I wanted to write this review to express my gratitude and satisfaction with the work done in my time working with Soma Vita. I am a 36 year old man recently diagnosed with interstitial cystitis who had pelvic floor physical therapy suggested by the urologist as intervention through medication had essentially reached its limit without causing more problems than it would fix. I remained active and did cardio and weightlifting as a suggestion this could help, but it was still difficult to maintain this with occasional painful bladder issues and the need to urinate frequently during exercise.During my last urology appointment, the doctor suggested trying pelvic floor physical therapy. Based on my pain levels I was long overdue to see someone about this, because I was still experiencing regular frequent urinary urgency, deep hip and sciatic pain, and general unpleasant pains in my pelvic region. This year during a move I experienced a hernia and required surgery, and thought this may resolve these issues but unfortunately they were unrelated. I clearly needed some assistance with the strengthening and functionality of many of my muscular groups.Unfortunately when this was suggested, I couldn’t find a clinic within quite a distance that also regularly worked with male patients, as this has been (from what I understand) a post partum-focused need for some time. initially found this clinic through Google looking for a pelvic floor therapist nearby that worked with male patients and decided to give it a shot and see if it improved my situation. And it truly changed everything for me.From the intake call, to the regular appointments and discussions, the doctor I work with, Dr. Lauren Scully, has been wonderful. Pelvic floor physical therapy does include both internal and external work and never once did I feel discomfort, judgement, or embarrassment. Her professionalism and bedside manner are above and beyond, as well as her extensive medical knowledge of anatomy and muscle systems. Explanations were clear and understandable, never did I feel like I was being given too much or not enough information, and it was delivered clearly and gave me the confidence to learn more about it myself. I was skeptical going in but I’m a skeptic no longer. From tissue/fascia work and true muscular exercises engaging with the muscles supporting the pelvic floor, to relaxation and re-functionalization of the pelvic floor muscles themselves, I can honestly say it has been a night and day difference from a few months ago. My urinary urgency is almost gone, my hip and sciatic pain has dissipated, and I’m sleeping through the night (another huge issue of mine)! I genuinely feel like the tools I’ve been given have given me a handle on my own body in a way I can’t believe most of the time. It’s changed my life and I’m not just saying that. I slept through the night entirely last night (July 5th-6th) without waking up to urinate or waking up in pain for the first time in YEARS. I cannot express how much of a rarity this is and I cannot express enough gratitude for getting this vital piece of my life back.I’ve mentally checked out of multiple vacations and long trips because of these pains and problems, and it scared me from going away because my bathroom needs along with my aches and pains obviously always just be a hindrance. I don’t feel that way anymore. I can relax again. I haven’t been able to sit around and just relax in forever. Additionally, I am a drummer, and have recently been playing in groups again. My footwork and bass pedal playing has improved through new focus on hip abductors and adductors, gluteal stretches, and posture. Happy side effect! If you have any issues with this sort of thing, or you’ve felt like you’re at the end of your rope, please please give Soma Vita a call. Do the work, do the homework, actively engage, and I promise you that the investment you and Soma Vita put in WILL pay off.
