The Roost CrossFit

I found The Roost CrossFit when I was four months postpartum. I was looking for a gym with childcare because I knew I needed movement for my mental health—but I had no idea I would also find such a community. My husband, baby, and I first stopped by to watch a class and met Coach Michelle. She was genuinely excited to welcome us, told me about the women’s class, and explained that they would do whatever they could to help me work out with my baby—even outside childcare hours, when they could create a safe, designated area for him nearby. At The Roost, you are always seen and welcomed. People tell you they’re happy you came in, which is probably everything a postpartum mom needs to hear. In less than a year, the coaches and members have watched my little guy grow and have truly enjoyed having him there. I still remember being surrounded by members oohing and aahing over him—it was one of the sweetest moments because as mom you want to be seen but more than anything you want your child to feel seen and he is even when he's not there people are asking how he is. If you understand the toll postpartum can take, you know how much that sense of belonging means during such a challenging and unfamiliar season of life. There have been days when my son didn’t want to stay in the childcare room, and I assumed I would just have to sit out and watch the class. Instead, the owners have held him so I could work out. I could hear him giggling and having fun with the Owners Susie and Jay, and although I felt bad because they have a class to run, they never made me feel like a burden or as though I should leave. The gym is under new ownership with Susie and Jay, and while it was already a great place, I’ve watched it become even more alive with more resources for members. The owners communicate regularly, organize events for members, keep both the gym and childcare room clean, and support everyone—regardless of fitness level.I never imagined I would walk into a CrossFit gym, especially at only four months postpartum. Now, if I post an Instagram story about struggling with a movement, I receive messages from coaches and members offering to help the next time I come in. You do not get that at a typical gym. I doubt you get any of the things I listed in a regular gym.The Roost has given me far more than a place to exercise. It has given me encouragement, support, and a community during a time when I needed all of those things most. I’m incredibly grateful that we found the roost and I can't thank the roost enough for what it's provided.
