The Strength Revolution Gym, owned by brothers Paul and Dan D’Arco is a Personal Training and Open Gym facility located in Shorewood, Illinois in the Jewel Osco shopping plaza. They and their team specifically program work-outs for their clients that are designed for their unique goals while focusing on injury prevention. The Strength Revolution does not host group classes. I used to love group classes, but the more and more I work with my Trainer, Paul, the more I discover how group classes were more of a hindrance than an asset. They are fine as an addition to your workout program, but I learned that you cannot focus your entire fitness plan on group classes alone. Many gyms that have group programs, and their workouts are centered towards the general population, so there’s no real progression. Also, many of those facilities allow so many participants in their classes that the instructor would not be able to address individuals experiencing issues or challenges with any of the specific movements, or the workout as a whole. So many people with difficulties get lost in the process leaving a lot of room for injuries to occur. The Strength Revolution has worked with me from Day 1. My trainer took the time to learn my personal fitness goals and created an individual based program just for me. He works with me to monitor my progress while teaching me how to keep advancing as I continue to move forward or if my fitness goals change. Paul also is very knowledgeable on injury prevention. Having a history of shoulder problems and a hip impingement, he has taught me warmup exercises and stretches to help in my heavy movements like squats, deadlifts and presses be more effective and without any discomfort or pain. He passes this knowledge onto his team as well so they can take that information and use it to help their clients. The whole team at The Strength Revolution in Shorewood are absolutely amazing. They are extremely knowledgeable about fitness and fitness programming all while helping clients like me avoid injury during training. I highly recommend Strengthen Revolution for anyone looking to progress in their fitness training, whether you’re a beginner or been working out for decades. Less

His understanding of science I would call it, is very informative and helps understand the why of things. His approach to training focuses on the correct position and form from mobility to exercises. It’s way more than a program of exercises to follow, he coaches you to get the most out of yourself. I had a few areas of pain that sometimes limits me and he had immediate thoughts on corrective actions. And I was actually impressed of the almost immediate results. When we started, my daughter was “injured“ and an orthopedic had determined that she had a torn ligament. Another specialist told us that she had a “leg length difference”. Both of which were false, but she missed an entire season of cross country due to the misdiagnosis. After seeing Paul for one session, my daughter was out of pain. He quickly identified the weak muscles that caused the issue to begin with. He’s been working with her to improve muscle strength and change her running form so that future injuries don’t occur. He’s quite literally a wizard! The knowledge he has about the muscles in the body is amazing! He teaches us something new every week. He goes out of his way to help and checks in on us between sessions. In a way, he’s also become part of our family! I couldn’t recommend him more! Less

I have worked with many personal trainers in the last 15+ years. A lot of them, all they do is push, push, push their clients without consideration of what negative effects it is doing to their body. From knee, hip and shoulder movements that will eventually cause bigger issues later. These guys know that fitness is more than what Instagram and Tik Tok show us. They teach their clients the aspects of fitness that the big box gyms do not even approach. Functional fitness! Fitness that helps with day-to-day activities or helps us be active without pain. I have been an active person on a daily basis, so not moving and being busy is not an option for me. I started being really serious about the exercise during a COVID-19 quarantine because I finally had a lot of extra time. Every day since then, I have continued to be determined and dedicated to the exercise. It is very important for me to be healthy and active while I change my physical appearance. It takes a great deal of work, but it's worth it. For the most part, I have been training well at home using available sources and equipment. I learned about micros, diets, Cal and all those “funny”things. It paid off, but then I got to the point of Plato and everything I tried didn't work for my betterment. That's why I decided to bring up a pro coach. Some say you can handle yourself. To tell the truth, we all need guidance and insight from someone who understands the entire concept. I saw a post about Rise Above Fitness in Shorewood, IL and decided right away to give a try. With such excitement, I immediately sent a message to the business and received a response immediately. They asked me a few questions and scheduled a free consultation so that they could learn about me and my goals. The next day, I went to speak to the representative, and I was very happy because she listened to what I had to say. After a long conversation, she paired me up with a coach who, in her opinion, would be the best match for me. I have Paul, who is also the founder and owner of the venue. Paul, my coach is listening and giving me directions. I feel good knowing I can tell him what I'm looking for, and he's telling me the truth honestly. No sugar coating, only honest responses. First, let me start by saying going to the gym is not my favorite thing. After my Son was born 4yrs ago I got away from the boring repetitive gym routine of doing various machines and then jumping on the elliptical 3 to 4 times a week. After that I mostly kept my fitness level by running a couple times a week. My wife tried a class with Paul and highly suggested we go together on Saturdays. So I decided to give it a whirl. This gym introduced me to team training, something I had never done before. They introduced me to things I had never trained with like kettle bells, steel maces, and battle ropes. I thought I was in ok shape prior to going with my wife to my first class. Since my primary fitness level only included running at that point, I had no Idea that the rest of my body was in bad shape after struggling through my first class. What I wasn’t expecting was such a great environment. I as struggled through my first class, I got high fives, cheers, and was surrounded by people who not only liked being there but wanted to there. The trainer was great as well. He showed me proper form and technique to not only get the most out of workout but also how not injury myself so I can enjoy the workout. I never thought I would use the word “enjoy” when talking about a workout. This gym was so different from anything else I had ever done before and I actually enjoyed their workout. After my first class the trainer Dan asked me what my goal would be if I signed up and trained with them. Me only running for the last 3 yrs thought, Hey I would like to be faster when I do 5ks. I previously had done no cross training which everyone in the running community told me was important, but I ignored. I enjoyed the class so much I thought, sure why not if it can help me be a little faster lets give it a whirl. So I started late summer going 3 times a week. The atmosphere in classes really helped me feel motivated and really made me look forward to coming back every session. Before I knew it, fall started to roll around. I really got into a grove learning proper form and movements and was starting to move up in the weights I could handle at the gym. Then I though why not give my next 5k a good hard solid effort and see how much progress I made with cross training for my runs. Race day came and I gave it a good solid effort. I put in the same effort I did before working out Rise Above. But what I wasn’t expecting was finishing with a great new PR. Not just a little PR(personal Record) bump but a full minute improvement of my PR! Paul and Dan really showed me the importance of cross training and it paid off for me big time. I can honestly say I am now in the best overall shape I have ever been. I don’t think that would ever had happen for me if I dint find a gym, I look forward going to each week. So, if you are looking a gym unlike anything else you have tried, I highly recommended Rise Above. They will not only teach you proper technique but help you train safely so you can meet whatever goals you are trying to reach from weight loss, to toning up, or just trying excel at a sports you love.
