Here's the thing the service has potential, but the lack of transparency and accountability is a major issue. The $100 diagnostic fee is clearly stated upfront, which I appreciated. Before the appointment, I explained that my car had been sitting for over a year, that it previously ran hot, and that the thermostat was sticking. I was told I would need a new battery first; due to the cells in the battery being dead, then the thermostat would be replaced, followed by a diagnostic. However, after struggling to install the battery, the mechanic seemed ready to wrap up. He ran a diagnostic for about 30 minutes and said everything looked fine because the fan was turning on or "opening up." The issue is, the car never overheated while idling—it only overheated while driving. Since the car had been sitting idle the entire time, that wasn’t an accurate assessment. When a customer clearly communicates an issue and it’s not fully considered, it comes across as rushed and unprofessional. The pricing was also unclear. I was told the battery cost $210, but my total came out to $431. That included: $100 diagnostic fee, $210 battery, $121 an installation and an additional 0.5% debit card fee (not disclosed until the point of payment). If that is meant to be a convenience service, that should be clearly communicated upfront. I understand paying for convenience, but isn't your diagnostic fee the service fee/labor? In the end, within 15 minutes of me paying and the mechanic telling me nothing was wrong, my car ran hot, I had it towed to Tate Boys and they replaced the thermostat, completed a cooling flush and did an oil change for $565.I appreciate the same-day service, however, for the price paid, I expected a more thorough and accurate diagnosis, especially when the issue had already been identified.
