I cannot speak highly enough of this martial arts program. My son started as a tiny tiger and has flourished into a blue stripe belt holder under their guidance. Not only does Kuk Sool Won teach invaluable self-defense skills, but the instructors go above and beyond to instill essential values like manners, ambition, and reassurance in every student. My son adores all of his instructors and eagerly looks forward to each class. It's heartwarming to see how he always wants to give them a hug and express his gratitude at the end of every lesson. My 13 year old started at Kuk Sool Won of Oak Hill in the fall of '23 because they offer an Off Campus PE program approved by AISD. Not only did my kid have a great experience with doing OCPE there, but we are very happy with our whole experience. The owners are welcoming, respectful, inclusive, and genuine in their love of sharing this martial art with others. I attended their women's self defense class that they hold a couple times a year and found it to be very helpful and accessible to all abilities. Tim, Barbara, and the rest of the instructors are fantastic. We highly recommend you check them out if you are interested in this style of martial arts and/or OCPE. Less

I highly recommend Kuk Sool Won of Oak Hill. My daughter has been attending for over two years so far and it has been a wonderful experience. She has progressed from a white belt to earning her brown belt, has learned so much, and had so much fun! The owners and instructor team here are very good with helping children develop the many skills in KSW martial arts, are patient, encouraging, and hold them to an appropriate standard to help them grow. We know she is in good hands during classes and training. The school has the feeling of being a big family. We enjoy going as a team to the annual tournament and cheering each other on, that is another great part of participating in KSW. Less

I recently decided I wanted to fulfill a longtime interest and learn martial arts. Once I made the decision I was left with the harrowing task of deciding which dojo I wanted to entrust my body to. While researching all the various local dojos I came across Kuk Sool Won, and began to do extensive research on the school and Korean martial arts as a whole. The website had tons of great info about the school and the system and I was intrigued, but I noticed the site did not mention belt testing fees, which I had only recently learned about during my research on dojos. So I decided to call the location to get the information that way I could have all the relevant information I, as a potential paying customer, would need. The phone was answered by the school owner, who I was already familiar with since I had spent so much time on their website the last couple of days. When I informed Brenda I was calling to inquire if the dojo had belt testing fees, and instead of a direct answer I was met with a cold… “umm who are you?” I informed Brenda that I was a local who has decided to take up martial arts and I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of dojos and I’m just calling to see if there’s any testing fees for belt exams, because that would help me in deciding where I want to invest my time and money. When I informed the school owner of this, she essentially informed me that she isn’t going to go into the fees regarding belt exams with just anybody. I advise all potential customers to do your due diligence to avoid hidden fees and predatory business practices like this. It’s unfortunate that this came from the school owner, however if this is the decorum and attitude of the dojo owner, then I do not want to learn anything from her, and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth for the whole system. Very unfortunate. Less
