We recently had New Garden completely renovate our side yard. They had to grade and level the yard prior to putting in pavers. They were meticulous in determining how the yard would drain. We are in the midst of a multi-phase landscaping project on our property in Kernersville. Designer Jeanine Bennett crafted an amazing “xeriscape” plan that is transforming our lawn into something truly original and remarkable. Xavier and crew completed phase 1 in June and did an amazing job. Phase 2 was completed last week by one of their Winston-Salem crews, consisting of Scott and Charles. Scott and Charles were exceptional, especially given all of the very large, buried tree roots they had to remove before planting in the portion of the property they worked on. They were professional, very courteous, and extremely generous with their knowledge. Scott spent considerable time educating us and answering our many questions, as well as giving us simple and detailed instructions on the care of what they had planted for us. We relocated to the area this past summer. Our new home’s landscaping left much to be desired with massive overgrown bushes that only the wasps enjoyed. We chose to contact New Garden due to their history as a company- family founded with massive retention rates with employees. Jeanine from the New Garden team was our first contact, and she responded almost immediately to our email and we had a consultation scheduled within a few days. I can be difficult to nail down on these types of projects because I don’t know the language or the possibilities…I usually end up making overly demonstrative gestures while saying useless things like “you know, sort of these thingies” to describe what I like/what I want. Somehow though, Jeanine figured me out and would say, “yes, movement, yes drawing the eye upward, yes balance on both sides.” When she left my husband said “ah, she speaks Kate.” She created an amazing plan, which had everything I could never describe but always wanted. The end result is breath-taking, and even in early stages there hasn’t been a person who came by who didn’t comment on the beauty of it all. Jose lead the installation of Jeanine’s design with Luis’ help- they were absolutely amazing as well- punctual, reliable, respectful, and beyond talented. Jose hand set every stone we have which was incredible. But I’m still not done. We have the maintenance team as well, lead by Isidro, and they are just as excellent as everyone else. His crew is timely, does excellent work on a large property, clearly are knowledgeable, and take pride in their work. New Garden also contracts with other professionals who have been fabulous to us as well- especially Marlon for demo work. First I'd like to say I found Tripp to be very knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed conversing with him during the process. They also fit me in fairly quickly on the schedule. I had a "get well" plan for 3 large garden bed areas and some trees. We discussed permanent mulch and he advised they don't do rubber mulch and recommended pine straw. I said this was fine. The total job cost about $5k which I found to be very reasonable. I'm unsure where there miscommunication occurred, but it happened at some point because no landscaping paper was installed in the beds. Tripp told me I would have to do some "weeding" and I acknowledged that was understood because one of the garden beds had landscaping paper installed by me and my boyfriend and we have what I consider to be a "normal" amount of weeding in that bed. However, the picture I've enclosed is what I've had to pull over the last 3 days, and I do not honestly consider this to be "weeding". This is grass. I was very surprised and honestly disappointed to find they didn't put down landscaping paper when cleaning out the beds. I'm not sure if it common practice not to do this, but I feel given I informed them of the minimal amount of time I wanted to put in maintaining it and the discussion of "permanent mulching" these would be a tip off to install this. Especially given they saw the other bed had this paper installed already. I called when the grass started popping up, and they responded quickly to spray but it honestly didn't put a dent in it. Now we are going to have to spend the time installing the paper ourselves to keep from dealing with this level of maintenance every year. Less

Tripp Vockel and his team are truly customer centered. They listened to our wants/wishes and created a landscaping plan far beyond our visions. We initially described some low maintenance flowers and plants, a place for my BBQ grill and turkey fryer; and a retention wall to help resolve a water runoff issue flooding our driveway. What he presented to us surpassed our every expectation! Every job starts with a description of the project and what to expect. We had an opportunity to review and modify the work before it was completed and a personal review with Tripp after completing each phase and before starting a new one. Every employee that worked on our project deserves praise but, Bernardino Reyes, Julio Sorto, Javier Dominguez, Oscar Dominguez, and Luis Duarte are a complete package. They are highly skilled in their planning of each phase of this project; they are meticulous in their execution, and work painstakingly towards completion. This is our second landscaping project with New Garden Landscaping. Our first was to correct a major drainage issue in our back yard. The project was engineered perfectly, and the new design is also beautiful. Every piece was on time and above expectations, and communication was constant. Our second job was much less involved, at least in our minds, just replacing pine needles with pine bark mulch. The New Garden team not only cleaned out the pine needles, they cleaned out all the yard debris, blew leaves and gumballs from the entire yard, trimmed up the dormant plants, and topped off the mulch in the beds they created last fall. After a long series of surprises with underperforming contractors, working with Tripp and his team was a joy from start to finish. I would not hesitate to call them for any landscaping needs. We used New Garden for moving an outdoor water faucet that was in the middle of our patio. It was a challenge since the patio was brick. We did not know where the main pipe was. Jose was scheduled to arrive at 8:30am. He arrived on time and looked at the issue and explained this may not be an easy task. So the water faucet connected to our irrigation had to be moved from that location. Jose was super encouraging. The faucet was about 2 ft down and set in concrete . He succeeded in getting the faucet moved and had to relocate the faucet. All required a lot of work, going thru rock. Jose remained so nice and continued to work so hard. He moved the faucet, replaced the dirt, tapped it down. Had to dig thru more rock to move the faucet in the new location. All successfully completed. Daniel arrived to help with the digging. Evan Williams gave such a good talk on Fall Gardening yesterday! The focus was on edible plants. He started with the average first frost date, but said it in a more relatable and understandable way. He covered brassicas, root crops, herbs, and others. He had a lovely handout for the brassica family! And gave a knowledgeable description of many plants. Cultivation, edible uses, and funny anecdotes from his own experience. Where he didn’t have experience with a plant or hadn’t had success with it (I’m with you on Brussels sprouts!), he’d mention that briefly and move on. Participants were really engaged. We had so many questions. He got into soil health, different approaches to a range of activities including getting your garden ready for the winter or spring, attracting pollinators, starting seeds. This was a great talk! Employees at this garden center are consistently friendly and knowledgeable, and this speaker really showed those things and more. These guys have a decent selection of common houseplants and well priced pots and such. The plants were all healthy and well cared for. Unfortunately the majority of their stock is priced much higher than the same (and often fuller/larger) plants are elsewhere. Some plants were as much as 3-5x more expensive. I am a houseplant addict and love shopping at and supporting local businesses. But I just can’t justify spending that much more than what I would at other local nurseries. Very disappointed. 😕 Less

I hired New Garden with great reservation because they are quite expensive. However, I'm THRILLED that I did, am telling everyone I know to hire them for landscaping and design work, and am convinced I would never have had the quality and success with anyone else. Steve Wyndham came to our home to discuss our thoughts and goals for quite a large project. He came back a week later with detailed blue prints and plant photos to see how his vision matched ours. Alterations were never a big deal - his goal was to make us, his client, perfectly happy. Their crew has been in our yard for a month and I will miss them when they're gone. They're hard working, skilled, and fun friendly people to work with every single day. I've been completely blown away day after day by the devotion and dedication they display with everything from tearing out what was there to installing new hardscape and plantings. They've also been quite instructive as to how I should care for everything new going forward. There is nothing I would have changed about this experience. I could have redone my yard for less money, but I received all the quality, skill and expertise I paid for. The value has surpassed the cost.
