First time at Lake Mead to kayak and couldn't ask for a better tour guide in Ian. He made sure everyone in our group was comfortable. What I loved was that he made sure to converse individually with those in our group. It was obvious to me that he loves being a guide and is passionate in creating a good and informative excursion. Emerald Cave was a highlight. When a boat went by there with its motors still running, Ian stepped into action to tell the driver to shut its engines off! AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Our family spent a week in the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas for our daughter's 25th birthday and this was for sure one of the highlights of our trip. 8am is definitely the best time to go, there is still plenty of light to see the green water. Plus, no crowds! Was a really great experience. What a beautiful trip! To be honest, I was a bit nervous not knowing exactly what to expect. But my anxiety was quickly diminished once we got in the water. First of all, pack these must haves- water, sunscreen , hat, water shoes, spf shirt, and sunglasses with strap! You could even get a “dry bag” for your phones and keys. Second, Ian our guide, was awesome! He made me feel that safety was a huge priority along with having a good time. He was super knowledgeable about the area and I felt so lucky to be able to experience parts of the river and desert that I wouldn’t be able to on my own. Highly recommend the Emerald Caves kayaking tour. Our group went at the end of May at the 8 am slot. It’s early but worth it because we were some of the only people on the lake (compared to when we ended around 11:30 and it started to become overrun with people). We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed the short walking break toward the end of the tour. Ian is an exceptional guide. Very personable and keeps his groups small so that he can actually get to know you on an individual basis. He keeps the tour at a leisurely pace and is enthusiastic to share his knowledge about the area. You can tell that he genuinely enjoys what he does. He had snacks for everyone and took pictures along the way. At the end of the tour, he will send you the pictures for no extra charge which a nice surprise. Took the Emerald Cove Kayak 8 am tour and had an incredible time. I was the only person that booked this day, and Ian was still willing to complete the tour without charging me extra. Everything was well organized, timely, good quality and easy to use kayaks, a nice snack, and Ian provided me helpful recommendations for improving my kayaking abilities that I was able to implement and practice during our experience. I left feeling a more confident kayaker, which I had not experienced on other kayaking tours. Ian is professional yet super personable and easy to talk to. It honestly felt like I was hanging out with a friend. I loved that we left so early because it allowed us to beat the crowds of kayakers from other tours and have the lake pretty much to ourselves. The entire lake was emerald green and so clear!! I also enjoyed our nature walk where he shared his knowledge of the local plants and history of the lake itself. My cousin and I did a emerald cave kayaking tour with KAYAK Lake Mead tour company and it was absolutely fabulous. The water was clear and the weather was absolutely perfect that day but what really made the tour most memorable was our amazing guide and owner of the company Ian! We were able to paddle around the lake to Emerald Cave where he took many pictures of the group and individuals. 6 stars! We did the whole dam tour and what a cool way to see the Hoover Dam! The gear was in great condition (comfy seats). I loved that we could get single or double kayaks (some tours only have doubles). The hot springs were lovely and the hike was short but pretty. We saw the large groups with other companies and it was so nice to be in a small group where you could be more flexible (we spent over an hour at the hot spring, skip emerald cave, paddle fast to get home). Guide is super knowledgeable and makes the tour fun. I also had no qualms about our safety. PRO TIP: go on a day when motor-craft are not allowed. Less
