I had an excellent experience at The Center for Sleep Apnea and TMJ. The entire team was professional, knowledgeable, and truly caring from start to finish. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the process. What really stood out was how outstanding their insurance and financial communication was. They were transparent, helpful and made everything easy to understand with no surprises. It’s rare to find a healthcare office that is both clinically excellent and so organized with billing and coverage. I highly recommend them to anyone dealing with TMJ issues or sleep apnea!

Make sure you check with your insurance before going in. After having my appointment rescheduled for a half hour later, then getting in there and still having to wait a half hour to see someone, they take a scan and THEN decide to let me know my insurance is out of network. Would have been nice to be told when the appt is first made and they ask who your insurance is. A waste of almost $300!

Bait-and-switch on insurance!I scheduled with The Center for Sleep Apnea & TMJ on my sleep doctor’s recommendation. Before my appointment, their office texted me: “we are in-network with the insurance company you have provided.” I relied on that.At the visit I had a panoramic X-ray and a new patient exam/consult with Dr. Mangelson. After the consult, they quoted $2,495 for the mouth device. When I asked what portion insurance would cover, I was then told I was actually out of network. I ended up paying $125 (X-ray) + $147 (exam) - $272 total out of pocket and left without moving forward.I asked their insurance coordinator/records management (Chris) to explain why I was told in writing I was in-network, and I did not get a response. I later learned my regular dentist can provide a similar device for about $800.I almost never leave negative reviews like this, but I’m genuinely frustrated. I also wish I had paid more attention to the existing 1-star reviews before booking. Strongly recommend confirming network status directly with your insurance before any imaging/exam here.

Apparently neither their front desk nor their insurance team can read. I spent a month and a half working with them to get a new oral appliance which required doctor and insurance authorizations only to find out that 1) those authorizations weren’t even needed and 2) my insurance is actually out-of-network, even though they originally told me it was in-network. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

I would give more stars if I could! I had been in pain for 13 years and felt so much relief after just 2 rounds of injections. I used to be in so much pain I could barely get through a workday, and now my symptoms are so well managed I can work a whole day without thinking about it. I traveled more than halfway across the country for these treatments and I would do it again without a second thought. The price is so small for the amount of benefit I got. Dr. Mangelson and his whole team are a cut above the rest, not just for their treatments, but their kindness. Everyone I interacted with went above and beyond for my comfort. They gave me care I had been searching for - for YEARS. THANK YOU to everyone at the center for changing my life!

Just trying to get ahold of the office to ask a few questions took an excessive amount of effort. Multiple texts back and forth and many call attempts, etc. Once I was able to speak with someone they rushed through the cost since I would be out of network with my medical ins. As the only TMJ clinic it would be nice if they also had the option to bill my dental insurance as the appointment visit cost would be minimal and the appliance/splint could also be billed for at least a portion. I worked for a dentist that trained with Dr. Guinn and splints were $300 not over $1000 just for the appliance not including the appointment visits on top of it.

I recently visited this clinic seeking help for severe TMJ pain and left feeling dismissed, frustrated, and misled. The consultation lasted only about 10 to 15 minutes, yet I was charged over $100 for what felt like a very brief and superficial evaluation. I was advised to get a CT scan under the impression that it would "save me money" in the long run. That turned out to be misleading, as it only added to my out-of-pocket costs with no clear breakdown of charges. When it came time to pay, there was a concerning lack of transparency. I was not provided with an itemized bill for my own records, and I felt rushed to make a payment without fully understanding what I was being charged for. It felt more like a transactional experience than a medical one.Despite being told that my insurance would cover the services, I later learned this only applied to a location in a different state under the same company name. I had to file a claim myself, and while my insurance did apply a discount, I ultimately found out this provider/location is not actually contracted through UMR. This kind of oversight and misinformation caused unnecessary stress and expense. Additionally, communication with the office was poor at best. I was never able to reach anyone by phone, despite multiple attempts. All of my communication had to be done through email, which meant I was constantly waiting for responses. This only made me feel like even less of a priority as a patient in pain. Most disappointing of all was the way I was made to feel—as though my pain was secondary to the clinic’s financial interests. As someone seeking relief from agonizing TMJD symptoms, I expected compassion and clarity. Instead, I felt like just another payment, not a patient.I do not recommend this clinic to anyone seeking care for TMJ. The lack of transparency, poor communication, and rushed service made it clear that their priority is profit—not patient well-being.

