I truly can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. Since moving to Great Falls nearly 20 years ago, James has worked with every one of our dogs, including more than 10 challenging foster dogs, many of them extremely reactive or aggressive. He completely transformed my Staffie mix, giving him confidence and calm I never thought possible, helped my mom’s rescued German Shepherd come out of his shell, and even turned our Jack Russell, who once tried to attack every dog he saw, into a friendly and easygoing family dog. Every dog James has worked with has become their happiest, most balanced self. If you’re thinking about training or boarding your dog, this is the only place I’d recommend.

I brought my dog to Dog University last year to address some behavioral issues, mainly getting her to listen, excitement lunging at other dogs during walks, and biting when someone tried to take her food.After her training, the difference was night and day. James did an incredible job helping her understand that the human is in control, and now our walks are much more manageable. She interacts with other dogs so much better, and her food aggression is no longer a major issue.Of course, there have been a few hiccups since training (as you'd expect), but by consistently applying the techniques James taught me, we've continued to make steady progress.Recently, I brought her back to address a new behavioral concern, and again, James provided clear and effective advice that helped me take control of the situation.If you're considering professional training for your dog, I highly recommend Dog University!l

I have been a consistent customer of Dog University for 8+ years. We just finished with boarded training of our second rescue with them. I think we have used every service available over our time there, and will continue to utilize their services. Boarded training is worth its weight in gold. Their weekend training classes at every level help you understand and bond with your four legged family member. The day care provides a great place for them to get that energy out. The boarding is done with care and professionalism. The owner, James, truly cares about his clients (dogs and owners). That care trickles down and can be seen in each of the staff. If I could give dogu 15 stars I would! The dog I am writing about had been to a 2 week board and train as a young dog from another popular company where I’ve spent thousands with nothing to show. I had a few incidents with my dog and my daughter and when I called that company, they immediately said to rehome the dog or buy 15 acres of land and let the dog be an outside dog without even evaluating him. I spoke to other trainers on the phone and they said to rehome or shock the crap out of him. Let’s just say I did not go with them.Rewind to 2020 when we had a new puppy (different dog) and spoke to James. I remembered his care for dogs so I figured I’d give him a call and see if he would evaluate him and give me his honest opinion about Bleu and his behavior. Let me tell you i am so glad I did and gave Bleu the chance he deserved to get real training by people who really care for and understand dogs.My anxious, “does whatever he wants” dog is so confident and knows what is expected of him. He had a habit of crying relentlessly in his crate even after being sent to multiple trainers and now he jogs into his crate at night at bed time. He is a changed dog for the better. He is so much more relaxed and truly enjoys our training sessions. He used to pull me the entire walk and now I can walk with him on a relaxed leash while pushing my jogging stroller. I have continued doing daycare and training classes with Mark and Bleu gets so excited to go every time. He’s also so exhausted at the end of the day; he’s a very high energy dog and this is the only thing that tires him out! The staff loves and cares for your pets. They really are doing special work at DogU and i couldn’t recommend them more. Mark, James and the staff at DogU are top notch! I have even had to call at the last minute to have him board overnight after daycare and they were so accommodating, it really put me at ease.If you are questioning weather to bring you dog here or somewhere else, don’t even think twice and bring them to DogU. Bleu gives it two paws up!!

Dog University is amazing on all fronts! The training Kalei has received really helps us with her anxiety; attending day care has allowed her to learn to socialize with all different kinds of dogs; and boarding is like a home away from home. She feels very secure at Dog U and can’t wait to get there every day!

We went to Dog U for our then 1 year old dog to get training prior to our first child being born. We were blown away with how well the training went and the knowledge that the owner James and his staff know about dogs and even gave us some training to be better owners. Fast forward 6 years and we still use Dog u for daycare 3 times a week for our same dog. She is the happiest dog when we arrive and is sufficiently tired when we pick her up. I would highly recommend dog u for any training daycare or boarding needs. Staff is highly trained and I know my dog is in good hands when there.
