A friend referred me to Hammer (Greg). This friend did a whole house remodel with Hammer and was pleased beyond expectations. They found Hammer after they parted ways with the previous Design/build firm who was doing a poor job. Their house turned out amazingly and it has been in at least one interior design magazine. I was interested in getting Hammer to weigh in on some interior changes to a house we were considering buying. Greg was very upfront in that Hammer is not licensed in Virginia. After that he not only recommended other firms but he spent 40 minutes on the call with me to educate me, give me pointers on what to ask/ascertain. Most importantly he gave me some high level pricing guidance with minimal input from me. The time Greg spent with me was extremely worthwhile. I'd use Hammer for sure given the opportunity. Greg has worked with us over the past 2+ months to stick as closely to our budget as possible even in the wake of new and expensive discoveries that have popped up during the remodel. Greg’s team is professional and respectful. They took our concerns seriously, including the one about keeping our two cats safe from the construction work. Although it is unfortunate that we needed the extent of work done that we did, we are very glad we chose Hammer to help us. Hammer had more than enough expertise to do the job right... the first time.. and fixed any and every potential problem that they uncovered during demolition (the quality and longevity of any project is mostly due to what you can't see - behind the finished walls). Although we originally intended to simply replace the cabinets and appliances, Andres presented us with several different possible designs, and we ended up changing the layout of the room. Greg walked us through the process and the various options, and we realized that we could change the design without too much of a change to our budget. Everyone from Hammer was very professional and responsive throughout the process. Andres was very helpful as we made decisions about things like countertops, backsplash, and paint. Jorge, Rafael, and the rest of the team made sure all the work was done on schedule and according to the design. The project manager communicated with us the entire time and ensured the project stayed on track as best as possible. The craftsmanship was top notch and everything was done as described in our plan. We finished the project and our in-laws have moved in and started using the space with great happiness. After meeting with several contractors, we went with Greg and Hammer Contractors and were extremely pleased with the results. Hammer Contractors installed a full kitchen with gas range/oven, sink, cabinetry, refrigerator hook-up, granite countertops and hardwood floors. An interior wall was also framed out to create a bedroom and the half bath was converted to a full bath by adding a shower enclosure. Throughout the entire process, the designer Andres, Greg and Jorge were a pleasure to work with. Initially, there were a couple back and forth meetings where the scope of work and materials were hashed out. Once agreed upon, the cost remained the same throughout the entire process with no hidden or discovered expenses. The timeline was followed nearly to a tee despite some challenges with the weather. At the time of the renovation, I had another contractor renovating my master bathroom. Comparing the two contractors were like night and day. Hammer's guys would show up first thing in the morning and work full days. They were always very polite and accommodating to my family as we were living through the renovation and constantly checking on the progress. Overall, the project finished on budget and on time and everyone associated with Hammer was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely work with Hammer again and have already recommended them to neighbors.
