I went there for regular cleaning. It was my first visit and here is my candid feedback. There were several minor issues with this facility but I didn't give those much attention until the final nail in the coffin moment happened for me wherein I was scammed into paying $175. 1. I checked (or at least tried) with the receptionist that my visit should be covered completely by my insurance and asked if there would be anything that I need to pay for? The receptionist was not giving me a clear answer but I sense a bit of attitude in her response, but I asked 2 times because I had to be sure and she said that this visit is covered. This was first red flag - Provider not clearly informing the patient if he would be charged for anything. 2. Then the procedure started, they took xrays n all (didn't check with me, I thought that is their procedure), did the cleaning n all - this was the first time when water was splashing on my face and eyes during any dental cleaning. This was not the best dental cleaning experience for me but it wasn't very bad, so I ignored it. 3. When I was checking out, I was given a bill of $175 for XRays - This is the biggest red flag and this is where I felt cheated and scammed - They said they have to take xrays for every new patient and your insurance only covers xrays once every 3 yrs - But, they never cared to inform the patient beforehand that this is your first visit and we must take xrays which might cost you, they never even cared to check my insurance properly during checking me in if these xrays are covered by my insurance, they never even cared to send that bill to my payer (insurance) to see if they would pay it, they simply forced me to make the payment right there. I am going to report this as well to whatever agencies I can because this was the most unethical experience I have had with a medical provider. You can't tell a patient that his visit is completely covered and then do a procedure without his consent or inform him that it would cost you, then charge the patient, and force him to make the payment before leaving. Had a very positive experience at new century smile with Dr Nam Phan and Dr George Manthas. Had to undergo periodontal treatment which was nerve racking, however the laser treatment I was given was a virtually painless process and the results have been excellent. I went in for oral surgery with lots of anxiety but Dr. Nam Phan was amazing. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes and although it was a major procedure, I had no pain during or after. Dr. Phan not only did an amazing job but checked on me the next day and still, NO PAIN! Thank you!

The receptionist was rude and another patient who had mixed up the date of the appointment (hers was following week) was seen before me, even though I had an appointment on that day. I have had many dental cleaninggs and this was by far the fastest (not in a good way) and the most painful. My teeth have never bled so much. There are other options nearby, you should use those instead.

Upon arriving on my first day (during my lunch break) for my exam and cleaning, I was told they would only be able to take my my x-rays but not conduct the cleaning because the hygienist had hiccups, and I would have to make two separate appointments for the cleaning and to get the cavities (that I initially came in) for filled. Extremely frustrated with having to make an extra trip for such an unprofessional reason, I reluctantly scheduled to return again the next day at lunch time. Upon arriving the next day and getting situated with the hygienist, I was questioned about the leg brace I was wearing (which I had also been wearing the day prior during my exam). After explaining that I tore my ACL at the beginning of the year and had surgery a few months prior, they told me that they could not perform the cleaning without me taking premedication prior. Again extremely frustrated that I traveled out of my way during my lunch break to be turned away, I asked why they did not have the same conversation the day before to ensure I was prepared for the procedure and my time wasn't wasted. While they tried to argue they were doing the right thing by not seeing me, I explained how their lack of preparation has inconvenienced me by wasting my time and causing me to travel out of my way for no reason. Extremely angry that I would still need to come in at least two more times to finish off my process, I scheduled an appointment for the cleaning for the next week. Upon arriving for my third visit (once again on my lunch break), I was told that the hygienist was out to lunch and that I could either wait half hour or reschedule for another time. When I inquired about potentially squeezing in the filling in her absence, they replied that they wouldn't be able to fill them until at least after Labor Day (over 3 months from when I initially called in to make my appointment). Being faced with potentially having to go out of my way 5 times over 3 months for a procedure as routine as getting cavities filled, I was completely fed up with them and decided to take my business elsewhere. Dr. Manthas is by far the best and most professional dentist I have every met. He makes you feel very comfortable and his staff is very professional. I highly recommend him if you are in the NYC area. If you are not in the area he is worth the trip from where ever you travel from.
