I've been a member of Alberni Valley CrossFit for about 6 weeks now. From the beginning, I was welcomed and encouraged by both the coaches and the other members. I like that there is a wide demographic of ages and abilities, so I don't feel like the odd one out. The workouts are fun and engaging and it's nice to have the accountability of registering for a class and knowing I need to show up. I definitely recommend Alberni Valley CrossFit if you're thinking about trying out a new workout.

The Legends class provides a safe yet challenging pace, and is ideal for participants who are striving to either recover or improve their fitness. While there is encouragement to push through to higher levels, respect is given to our knowledge of what we are able to manage without injury. The trainer is always checking our body mechanics, and participants encourage and celebrate each other’s achievements. And the workout routines are always varied, never boring!

I joined the Legends group at AVCF in Nov 2025.The group is very welcoming, supportive and fun. Our coach is awesome. The routines are interesting and challenging. Daniel is always professional and makes sure everyone has the right body mechanics when doing all the exercises.I was feeling unmotivated with my old routine and now I am happy to come to class. I already notice an improvement with strength and mobility. I love it.

Best decision i made was to try crossfit! I have done bootcamp, pilates, yoga, hiitt, but this is by far my favorite, its a great workout The coaches are motivating and everyone is so supportive and positive! Give it a try you wont regret it!

I was so intimidated to try CrossFit but I gave it a try and the coaches at Alberni Valley CrossFit are so supportive and encouraging! They altered the exercises to accommodate an injury I have and made sure I got an amazing workout while stay safe. If you are thinking about trying CrossFit do it!

Every time I visit Port Alberni I am welcomed into the CrossFit community. AVCF offers great workouts with lots of variety and modification when needed. Gabby gives excellent feedback and cues to allow me to perform at my best. Highly recommend you visit Alberni Valley CrossFit!!

Did my third drop in in a year when I travelled around. Every time I’ve got very heartly welcomed, from the coach and the members. The training there is great, a small but mighty box. They give you even advices for places to see or food. Love this place!

Love this place! We droped in last year when travelling on the island and came back this year for 2 more sessions. Very friendly coaches, super nice community and everyone is welcoming you. I did drop-in to numerous CrossFit Gyms and this is definitly a favorite!

I’ve been a member of Alberni Valley CrossFit since October 2023, and it has been a fantastic experience. AVCF offers structured classes that make it easy to commit, which was exactly what I was looking for as I haven't been a consistent member of any gym, ever. The coaching staff are personable, knowledgeable, and always rooting for you. I did a drop-in WOD here while in Port Alberni, and I was very impressed with the friendliness and with the variety of equipment. There is a good amount of floor space for a small box, as well as all of the necessary CrossFit equipment, from Concept2 rowers, to SkiErgs, and Echo Bikes. The owner, Devin was there for the partner workout I did, and was extremely friendly, as were the other athletes in the WOD. Bonus points for having a good number of t-shirts in stock!

AVCF has a really good vibe. The gym culture/atmosphere is supportive and friendly. Just show up and work hard. I've seen my strength, cardio endurance, and skill development improve and it's been amazingly motivating. Also my jeans fit better. Can't beat that. :) The couch to CrossFit journey is worth it.

AVCF works so well for my ADHD. Signing up for classes gives me the social pressure to show up that I struggle with. The workouts are all predetermined so I don't have to put an ounce of thought into what to do.The workouts and people are great too.24/2/26 Edit/update:- squatted my body weight for the first time ever- did my first pull up in 20+ yearsThis gym works!

I have personally witnessed each coach at this gym do the workouts themselves. They are not asking anyone to do anything that they aren't willing to do themselves. They aren't just coaching, they are setting an example and I find that to be so inspiring. It's clear that the knowledge they have is cultivated through experience as well as education.On top of that, they are friendly and welcoming...as are the members. I would encourage people of all ability levels to try it out because the coaches will meet you at your individual level and ability. 10/10

Started CrossFit in July 2023 and I don’t have one single regret! Knowledgeable instructors, great people and inclusive atmosphere. I have always been interested in CrossFit but never lived in a place that had a CF gym. I’m so glad that Devin and Gabby took a chance on the wonderful community of Port Alberni. I started following AVC on IG and was fascinated and intimidated by all the strong and powerful athletes who were attending. I was definitely curious and wanted to know what the hype was about. When AVC did a giveaway in July 2023 I decided to enter and I told myself that if I won then that was my sign to join. Of course I won the giveaway and started my first couple of free classes one on one with coach Devin. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about CrossFit and he supported me through my fears and pushed me passed my comfort zone. I then became a member in August and it has truly been one of the best decisions and investments for my mental health and wellness. The classes are oddly addictive and the community is truly like no other! Thank you so much Devin and Gabby for finding your way to Port Alberni.

I first tried out AVCF during bring a friend week, I had no idea what to expect but figured it was worth a try. While I was nervous showing up, Gabby and every fellow member were warm and welcoming. After recovering from my first few classes, I found myself excited to go back for more. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and truly invested in the progress of each member. Nothing to stress about for beginners; there is a emphasis on proper form and technique, ensuring a safe workout every session. Every movement is endlessly adaptable to all fitness levels. The community is incredibly welcoming and supportive, making for a positive and motivating atmosphere. I've already seen improvements in my strength and endurance since joining. I’m excited to see what I can accomplish next. If you're looking for a supportive community and expert coaching, AVCF is the place! Highly recommend!

About 10 years ago when Crossfit first started to become popular I had always wanted to try it. I was so excited when Alberni Valley CrossFit opened up! The coaches bring a high level of experience and expertise. They give quality instructions, instant feedback and adjustments during the skills and workouts with the right amount of encouragement! The workouts are for everyone because they are infinitely scalable, challenging and fun. You never seem to do the same workout twice and if you show up consistently you will see the results! It truly is a life changing gym experience and I highly recommend Alberni Valley CrossFit to anyone looking to join a gym and find a supportive community!

This is a clean and organized gym with friendly and knowledgeable instructors and a welcoming clientele. I have absolutely loved my first experience with CrossFit over the past 6 months. I love the variety in each class without the lost feeling I often get in a gym of having eyes on me while having to think of what to do on my own. I feel myself getting stronger each week and love the way that coaches challenge my own self imposed limitations in a way that feels safe, supported and positive.

Love this gym. Everyone is very welcoming. Coach Devin is knowledgeable and adapts to everyone’s level. If CrossFit and/or going to a new gym is outside your comfort zone, this is the place to get past that.Thoughts 9 months later:I am extremely grateful for AVCF and thankful that we have this “gym” in Port Alberni.I put gym in quotation marks because yes it is a place where you do fitness like other gyms but it is so much more:-having the programming done for you so you are never left wasting time because you are not sure what to do is amazing-always getting the equipment you need. Never having to worry about a busy gym where you won’t get the machine or whatever you wanted-having an experienced, certified coach at every class-having the accountability to show up. The coaches want you there. There is no just collecting your monthly fee while you never show up-lastly the community. A piece I never knew I would value as much as I do. I have meet and became friends with some of the best people because of AVCF

I cannot say enough great things about AVCF! As a first time CrossFitter and being new to the area, I joined in hopes of achieving some of my fitness goals, as well as, meet some new people. I can say that I've successfully done both! Beyond being a gym, this is a community that has really helped me integrate into my new neighbourhood. So grateful to Devin for bringing CrossFit to the valley!
