#MANTISSACOLLEGE It was a pleasant learning experience to take a module in Operations Management OPS600 with Mantissa college. under the tutorship of their highly experienced lecturers . The most important thing i learnt about Operations Management and supply chain is that; Operations Management, according to professor Gopesh Anand and Udatta Palekar , is about organizations effectively and efficiently using their resources and activities to transform materials and information into goods and services for customers. The subject impacted the following areas in the production process; product design, assembly, supplier selection, employee trained, sales outlets, troubleshooting support and disposal. Operations Management and supply chain is concerned with the product design in order to meet the customers satisfaction. Every production must aim at bringing satisfaction to the customer. It must be customer centered if it is to contribute towards profitability of the organization. In the production process, the input, the processing and the output must align towards the satisfaction of the target customer. The input determines the output. The choice of the supplier is also very important in operation management and supply chain. The supplier chosen must be the one whose supplies are the best to produce the required product. For example, a chocolate manufacture will not choose to buy milk from the supplier who is known for selling milk diluted with water. This will compromise quality. During the course of the study, I also learnt that the human resources is also an area of concern. The employees must be trained for both goods and services production. The sales outlets and the troubleshooting support (back up services) are part of marketing and important facets in the operations management. The module is an essential to all types of management especially those at higher levels. Senior management can easily understand all areas of operations such as finance, marketing and human resources through this study. Less