So far my experience is done perfect. I was out of network, so this was all out-of-pocket, but it looks to me as though it will all be worth it in the end.I slept for the first time with my oral appliance because I have TMJ/sleep apnea Causing me to have a migraine for the past five months. I kind of feel like this is gonna be a game changer.It’s only been one night and I already feel better. Thank you, Dr. Mangelson and team. They were so kind and understanding about my situation and I couldn’t be more happy.

I read a lot of reviews before I came here, and disregarded the negative reviews but I wish I put them into consideration. This place is a money pit!!!!! First of all, the woman at the front desk was extremely unwelcoming. I almost felt like a bit of a nuisance. I decided to try this out because my insurance said they covered this center. After my appointment during the payment process, the woman told me 99% of insurance does not cover the TMJ and only covers the sleep apnea portion. If I knew I would’ve had to fork out hundreds on this just for the first visit I wouldn’t have come.The doctor listened to my concerns, but was with me for about 5 minutes. We didn’t make any progress except for taking an expensive x-ray and MRI. They pushed the MRI (which is $350) and basically said that was the only way to move forward with any treatment. He hardly felt my jaw or did any exercises to help relieve pain or help with range of motion. I ended up doing the MRI because I was desperate, but they told me to come back to do a review of it and THEN make a plan. Each time you visit it is $200, so I was reluctant to come back and pay another $200 just to see the results of my MRI and get a diagnosis. I had already paid $200 for the appointment alone, then $150 for the x ray, and $350 for the MRI and left with zero plan, treatment, or home care recommendations. Each time you visit this office, there is a $200 fee just to see the doctor and then any additional fees for treatments. I read reviews saying the splints and guards they provide are upwards of $2000-$4000 which to me is absolutely insane. Many people who come here are very desperate, these people take advantage of that desperation to charge insane amounts of money. I am 24 years old and do not have $6000-$8000 to spend on my jaw. They did not offer any payment plan or deductions. In conclusion, do not go here unless you have THOUSANDS of dollars to spend. I’m sure these treatments have worked for some but at a high high cost and lengthy treatment.I ended up finding a chiropractor and injector that is covered by my insurance and I am going that route.

I have been suffering from TMJ pain for almost four years now and have tried other various very expensive treatments over the years (physical therapy, splints, etc) without relief. I finally decided to visit Dr. Mangelson and it was the best decision I could have made for my TMJ.From my very first appointment I knew I was in the right place. Everyone at the Center for Sleep Apnea and TMJ is incredibly accommodating and empathetic, especially Dr. Mangelson. He took the time to listen to my concerns and walked me through an evidence-based treatment plan. After an MRI to determine that my discs were in place, I received a lower daytime orthotic to wear as much as possible. I noticed almost immediate relief. They also referred me to a physical therapist that specializes in TMJ treatment who helped me immensely. I went from a 23mm opening to 36mm in just two weeks. After two months using the daytime orthotic I received a nighttime appliance that has provided me further relief.Overall my jaw pain has significantly lessened, my opening has improved greatly, and I am able to chew without pain. They also worked with me on pricing for my treatment which was significantly cheaper than anywhere else I've been to or seen (my previous 'TMJ specialist' charged me $4,500 for just a nighttime orthotic that did absolutely nothing.) Overall I am so so grateful for the Center for Sleep Apnea and TMJ. This has truly been best experience I've ever had in a medical office. If you are suffering from TMJ pain please don't hesitate to visit them. I only wish I had started treatment with them sooner.
