My first ever bad review. It’s taken some time to write this. Heartbreaking experience. Deplorable service, unorganised & sloppy. Great initial discussion and I’m sure the best intentions. Voice recorded everything instead of writing things down initially. Missed the first brief! Build windows around the existing blinds! Oops! The owner Zak forgot about that…oh well, doesn’t matter. Weird considering it was in CAPITALS on the plans. Then on day one re-directed from the initial project manager to a 21 year old for my renovation in Parkside. Had 4 Project Managers over the period and no-one knew what each was doing. They didn’t use the builders app that they said was to keep track of all discussions. Blamed each other.. Excuses & “I don’t recall” were the standard. 7 months later, I was still waiting for things to be rectified, even a bathroom shelf, instead of the initial shower recess that they “forgot” from the plans. Messy site, not maintained….rubbish left in a pile for 8 months instead of a skip brought in. Hated the experience so much afterwards, I sold my house. They have taught me a lot though, never trust, don’t be flexible & NOW to anyone building, question everything! A shame & also a disgrace. One employee standout, Amy! 😊The rest were loose & never did what they said they were going to do. Also continually lied. If I had had the money at “apparent” completion I would have taken them to court. I would not recommend Zak or his team, The damage done to the initial building & fences, including the special order doors and polished floors were repaired (or not repaired at all) in a non professional standard. Sometimes going with the bigger builders, is actually a better idea.

We had our new home fully renovated by the team at ZJ and we can’t fault them. They took our tired old house and turned it into a stunning home, giving us everything we wanted in the time frame we needed. Their communication, workmanship, professionalism and attention to detail was second to none and we love the results.

My husband and I embarked on an extensive renovation of our home with ZJ Building earlier this year. My husband did a lot of research to find our ‘perfect’ building partner as he is very much a details man and needed a company that was very particular about quality. With limited experience in renovating and being time poor, I wanted a company of experts. I wanted people I could trust would work in our best interests and deliver what I envisaged, without having to micromanage the build. ZJ has been the perfect fit for us and delivered on time, not just what I envisaged but an even better result. The team are all experts in their respective areas, justifying my faith in them. Zak explained the process in a way that we understood what was going to happen and answered all our questions honestly. My husband is pernickety about details and found a soul mate in Lee who was nothing short of amazing in the efforts he gave to deliver great results and solve problems. Amy designed, in consultation with us, areas that were functional and suggested colour schemes. She instantly understood what I wanted, to the point that we implemented nearly 100% of her suggestions. Tim co-ordinated trades seamlessly, they were of high quality and respectful. The painter, Gab, was invaluable in coordinating the colours we chose, and the results are excellent. Our neighbour noted that all the tradies would say hello to her, and noise levels were reasonable. I imagine that there were many other ZJ staff that worked behind the scenes to deliver our home and I thank all of them. The main standout for my husband and I is the level of communication between us and ZJ. Communications have been clear, truthful and any questions have always been answered in a timely manner. Our renovating experience has definitely been a steep learning curve and we are thankful and grateful to the ZJ team for assisting us and helping us along the way. ZJ Building did a fantastic design, extension and renovation of our 1920’s family home in Myrtle Bank. From the moment we met Zak we knew we would be in good hands. Zak introduced us to Tania from TK Design who helped us realise our dream kitchen and bathroom designs, while Zak worked on the construction details, drafting and logistics. From the get-go our project was a partnership and never felt one sided. Moving to our construction phase, the team, including our PM Hayden, Tim and Amy, always kept us informed and up to date, with regular on site meetings to see our vision turn into reality in front of our eyes. When the inevitable delays or gotchas occurred, which they do even with the very best, Hayden always offered a great solution for a win-win outcome. We couldn’t be more impressed with the team at ZJ and would highly recommend to anyone considering an extension or renovation project.

I understand everyone being keen to engage with Zak at ZJ Building - we were too until we discovered a week after booking a chat that Brighton is as far south in the metro area that they go. So appointment cancelled - no negotiation. I think to reduce the time spent wrestling with the big decision prospective clients should be aware up front what the ZJ's service area is. Transparency is part of the trust equation after all.
