After purchasing our home, one of the first projects my wife and I decided to tackle was replacing our original wood windows and front door. We strongly considered restoring the existing windows, but many had started to rot. Additionally, our original windows were single pane, and with our house being close to a busy road, a goal was to reduce the outside road noise. After researching several companies, we selected Classic Sash and Door. For the project's first phase, we had Classic Sash focus on our upstairs windows, a downstairs guest bedroom, and front door. About a year later, we contracted Classic Sash again for a second phase focused on our downstairs living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Overall, we're thrilled with the result and would hire them again in a heartbeat if needed. A goal for the second phase of the project was to ensure the new dining room and living room windows blended with the old-growth cedar paneling on our walls. Classic Sash ordered the windows with a bare wood interior and replaced the interior trim. They referred us to Duane Pontius to faux finish the windows/trim to blend with the existing old-growth cedar paneling. The end result was flawless. The new windows look like they've always been a part of our house. In retrospect, the only thing we would have done differently is to replace all windows with a full-frame replacement. We did a full-frame replacement for all downstairs windows and had inserts installed upstairs to save on cost. However, since our windows are relatively small, the ones with inserts are slightly smaller now. I don't put any of this on Classic Sash, as they informed us that the inserts would appear smaller once installed. However, I strongly recommend that anyone looking to replace smaller windows opt for full-frame replacements. The cost is a little higher, but it's well worth it. What we appreciated most about working with Classic Sash was their transparent pricing, attention to deal, and overall integrity. During the initial phase of our project there was a miscommunication about the interior wood finish of the windows. We assumed that the windows being ordered would arrive with a factory finish that closely resembled our existing trim. Instead, the windows arrived with a clear coat finish that made the windows stand out. To resolve the issue, Classic Sash agreed to cover the cost for Duane to faux finish the new windows to match our original trim. Contractually, they weren't obligated to do this but did so to ensure we were happy with the final result. To sum things up, if you're dealing with an old house like ours in the Portland Metro area and need new windows that fit the original style and character of your home, Classic Sash is the company to go with. We replaced a wall of 30 year old sunroom windows. We were concerned with them matching the original custom windows in the rest of the room. They used the trim from the original windows. The new windows on the right in the photo match pretty well with original ones on the left.

When it came time to go to Chown to pick out our door hardware, Bo met us there even though he really didn't need to do that (we were just confirming his suggestion; it wasn't an involved appointment). When you hear people say "went above and beyond," they are describing Bo! Email communication with everyone else at Classic has been helpful, timely, and friendly too. Peter was our main carpenter and Sam was his associate on the first day. Peter explained everything they were going to do and then they set up and began the work. Our furniture/possessions were carefully protected from the work and they set up a very nice workstation in our driveway. Peter explained everything they did and how they designed everything to allow for siding changes in the future once the door was in place. The guys were completely non-obtrusive, which is amazing given what the work entailed. I had a meeting around the time that they finished for the day. Peter simply texted me that he locked the front door, put the new keys on the hook by the door, and left through our mudroom on the side of the house (which he could lock as he left). So considerate! Peter came back the next day to finish up some trim and the dentil shelf on the door and gave me the contact info for the painter they recommend for painting the trim and staining the door. Peter and Sam were punctual, respectful of the house, and incredibly nice. Most importantly, they did absolutely gorgeous work and I couldn't be happier with the new front door and sidelights. The rest of the house looks out of place now, but one day our beautiful door will be surrounded by an equally beautiful house that reflects the era in which she was built. When it comes time replace the siding, we'll be replacing all of our windows. We've already talked to Bo about that and won't even bother going elsewhere for that job! Lovely Thomas provided the initial consultation and follow ups, and company owner, Mark Bell, came to do the final measuring before ordering my replacement (Marvin double hung) windows. Ultimately though, this review is primarily for the wonderful installation crew. In my experience, I may have had wonderful sales people representing a company, but services are performed by tradespeople who don't always measure up to the same quality you think you are purchasing. Not so with my crew from Classic Sash & Door. I had the greatest installation crew, led by Ben Fursdon (and his team - shout out to Dennis!). Ben is the most lovely, gentle, calm, and honest New Zealand carpenter. They were on time, tidy, and all that, but importantly, Ben has an easy communication style - and I sensed that his team all worked smoothly together. He sought my counsel on several occasions to ensure details (mostly aesthetic) were my preference - this attention to communication and craftsmanship are rare these days. These window replacements represented a significant investment for me, and I am left feeling that I received quality for my $$$. We hired Classic Sash & Door Company to enclose our old lattice and screen porch in 2019. Nearly three years later, we still stop to admire their stellar work. We worked directly with Bo Sullivan, a talented designer and historian, who took great care to make sure our new windows and door would match the style of our 110 year old house. The project was complicated thanks to deteriorated framing and a sloping floor. Bo actually designed the door to be 'trimmable' so when we later installed a newly-leveled tile floor it would fit perfectly. The attached 'after' photo shows the door after a 5" triangular wedge was cut from the bottom - with his planning, everything still appears proportionate. Not only that, he made sure the glass panes in the door were level with the windows on either side: a detail I surely would've missed until everything was installed. No detail was overlooked - and because of this, the work could be original (except for the fancy new window technology involved). Classic made sure our hinges were ball hinges, that our hardware was unlacquered to patina like the rest of the house, and that the grid design matched our original wood windows. It's the kind of work we'd want in a new build if we had one. The quality is top notch and the smallest details just make everything look -right-. Classic's carpenters are skilled (I have several woodworkers in the family so I can be really annoying about little details) and incredibly unobtrusive. We had many many rounds of back and forth in order to dial in a bid that really worked for us, and Bo was patient, helpful, and very responsive the entire time. I was very impressed with both how down to earth he was in some suggestions, and how professional. Also, his bid was the only one that was easy for a lay person to read! They do you the kindness of itemizing each window and the potential upgrades so you can actually reason about your project! (Our house needs *35* windows replaced, so it can be really hard to see what's going on in a bid!) If you want the best in town, I'm convinced these guys are the best. But! In full disclosure, their backlog of projects is HUGE as of late spring 2021. They did nothing wrong the whole way, but in the end, we decided we couldn't wait as long as it would take to get the best, and went with a very good competitor who was available months sooner. *Oh, and to respond to their 1-star review -- it's true, they don't specialize in cheap vinyl windows. With Classic you will not only find experience, you will also find architectural details being adhered to during the process. We went room by room and decided how the window would look from the inside as well as the outside. We discussed trim, caulking and colors that would make the windows perfect. I don’t want to fool you, this is not an easy task and it’s not for the faint at heart. With any major problem during a pandemic, expect delays and problems. The installed team showed up every time with masks and safety items. Not only caring for their safety but also respecting ours. Our project was massive, we have three buildings on our property and all three were being fitted with new windows. The biggest piece of the puzzle was the fact that the buildings are stucco. Stucco in the PNW is not common. Classic has one of the best window/stucco guys in the industry. Although there were not any problems encountered, we were prepared for the worse. As stated earlier, working during a pandemic is difficult. There were some misses in communication and deliveries, however the job is finished and beautiful. The manufacturing is done in Minnesota and the warehouse was at a lower capacity so the specialty products were hit or miss on delivery times. Classic was placed in the middle of delivering when the Marvin was not. Overall, Classic came through and made our house beautiful. Less

