this is a fine place for getting a diagnosis of TMD. Not so great for physical therapy. I was desperate to get help after i had some dental work done. As is commonly the case, my dentist didn't have any suggestions for the TMD which was triggered, so I went online and found that this TMD center had taken over the practice of the previous guru for TMD, Dr. Guinn. The TMD and Sleep apnea center was helpful in confirming that my TMD had flared up. Physical therapy was suggested but the first appointment in their center was in 3 weeks. I asked whether there were other qualified physical therapists, especially someone closer to my Sugarhouse location. They had no suggestions. I independently found New Paradigm therapy which had been endorsed by Dr. Guinn and got an appointment in a few days. Later I found out that the TMD center had previously referred patients to New Paradigm. However, they now have a recently trained therapist on their staff. IMHO, it was not entirely ethically to have to wait 3 weeks when they knew of another therapist who also had more experience.

My concern is primarily with this office’s communication and handling of a substantial insurance overpayment.After Blue Shield processed my claim, I was owed a refund of approximately $1,640. On July 8, I was told in writing that the insurance payment had been applied, the refund had been sent to accounting, and I should receive a check within 2–4 weeks.After that period passed, I followed up several times but could not obtain confirmation that a check had actually been issued. I eventually escalated the matter to the Director of Operations. He acknowledged that my original refund request had not been properly routed during a period of staff training and transition—even though I had previously been told it had already been sent to accounting.I appreciate that the Director apologized, accepted responsibility for the oversight, and personally contacted the bookkeeper. I have now been told that the refund check will be mailed today. However, I should not have had to spend this much time following up and escalating the matter to obtain a refund the office had known about since July.Communication and follow-through throughout this process have been well below my expectations. I will update this review after the refund is received.

I highly recommend Dr. Kevin Mangelson! He is knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly listens. He took the time to make sure my oral appliance was comfortable and effective, and I couldn’t be happier with the care I received. I’m so grateful I found him and his phenomenal team ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I first saw Dr. Mangelson in 2020 to treat waking up with a locked jaw and "clicking" every time I ate. He helped me understand why all of that was happening and set me up with a splint to sleep with and it changed everything for the better. My locked jaw/pain is no longer an issue and my quality of life is better because of it! I saw him again today for some adjustments to my splint (from 6 years ago) and everything was just as I remembered. Dr. Mangelson is so kind, the staff is lovely, and the environment was very easy to be in. 10/10 experience and I will never go anywhere else!

I have not been to see the doctor yet and I have tried to call and text to cancel an appointment. However nobody answers the phone or returns phone calls. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

After spending thousands of dollars on a mouth guard to stabilize my son’s bit, my orthodontist explained that this mouth guard has actually made his open bite even worse. I would not recommend their treatment as a way to stabilize things when dealing with jaw joint issues. Very devastating.

I had a great experience with Dr. Mangelson! I came in worried about my jaw locking up, and he was super knowledgeable and helpful in figuring out what was going on. Even though I had to wait a little longer than expected to be seen, it ended up being worth it. He was kind, funny, easy to talk to, and really took the time to listen to my concerns. He answered all my questions and explained everything in a way that made sense. I left feeling a lot less anxious and with a clear understanding of what the next steps are!

My provider put in an order, they never called. I called them, they did not answer so I left a message. They texted me a link to fill out all of my information including information regarding my insurance. They booked the appointment and only after I arrived to their physical location did they tell me they didn’t accept my insurance. Please do not book unless you have verified you will be insured.

I came here after going to several different places for my TMJ. Dr is very friendly but that was about the only good thing. I got a new appliance that doesn’t do anything, got $1500 worth of PRP injections that did nothing. And got charged $150 for a 2 minute appointment to adjust my splint. Total money pit crap. Better off going to the dentist for TMJ.

Went in for sleep apnea issues. Paid my co-pay, as requested by the desk, only to find out later that they are out of network. During the initial consultation, the impression was given that they'd bill my insurance. However, when the sales pitch came, they offered a 50% discount off the cost, just in case the insurance didn't come through. Slightly dishonest and misleading. $374 for a measurement of my jaw, a sales push on why I needed a device to shift my jaw while I slept, followed by a closer looking to get me to pay 50% before I left the dealership, I mean medical office. I paid a co-pay, which was very deceiving, in that it led me to believe that I was in-network. I'm sure they do great work, but do your homework before you use this facility. Found a sleep apnea specialist who had less than favorable comments about this place. This place is for a cosmetic approach to sleep apnea, and not an actual sleep apnea specialist office with sleep doctors. What a waste of my hard earned money.

I had an excellent experience at The Center for Sleep Apnea and TMJ. The entire team was professional, knowledgeable, and truly caring from start to finish. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the process. What really stood out was how outstanding their insurance and financial communication was. They were transparent, helpful and made everything easy to understand with no surprises. It’s rare to find a healthcare office that is both clinically excellent and so organized with billing and coverage. I highly recommend them to anyone dealing with TMJ issues or sleep apnea!

Make sure you check with your insurance before going in. After having my appointment rescheduled for a half hour later, then getting in there and still having to wait a half hour to see someone, they take a scan and THEN decide to let me know my insurance is out of network. Would have been nice to be told when the appt is first made and they ask who your insurance is. A waste of almost $300!

Bait-and-switch on insurance!I scheduled with The Center for Sleep Apnea & TMJ on my sleep doctor’s recommendation. Before my appointment, their office texted me: “we are in-network with the insurance company you have provided.” I relied on that.At the visit I had a panoramic X-ray and a new patient exam/consult with Dr. Mangelson. After the consult, they quoted $2,495 for the mouth device. When I asked what portion insurance would cover, I was then told I was actually out of network. I ended up paying $125 (X-ray) + $147 (exam) - $272 total out of pocket and left without moving forward.I asked their insurance coordinator/records management (Chris) to explain why I was told in writing I was in-network, and I did not get a response. I later learned my regular dentist can provide a similar device for about $800.I almost never leave negative reviews like this, but I’m genuinely frustrated. I also wish I had paid more attention to the existing 1-star reviews before booking. Strongly recommend confirming network status directly with your insurance before any imaging/exam here.

Apparently neither their front desk nor their insurance team can read. I spent a month and a half working with them to get a new oral appliance which required doctor and insurance authorizations only to find out that 1) those authorizations weren’t even needed and 2) my insurance is actually out-of-network, even though they originally told me it was in-network. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
