CrossFit Humanity’s 24/7 and open gym access is misleading to me. I was told that the back half of the gym was for 24/7 access while the front half was for class space. Every time I go, classes take up the entire space of the gym which is great for business but I feel it’s been super misleading for anyone who’s pays for open gym and 24/7 access. I feel there is rarely any space for me to ever do ... More

CrossFit Humanity’s 24/7 and open gym access is misleading to me. I was told that the back half of the gym was for 24/7 access while the front half was for class space. Every time I go, classes take up the entire space of the gym which is great for business but I feel it’s been super misleading for anyone who’s pays for open gym and 24/7 access. I feel there is rarely any space for me to ever do anything unless I go during non class hours which are extremely inconvenient as non class hours are a small gap during most people’s work day. ***What drove me to write this review though is when I signed up for the open gym access, I specifically asked the gym owner Nick if I can cancel at any time as I was wanting to test things out. I specifically asked if there was a 30 day/month notice needed to cancel because most gyms have that. He said “no”. He said as long as I don’t cancel literally the day before billing, then I will be good and won’t get billed. I unexpectedly had to go out of town so I called multiple times and left voicemails but no call back. I messaged on Instagram and was told I will have to pay next month’s fee. Although it’s only one months fee I’ll have to pay before being truly cancelled, this really upsets me as I was told face to face by the owner that I would be able to cancel at any time with no notice and won’t be billed. Then when I confront them about it, I’m told “it wasn’t in writing”. Well true it wasn’t in writing but when working with a small business and talking face to face with the owner on many occasions, I felt the trust was there. And I asked Nick about the no notice less then 2 months ago. I was a loyal member for about 9 months. Less

I can honestly say that from the moment I walked in to this gym I was welcomed with open arms. After attending more classes, I realized even more so that I had made the right choice. The Saturday morning partner workouts are always a blast! I look forward to them every weekend and then can't shut up about how much fun the class was for the rest of the day! They offer two small beginner classes with the head coach, Craig, that I took advantage of. I am still learning, so I especially appreciate the extra personalized tips I get from Coach Kylie during class to help develop my skills and strength. I think the name Humanity hits the nail on the head with the style of this gym! For context: I am new to CrossFit (started late February 2023), have had "gymphobia" in the past (if you believe in that), and have mostly done weightlifting/HIIT workouts at home and in YMCAs. Less

CrossFit Humanity is one of the best CrossFit gyms in San Diego. It has a large facility with an outdoor rig and one of the best communities filled with members who are very welcoming and provide a "family" vibe. The Saturday partner WODs are a great example of this as members pack it in to have a fun, team workout to kick off the weekend. The programming at CrossFit Humanity is also unparalleled. The head coach Craig is high energy and an expert when it comes to writing programs that simultaneously improve an athlete's strength, gymnastics skills, and aerobic and non-aerobic cardiovascular capacity - I'll say it again, at the same time. I've been at CrossFit Humanity for a little over six months and have since added 30 pounds to my deadlift and front squat PRs, significantly improved my ring and bar muscle ups, and gotten better at assault bike sprints. It's a great community with members and coaches that are welcoming yet raise the bar for performance. The owners Nick and Cali are also really approachable and flexible; they want people to have every opportunity to check out CrossFit Humanity and ensure they're getting the most out of their membership.