Called the owner 2 weeks ago and he said I would have it at the start of the week but I still haven't received the estimate nor have I heard anything. what's the point of wasting my time coming out to my house to do an estimate that you can't bother to write up? this isn't the first time I experienced this with this company I'm realizing.

Look no further, if you have a window/door project, this is your company! Classic Sash installed 12 Integrity windows and 1 Marvin door at my home. They did a superb job from start to finish. First, from a quoting perspective, they were highly reasonable and easy to work with. I received quotes from Classic Sash and one other company on various products. Mark, the owner, provided guidance on resizing options (we made one window significant larger, and one slightly smaller), view line adjustments and building codes (so our home was in good shape for future floor change possibilities). I felt no pressure and was able to make my decision based on product, confidence of installation team and price. Before making my final decision, I was able to view products and have Mark and team walk me through all options, which I really appreciated. I found this to be a gap with other companies, where typically a product was either only available in one finish, or not available in any showroom anywhere. Classic Sash's showroom is substantial, not to mention conveniently located across from Rejuvenation. They had all products, finishes, hardware and framing options, etc. on display. I'll emphasize that the quote was competitive - you are not paying more for the luxury of seeing the products in the showroom. Also, while you are meant to make an appointment prior to visiting the showroom so they can draw up the best examples for your project, I did drop by unexpectedly once and the team there was very kind in talking me through everything. Second, the installation experience was exceptional. I felt very comfortable with the crew and had the phone number of the lead. I was there the first half of the first install day, and then was not on site for anything else. They locked the doors and cleaned up at the end of each day so that when I came home I had a clean, secured home and could view the progress. It was very exciting. The complete install took roughly 6 business days, and for such a large project I felt that was a speedy timeframe. There was no lack of quality install though - everything was done very well. I also appreciated the coordination. Usually I find myself communicating with various folks within the company when I have a project. I didn't do that here. The lead on the crew was the go-between for everything (though I could have called anyone myself at any point) and did an excellent job getting timely answers to my questions and coordinating sub-contractors (drywall for the window we made slightly smaller). I'll add that while Classic Sash does not do staining, they do recommend a staining company, and I felt that I had priority service from that staining referral as a result of their relationship. I contacted the company - Aesthetic Finishes - a few days before the project wrapped and asked if they could complete staining within a 3 day window prior to Christmas - no problem, they did it. Finally, the products themselves. Absolutely perfect. I went from wood windows and jambs to fiberglass windows (black) with wood jambs. It don't regret the fiberglass decision. I had the wood sliding glass door (Marvin) stained black to match the windows, and it also looks beautiful. Everything operates smoothly, has no irregularities, and has performed exceptionally. While the warranties are with Marvin, I feel I can call Classic Sash to ask questions in the future if anything does happen, because they have a great relationship with their customers. One more data point: I have a family member who also went with Classic Sash for Integrity products a few years prior - same exceptional experience and highly recommended. I met with Mark Bell and he walked me through the job and made recommendations that were very insightful when it came to my historic home. As a matter of fact, it was just last night that I was thinking how cozy my home felt after Classic Sash and Door installed the windows. I must say, the crew that did the work were very skilled and ALWAYS cleaned up after themselves which was so important to both my wife and me.
