I have been training BJJ for over 10 years and have recently discovered this gym to be the most fun and welcoming group I have encountered. Awesome facility with nice details and well maintained. The professors are absolutely dope. Awesome group of folks with solid skills to share and learn from. It is also a great source for top-quality gear. Highly recommend.

The Tried & True mats have the perfect balance of fun rolling and high resistance presser testing. Coming in as a total beginner (almost 2 years ago), the atmosphere was welcoming and I was given a great base to build on. Professors Brad and Emily offer awesome in depth lessons and breakdowns. I can't recommend this place enough!

Emily & Brad at Tried & True are 2nd to none! This is an outstanding environment with folks from all demographics, equally welcome and challenged to their appropriate level. From my experience, there’s really only one rule - no jerks allowed. I’ve visited many BJJ gyms throughout North America travelling frequently the last 6 years and this is one of the finest. Whether you are just dropping in or looking for longer term home, you will only be better because of the time you spend here.

I tried this gym while traveling to Calgary for work one week. (I’ve been training for years in Tulsa at Primate.) The coach Brad is excellent, and everyone was extremely welcoming. I would recommend this to anyone, from novices to more experienced practitioners, and I look forward to training with this group again!

I'm in my 50s and have been with the club for 5 years. It's a fantastic community without any douchebags. Emily and Brad are conscientious, classy and very skilled at instructing. Lots of people to roll with at all levels of skill and intensity. Also, it's clean.

When I moved to town, Tried & True was recommended to me not only for the environment, but for the technique as well. Joining this gym was the best choice I could have made. It has a wonderful community, and everyone is always welcome. 10/10. Would train here again. Do still train here.

There’s a fantastic sense of community here, and it’s clear that everyone is genuinely supportive of each other. Tried and True Jiu Jitsu is AMAZING. If you are looking for amazing Jiu Jitsu with an overwhelmingly positive culture and vibe, look no further. What started off as a place for myself to train once or twice a week, has grown to become my family's second home [myself, my wife and my daughter are there 4 to 6 times per week now!] and I would not have it any other way.Academy Owners: I cannot say enough nice things about Professor Emily and Professor Brad. Overall amazing human beings, amazing Jiu Jitsu instructors, and amazing Jiu Jitsu practitioners. You are not going to find two more amazing human beings running a Jiu Jitsu academy.Facilities: Top notch and amazing. Always enough parking. Nice lounge area. Ample facilities including private bathrooms & large change rooms. Lots of space to chill [off the matted space] between rounds or if you are a spectator. Amazing large mat space with a LEGIT sprung floor! Top of the line grappling mats, & top of the line wall mats. Like heaven to roll on! Most importantly, it is CLEAN and scrubbed down daily!Instruction and Class structure: top notch and high level. Caters to everyone. Frequently run “Intro” classes. Regularly scheduled classes are accessible to beginners, so regardless of what class you go to, rest assured you will be well taken care of [you will not be thrown into the proverbial deep end to fend for yourself]. Fundamentals, intermediate and advanced level teaching. Dedicated fundamentals classes are attended by all skill levels. Regular scheduled classes are tailored to those in attendance. Instructors are able to teach to multiple skill levels in the room and ensure that everyone gets something out of class regardless of experience. Class structure focuses on teaching with lots of time for questions, reps [technique without resistance], drilling [working on a technique with resistance] and troubleshooting. Class is handled by instructors that take care of you, meet you where you are at, and just want to help you succeed at Jiu Jitsu. Appropriate amount of time is allotted for drilling to help expedite the learning process. After class [typically about an hour] there is ALWAYS time for rolling. You can roll as much or as little as you want. If you are not up for rolling on a given day, all good! You want to do a couple rounds of drilling and a couple of rounds rolling, all good! If you want to get 8 hard rounds in for competition preparation, all good! Whatever your goal for the day, Tried & True Jiu Jitsu has got you covered! Most importantly, Tried & True Jiu Jitsu fosters a SAFE training environment. You do not have to worry about people cranking submissions or trying to hurt you. I do not know about you, but I have to work the next day, so it is amazing to be able to get some hard competitive rolls in, but still be able to get out of bed and go to work the next morning. Every belt color of belt with various levels of experience are represented on the mat. I've been training here since almost their beginning and have enjoyed it immensely. It is inclusive to whatever level of BJJ you are looking for and they take the time to help you along your journey as an individual. I'm a gearhead mechanic type that would loose my income if I got seriously injured but aside from the normal bumps and bruises that happen along the way, I have been able to train hard and still make it to work. If you are new to BJJ I can't recommend this team enough and if you are a long time roller, get in here.

Best gym in Calgary, hands down. I started training here last year. I was looking for a gym offering women’s classes as it’s important for me to have people my size to roll with and emailed them as I noticed they had women’s only on Wednesdays. I knew it was the right gym when I was told they’re not running that class anymore, because there are always plenty of women in every class. Awesome vibes, good laughs, amazing coaches, supportive team, made friends from all walks of life. I always feel safe to roll with everyone, even with the biggest guys, as a smaller, female white belt. No pressure to compete, but if you want to, you’ll get solid support and great energy from the coaches and the team in tournaments too. Worth noting this is a more “mature” gym - most people are blue belt up (including the women) and white belts tend to stick around, unlike many gyms where you’ll see masses of white belts coming and going and quitting after a few months. If you’re shopping around for a BJJ gym, make sure to try a class here .

Hands down the best jiu-jitsu training experience I've ever had. T&t is a very welcoming community where I feel comfortable being myself. I know I can always come in here and get solid rounds with some excellent training partners. Coach Emily and Brad both give comprehensive instruction for both gi and no-gi and I always love having the opportunity to pick their minds about anything I might have questions about. This is an easy 5 stars and I would highly recommend this gym to anyone whether they're experienced or brand new to the sport.
