing story.  Just 2 months prior to our photo shoot we almost lost my husband to a respiratory illness.  He was in the ICU, intubated and sedated for just under 3 weeks and it was the most scary time. Now that he’s ok and home, having these Black & White Photographs taken and up on our walls makes them that much more meaningful for us to have.
