Nixa is a perfect fit for our family! The instructors have very high expectations and they create an environment where students want to be and are successful. I always thought of martial arts as an individual pursuit, but at Nixa every student is invested in the success of everyone else. Seeing kids cheering, and chanting, and crossing their fingers for their friends' Tae Kwon Do success is more investment in the team than I've seen in any sport, including more traditional team sports. My daughter had such a positive experience working toward her first belt, that when she asked me to join with her it was an easy decision. I've had a great time learning new skills and building camaraderie among they other adults in class. Excellent!!!! In every way. My son Andrew is 6 and had a few behavioral issues. Just 2 months into him joinging Nina under Master Yu and Master Yumbe, his attitude has changed, his respect, demeanor, and confidance all have sky rocketed. NIXA is not a playground or daycare center. The masters are passionate about martial arts, and expect the students to put in 100% effort each class, AND practice at home. More class time is spent on physical conditioning and technique than on basic forms. The energy level is off the charts, making each class fun and encouraging students to work harder. TKD indicates many different things to many different people. Although it loosely translates as the way of the hand and the foot, it combines training of the whole body with training of the mind. I love TKD because it offers a fantastic physical workout while challenging me to improve my mental focus and concentration. I believe that TKD has allowed me to achieve greater success as a professor and researcher because of this cognitive training. Master Yu does an excellent job of combining love, patience and discipline. The kids positively beam when learning from him. He teaches them self-confidence, respect for family, compassion and self-control. My son has practiced TKD for two years since he was 4 years old and he has had 4-5 different masters, but Master Yu is by far the best. I'm glad he finally opened his own studio; I just wish it were closer to where we live. Ladera Ranch - you are very lucky to have NIXA in your neighborhood. Less
