My family and I recently took in a black lab that was in a tough situation. I asked the folks at our vet if they had a recommendation for a trainer to help our new dog adjust to his new surroundings. Everyone at our vet office recommended Mike at Genesis K9 Training. Mike was great to work with, and he really cared about our new dog. Mike did a great job teaching me and our dog how to establish our relationship with each other. We just finished our last lesson with Mike yesterday and we have a different dog than when we started. Even the staff at our vet’s office noticed a difference in our dog and commented about how much more adjusted he has become. Mike does an excellent job of reading the dog’s behavior and draws from his vast experience to solve the challenges that arise during the course of training. I came to Genesis K9 Training in pure desperation. My 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier was, quite frankly, a terror. He was becoming more and more aggressive towards people and my other dog, Bug. I had to do something! Mike met with us first to assess Sparky’s behavior. I instantly knew Mike had a passion for training dogs, err, people. He made no promises but was confident he could help. I honestly didn't think anything could keep Sparky from being aggressive so I was nervous about getting started. In true fashion, he tried to attack Mike's shoe on the first night. Oye. But, what happened over the next two weeks was truly amazing. We learned SO MUCH! Our relationship was being redefined, and Sparky went from being a terror to chill in just 10 classes. On the last night, he was calmly sitting 4 feet away from Mike's dog, Charlie, and a foot away from Mike. Unbelievable. Our hard work paid off!! If you have a dog showing aggression, Mike is your guy. He is very calm and so very patient. Mike is a gifted instructor and his methods are sound and true. But, you have to put in the work! The immersion program would not have been successful without doing the homework. Sparky and I were able to succeed because we came prepared and we practiced our new skills two or three times a day. Each class builds on the last and before you know it, true progress unfolds right before your eyes. If anyone is looking for a dog trainer, I HIGHLY recommend Genesis K9 Training ! I took our rescue GSD there for training in October of last year. Here is a picture from today... my 18 yo son took her to White Marsh to go fishing with his friends, he put her in a "down" and walked away and she stayed exactly how she should of. He also put her in a "heel" with no leash when he got out of the car and she walked right next to him over to the pond. We do work with her on "keeping up with commands" but not regularly and mostly around the house. She listens so well bc of the foundation Mike (trainer from Genesis K9) set for her during her training. This dog was my first one I sent to professional training and it has been worth every penny. Mike is amazing! I called him when my aussie was just out of control and I was at my wits end. He suggested the immersion program and it has been the best thing we have done with our dog. Please, whatever you do, do not get rid of your dog who is making you pull your hair out, bring Mike of Genesis K9 on board!!!! He is most definitely a dog whisperer and he is all about positive reinforcement training. We have the most beautiful, intelligent, high prey drive shepherd that made me think I was going to lose my mind. Her biting and jumping on me and treating me like a littermate but looking at my husband as alpha brought me to tears many days. I knew she needed more than a class full of cute little puppies. She was four months old when I called Mike, and I know he could hear the desperation in my voice, and we started training with him the next week. This was life changing. Fast forward 10 months, and we just completed the Immersion program today. WOW!!!! My husband worked this program for 8 days, I took the last two sessions. I couldn't imagine what was being done to make my husband walk in every evening after training saying our girl did better than the night before, but that is exactly what happened. I've never dealt with a personality or drive like hers before, and in our 60s we thought we made a mistake bringing this puppy into our home. This Immersion Program was icing on the cake nd we know we can text, call or email him anytime. Mike is worth his weight in gold. I have an Anatolian shepherd mix who lunges and growls at other dogs for no reason. He is incredibly strong and stubborn. Mike is the most patient person with dogs and worked with Leo to gain his trust and praised him for following commands. He explained to me the training techniques and sent videos. Mike stays calm and uses repetition, high value treats and praise to reinforce good behavior. If you have a strong-willed stubborn dog, Mike has the patience and skill to understand your dog and correct the behavior. My dog Thunder and I just completed the 10 day Immersion Program with Mike from Genesis K9.  Thunder is a working German Shepherd who has some trauma in his past and has been attacked by several dogs in our busy neighborhood over the last few months which greatly contributed to his reactivity and aggression towards other dogs and humans approaching him.  There are no words to express my appreciation and gratitude as this program has been life changing for us.   Mike takes the time to listen and get to know you, your dog, your goals and tailors the program to your needs and adjusts based on his insights.  He’s definitely a dog whisperer!  We met at several different locations where we experienced a progression of different situations around other dogs and people.  I found this program so successful because he’s not only training your dog, but more importantly he’s training you.  It’s a partnership between you and your dog and being involved so hands on in the training made all the difference.  The bond Thunder and I have formed since this program is beyond amazing.  Mike has given us the tools for success and has transformed our anxiety, fears and aggression into confidence.  Thunder is so much more controllable, understands his boundaries, has better impulse control and knows what I expect of him.  I have the tools and confidence to continue our active life of hiking and great adventures and most importantly, it has created an inseparable bond between us.  I’ve had a lot of dogs in my life and have worked with several trainers but I can honestly tell you, Mike is the best! We cannot thank Coach Mike enough for working with us and our two pups! Both are rescue dogs and we brought the one into the mix last February. Annoying little sister thru and thru and they just couldn’t get along. They were very violent and aggressive to each other at all times and could not be in the same room. It was terrible and affecting our family in the worst way! The jealousy, aggression, leash pulling, etc was horrible. From the second I met Mike at Genesis K9 training, I could tell how professional he was, and how in tune he was to my dog. He truly is a dog whisperer! He was patient and kind working with us and very skilled in teaching me how to handle my dog, who had been mistreated, neglected and abused. I came to him, desperate for help, because my dog was attacking our older dog so very viciously I didn't know what else to do, feeling like I was walking on eggshells and actually had given her up at one point. But then through friends and my vet, he was recommended to me. Through his Immersion Program, he taught me skills that I never realized that I had and that would work with a five-year-old dog. My dog Mocha and I just finished 8 private sessions with Mike. I was originally going to do the board and train, however I decided not to due to scheduling issues and I’m so glad I did the private sessions. I created a strong bond with my dog, she is now more confident and I am more confident in taking her out in public. Mike exceeded expectations and was extremely easy and flexible to work with, allowing me to schedule sessions around my crazy schedule. The first few sessions he actually came to my house to train Mocha. As we progressed through the weeks Mike made the sessions more challenging, building on the previous sessions. One session mike actually had a whole course set up with fake dogs and a fake deer to simulate distractions Mocha might come across and how to deal with them. I can’t say enough good things about Mike and his training. Mocha is now a calmer more obedient and relaxed dog than she ever was before. I can now trust her recall and that she will listen to me. Mike just trained our golden doodle Sophie and we are thrilled with the results! The program was very structured and Mike is clearly an excellent communicator… to dogs as well as us owners. I highly recommend Genesis K9 Training. Mike is a true professional who cares deeply for the pets he's entrusted with. Our young dog Daisy had a couple of habits we were unable to correct ourselves. We used the "Doggy Day Camp" which included 4 hours of training at the end for the "hoomans" so they knew what to do. Daisy is just as lovable and energetic as before but without the bad habits, and she's a good "citizen" know with Sit, Stay, Down, Heal and Come as recognized behaviors. Less
