Topics covered are rhythm, barre chords, finger style, solos etc even... if you are a beginner. He is very attentive to all his students from school kids to guitar students in their 70's. A lot of his students are young adults and middle age students. Jack enabled me to play anywhere on the fret board, and not restrict his students to open chords only. I have taken private lesson one on one and with Jack you will have 1 or 2 other students with you. Believe me it is better in a small group of 2 or 3, so that you can have an idea what other students are working on and how you are progressing. I have also taken a class group lesson at the RCM and it was just terrible. I am just happy to have found Jack and I have been with him now for about 15 months. After years of learning to play by watching YouTube videos and playing solos by ear I took classes at this school with Miguel who is very knowledgeable and a great player. The re are usually two student in each class. Materials are prepared before each session and a portion of time is spent on teaching theory and a portion on working on a song (of your choice).

I had zero experience before walking in to try an experimental class and signing up for regular classes was one of the best decisions I ever made. The instructors have infinite patience and the classes are easy to follow even if you have no prior background like I did.

I still have a long way to go, but I feel much more confident in my abilities now, and understand much more about technique and theory. Jack is really an amazing teacher. Jack and the other teachers in the team like Miguel, Akhil, Rodrigo, Simon, and Joey figure out what gets (and keeps) you motivated based on the songs and style of music you’re interested in playing, and curates a lesson plan to keep you moving forward. The teachers have been amazing in teaching me new skills, satisfying my curiosity, and pushing me to improve my technique when needed. The school uses the concept of a practice journal for accountability, which also serves as a tool for Jack and the team to pick up on what you’ve been practicing in between lessons and perhaps struggling with. It has happened often that I write down something in my journal that I have trouble with or that I am curious about (e.g. some music theory concept), and then Jack or the other teachers will integrate that into my next lesson, which is one of my favourite aspects about the teaching methods. It makes the lessons feel super personalized and motivating. I also really love how classes happen in small groups, so you get used to playing in front of others and sometimes with each other (with one person playing rhythm and the other improvising over that). The school also organizes regular events, like jam nights where I had fun playing a song together with a large group of other guitar students. Other workshops have covered topics like ear training, fretboard knowledge, or blues. And recently, there was even a real concert with a full band with many students performing! This also helps to build a community of likeminded people – I've enjoyed chatting with and meeting several other students at these events who aren’t in my regular guitar class. Finally, I love the flexibility to take lessons online in case you can’t make it in person that day. In summary, I highly recommend Level Up Music School. Give them a try, you won’t regret it 🙂 Less

I'm really impressed with how passionate and thoughtful they are with each and every student's progress and specific preferences. A big concern I had before learning guitar in a class is having to follow a set curriculum and having to learn songs I don't enjoy listening to. Shortly after, I was scheduled to meet with Jack for a trial lesson and I could tell immediately that Jack was super passionate about not only guitar, but teaching his students.. which was super important to me. If you’re looking for a guitar teacher either to play casually or professionally, Jack is your guy! He’s a very patient teacher and accommodative. His years of knowledge shows when he teaches.
