I was skeptical that I'd be able to find a gym with a community as strong as the one I had left after moving, but from the start, Ben and the other Blackwolf coaches (Ricardo, Nicole, Drew and Val) made me feel like I had been coming for years. This box is one of the more friendlier boxes in Houston in my opinion and they are always super helpful and knowledgeable when you need to modify a workout they are always happy to help and are big on teaching you proper techniques so that you don’t injure yourself during the workout. My partner and I sent an exploratory Instagram DM late Sunday night (9:00 PM) with the assumption that we wouldn't get a response for a couple of days, if any. Well, we received a response within 5 minutes and that started our journey with Black Wolf.We had the assumption that Crossfit gyms weren't accepting of people of different skill levels and that members are intimidating. I am happy to report that is not the case at Black Wolf. We were complete novices to these styles of workouts and can attest that all of the instructors take that into account in every movement in workouts. Black Wolf is great. I was never comfortable with gyms or group fitness (partly because of stereotypes I had in my head, and partly from concern of being the one person who didn't know what to do), but the team here makes every session a positive one. Workouts are varied, with scaled alternative options depending on capability. And importantly for me, only concern that you do the best you can at that time - not to overdo things for the sake of it.Even more valuable is the community feel Ben has built. The other athletes, and all the coaches, are extremely friendly and there is an active effort to maintain the feel with regular social gatherings away from the box.After initially "encouraging" me to try Black Wolf against some resistance, my wife is now mad I've stolen her hobby and am attending more often than she is :D Less

I've been a member for the past 7 years. I've been to a bunch of other gyms. Ben always maintains the equipment, work outs, coaches, gym members and environment at a high level. As of December 2019, I started my journey to a healthier and stronger self. The journey has not been easy between diet changes, kids, work and making time to workout, but, the wonderful coaches at Black Wolf have been a tremendous help in making it possible. I seriously love this gym. I joined the CrossFit community in 2014 and have been to many gyms all around Houston (6 months on and off) I would just get unmotivated and bored of the workouts. To me a lot of them were based around “too much of the CROSSFIT workouts” instead of actual programming for competitors, which once an athlete always an athlete but I’m not getting any younger. Looking for longevity and quality! I was looking for a well rounded fitness program that I can do for a long period of time. Ben, the owner, has some of the best programming I’ve done! Never an athlete but always a spectator I started Crossfitting in 2012 and was in the best shape of my entire life. For personal reasons I was at only 60% of my potential from 2015 until 2017 and while pregnant my only form of exercise was walking. Now that my son is six months I have no excuses for not coming back to CF, but I have to admit it is a bit daunting being the new kid at the box. With that said though from my first day EVERYONE has been very welcoming. The coaches greet you by name as you walk through the door; the members encourage one another during the WOD; and, from what I have seen so far, the group wholeheartedly gives back to the community. I have been a member of Black Wolf for almost one year now. All I can say is this- my decision to join Black Wolf after my one week trial has been one of the best decisions I have made in some time. The coaching is tremendous. The coaches know each and every one of us in the gym- strengths, weaknesses, areas for improvement, etc. They also know everyone’s name! They greet you as you walk in the gym, acknowledge your efforts during the workout, and make sure to send you parting words as you leave for the day. I have never felt so welcome. Another thing you will notice during your very first workout is that the coaches are very thorough in their explanation, instruction, and critique. They observe your form and function with a keen eye not only to challenge the athlete to push himself/herself, but also to insure that the work and movement is done safely. I never thought I would be able to do some of the things I can now do thanks to the attention to detail and direction by the coaching staff. In addition to the coaches, the fellow athletes are amazing. Whether you attend at 5am or 4:30pm, there is sure to be an incredible group of athletes that are truly there for one reason, to be better. I started my one week free trial at Black Wolf CF exactly one year ago. I drank the kool-aid and I've been committed ever since. My first day I couldn't do a single sit up and had to use my elbows to get my body up to a sitting position. The first week was hard, I struggled and questioned my sanity but I liked it. I liked having something programmed, I liked having other people around me, I liked feeling the pain in my muscles knowing that they were finally doing work, and I mostly enjoyed not being looked down on for my pitiful physical performances day in and day out. When I would finally get a movement right, it felt amazing. I went to a nutrition class hosted by Coach Ben and it made all the difference in terms of what my body was consuming. Coach Oralia has personally guided me through my nutrition journey and I have lost 50 lbs with a mixture of good nutrition and crossfit classes. This place is awesome! I used to go to a different box where the coaches were nice but they never knew my name. Here Ben knows my name and so do all the other coaches. They make everyone feel welcomed no matter your skill level. I'm usually one of the slowest and last to finish but coaches and other members still cheers me on.
