West Coast Jiu Jitsu

West Coast Jiu Jitsu changed our son Logan’s life. No exaggeration. The first time we brought him in, he was 5 and wouldn’t even look at the mat. He was nervous, overwhelmed, and we just went home. A year later, I bribed him with Pokémon cards just to get him out on the mat. Best bribe of my life.Fast forward 2.5 years and the kid is a machine. He trains 4 times a week, competes, works hard, listens better, handles losing like a true champ, keeps his hands to himself, and has learned how to push through hard things instead of quitting. He came in needing focus, confidence, discipline, and a place to burn off all that wild kid energy. He got all of that and way more, including incredible friendships. He’s now competed in 10+ tournaments and won a bunch of medals, including 5 golds. That part is awesome. But the real win is who he’s become. He’s stronger, tougher, kinder, more respectful, and more resilient. Jiu jitsu gave him confidence, but West Coast gave him character. Coach Rafa, Sarah, Felipe, Jake, and the whole team are incredible. They know exactly how to run a room full of kids. It’s fun, loud, intense, and disciplined all at the same time. They don’t baby the kids. They don’t let them slide. They push them, hold them accountable, and somehow the kids love them for it. The coaches demand respect, and the kids actually give it.We’ve watched them do this with so many kids and adults over the last few years. Parents come in for the same reasons we did: focus, confidence, self-control, attitude, energy. Then you watch the kids change right in front of you. And the team wins. From kids to adults, West Coast shows up and handles business. But what makes this place special is bigger than medals. It’s the discipline, confidence, friendships, toughness, and community that come with it. Terrific group of humans. We spend 5+ hours a week sitting by the mat, and honestly, we love it. The parents are awesome, the vibe is great, and it feels like we found a second family by accident. Can’t say enough good things about West Coast. Logan walked in scared to look at the mat. Now he walks on like he belongs there. 10/10 would recommend!
