This is a great Box. You won’t find another quite like it. The coaches are knowledgeable and well trained. They care about you not getting hurt. In my experience, those that say CrossFit leads injury have all been from a Box that cares more about their athletes representing in competition, than the longevity of the athletes. This place is diverse and fun. Truly a community.

Simply the best fitness experience that I ever had in my life! I abandoned my sedentary routine because of this box! Everything is so dynamic, in almost 2 months of classes, I never repeated a single train. Everyday I learn new exercises, challenge myself and overcome my difficulties.

My crossfit experience started October 2012. My decision to join was based on great results doing circuit training with a personal trainer and the fact that LA fitness was just not motivating anymore after a year. So one day in my office I Googled crossfit after seeing an advertisement for it. I did a little research and noticed there was one very close to my house. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the rocky balboa training regimines. I sent an email and within an hour Nick Maggio was blowing up my phone. I remember asking him if there was a hot tub and what the shower situation was like...he told me to just stop by and give it a shot, so we set a date. My initial thoughts were I can do this for a month or 2, then I'll take what I learn and go back to LA fitness. I thought I just needed to learn a few new exercises and i would be good to go. Other initial thoughts from my first day centered around this old poster hanging on the wall of the old box, it said something about how this is a breed that "enjoys pain", "challenges" and "getting up from failure"...as a psychologist this made me think a little, like these people that do this stuff are crazy!!! Lastly I couldn't help but wonder, how am I gonna take this coach serious... between the beard, shaved head, and tattoos, i was waiting for this guy to cut a WWE promo and smash someone over the head with a steel chair--Jason McLean, (told you I'd get you back for making fun of me today). Getting through the first day was rough, and I felt pain I didn't know existed getting conditioned to the workouts. But each week got a little easier, and the results I gained started to build my confidence that I could actually do this stuff, before long I started coming daily, and sometime soon after-- I started to love it. The exercises and physical training I learned to endure over the past 2 years have been like nothing I have ever done or saw myself doing. I could never bench press, and the fact that I can bench slightly more than my body weight is a huge deal for me...I have gained so much from crossfit that go beyond the WODs or anything I learned in 5 years of grad school...i wished that this existed when i was younger, that being said, i have encouraged my oldest daughter, who is 15 to join, she just wrapped 3 mths this week! I owe a huge thank you to our carnage coaches Jason, Nick, Marc Ouellette, and Chad Turnipseed, great guys that have all helped me hits new PRs, and yelled at me to better my form or push myself when I get lazy...coming into crossfit knowing nothing, I had the same concerns about crossfit that many people have--too intense, not enough coaching, rough conditions...I've never enjoyed being so wrong about something, after 2 years im in the best shape of my life, and any injuries have been minor and resolved quickly. Lastly, I want to give respect to awesome crew of people we have at carnage, you all know who you are, especially the 6am crew, I hate you guys most days, but I guess I'm just one of those people that enjoys pain, challenges, and getting up from failure! Sweat. Laughs. Cries. High fives. Cheers of motivation. Walking in and feeling accepted and walking out feeling accomplished. This is CrossFit CARNAGE! Physically I am a different person and mentally I am stronger than ever before. I will never go to another gym. Day 1, this gym made me feel like family and now I am happy to say I welcome others into my CrossFit family.

New friends, even at 6 AM, are hard to come by. Busting your butt with them makes it much easier. Coaching can't be beat. Knowledgeable in technique and ability to motivate is exceptional. Pushes you without being pushy and knows when to back off. The numbers speak for themselves (see my post on the Carnage Facebook page). Looking forward to my 5:30 AM alarm.
