We are very pleased with the training our puppy received at Advanced Canine Development. Not only did Mark and his team train Charlie in manners but since we sometimes travel for business we board him with ACD and it’s such a relief to know he’s in excellent hands while we’re away. We get daily pictures and amusing videos so we don’t feel as if we’re missing out. When we drop Charlie off for visits he’s off and running to the ACD crew and doesn’t even look back which is seriously comforting. She treats all the dogs she works with like they were her own. You can tell she cares, she explains everything and sets you and your fur baby for success as long as your willing to continue reinforcing what they have learned. They also have Saturday morning outings where we all meet with our fur babies and take a group walk together. My dog struggled with stranger danger. I couldn’t take her out anywhere with out her barking at everyone. Mark and the girls have had her 1 week at their board and train program and she’s a brand new dog!!!! I can’t wait for her to be back home so I can continue her training! I cannot say enough good things about Advanced K9. Mark, Olivia, and the whole team worked so well with my standard poodle, taught my household along the way (us humans really are the main problem!), and even when our two week board and train program was finished we stayed in touch for fine tuning. At first we were recommended to the facility by two of our friends, but couldn't quite justify the price at the time. However!! Getting our pup trained during his most formative years has turned out to be the best pet decision we ever made and worth every penny. Our dog can be pretty high energy and excitable, and it's like they found his volume button and turned it down. When he wasn't quite responding the same way to us as we saw in the daily videos Olivia and Mark would send, they were extremely responsive and had us stop by the following day to diagnose the issue. Like I said before, us humans usually are to blame for our dogs' misbehavior, so they are also teaching need how to lead my dog. I've gotten so many compliments on my dog since bringing him home, everyone from strangers to people that knew him prior to the training program and recognize the difference. 10/10 recommendation! We sought out training with Advanced Canine Development after completing a 10-week program with another trainer and being concerned with the negative effects that the punitive techniques had on our dog Mazie. At Advanced Canine Development, Mark the owner, conducted a thorough evaluation of Mazie while inquiring of the goals that we wanted to achieve. We wanted to have a happy dog that we could take on walks out in the world and use the obedience lessons that she previously learned, without using punitive or negative punishment. In addition, we wanted to address separation anxiety that Mazie had. It was Mark’s recommendation that we enroll Mazie in the 2-week board and train program. Olivia, the dog Guru, was assigned to Mazie. From the start, Olivia was excellent at focusing in on what change we desired and devised a customized program to make it happen. She diligently worked with Mazie to overcome undesirable behaviors and incorporated a personalized plan to safely and humanely increase positive dog behaviors. Multiple times a day, we received videos of Mazie’s training. Not only was it great to see Mazie since we missed her, but the videos were work samples that demonstrated training techniques that we could integrate into our daily training after. We are able to use the videos as a reference when we get “stuck” to help us utilize the most effective training. Olivia also incorporated training in real life, real time at locations including the park, stores and even the Punta Gorda Farm Market! One of our training sessions with Olivia as well as Mark, Ali and Aja, was a 2 mile walk with 30 dogs going through the farm market!! The training was explained in a clear and coherent manner that was easy to replicate. Olivia is professional and disciplined yet patient and understanding. She has a superior work ethic. We always felt genuine support from her and never rushed or criticized. No matter what problem or concern we had, she patiently listened and created a workable solution for us. Advanced Training Development provided a top notch experience throughout for us and our dog! The first meeting, the assessment, helped us identify behaviors that needed to be extinguished and behaviors we wanted developed. It also provided an overview of their very positive training process and their facility and it identified limitations we, as owners, might present. Mark and the training staff were excellent! They are really committed and involved us in the training process. They sent us about four videos a day showing what they were doing, how they were working with our dog, and what we would have to reinforce after ‘graduation.’ Socialization with other dogs and working with distractions were a couple of our training goals. Watching the videos of them working with our dog in shopping centers, dog friendly stores, and in farmer’s markets made us jealous that our dog was getting out and about more than we were and it was clear he was having a lot of fun as well as learning a lot. All the trainers were open to our many questions and welcomed our joining them during field trips and at the training facility. When we did, we got valuable training ourselves. Our dog is now home and we are busy reinforcing what he learned. We know we can call Mark and his staff with any questions and we will likely be back later for advanced training. Tucker now walks like a young gentlemen, at my side, and stops & sits whenever I stop. At ACD they also do immersion training. They took Tucker to the mall, to the farmers market, and to the beach. They invite you to go and train with them along the way, which is very helpful. I was very skeptical about how much they could teach him within the two week period, but they proved me wrong. He learned many useful things. It was traumatic for me to leave my young puppy for that length of time, but it helped that we received multiple daily videos showing his progress along the way. There is no doubt that this is a pricey endeavor, but it is definitely more than worth it!! We plan to continue with Mark and his team for future training and boarding needs. Well done ACD Team!! For others reading this, you must understand that ACD will not magically bring your dog back 100% trained versus a dog that's been doing this for a few years. We knew, as his owners, his “aggressiveness” was fear and anxiety driven; however, every other person that saw him only saw an aggressive mean dog. When I talked to Mark over the phone he told me up front that he couldn’t guarantee he could help if our dog was a liability, which I totally understood and respected. Actually, this impressed me. We took him in for the consultation and Mark used the protection sleeve to approach our dog. He didn’t bite or anything, but Mark knew there was fear/anxiety at play, so he asked to keep him a couple hours before taking our money. And THIS is what sold me on ACD! Not only did I feel completely validated and heard, but he wasn’t so money hungry that he would automatically take on a case without absolutely knowing he could make a difference. And OH, what a difference Mark and his team made! My Rocko is a completely different dog. He stayed an extra week beyond their traditional 2 week board and train due to his anxieties and fears, and it truly paid off. On his last day of training, Mark sent me videos of him and Josh (the other male trainer) working with Rocko and being best buds! A few days before that I had received videos of Josh petting and loving on Rocko and then working with him! We couldn't be more pleased with ACD's program and staff. Mark put together a great team of young, dog-loving, professionals that are at top of their game; skilled, friendly, patient, encouraging ... I'm running out of adjectives but not out of gratitude for their help with putting Georgie boy (our 2 y/o Gordon Setter) on the road to a lifetime of happiness.. We had trained 4 other Setters (3 English, 1 Gordon) ourselves and they all turned out OK .. Nothing fancy - just a reasonably good heel, sit, stay, and come. That's all we wanted for George as well, but an inexplicable, almost paralyzing, fear of EVERYTHING, got in the way of any real progress. George stayed at ACD's facility, full-time, for 3 weeks. It would have been hard 'for us', were it not for our inclusion in the process, right from the beginning; through a prolific video and photo stream, using their Customer Portal, as well as 'our' hands-on working sessions... call it Owner Training, with the team and other Clients and their dogs. The team worked on the fear issues through, what I'd characterize as an Immersion Therapy of sorts, in the presence of many other dogs demonstrating no reaction to the 'scary thing' .. and weaved in the basic behaviors, we were looking for, and some others, as the diminishing anxieties would allow. Is George "done" ? ... well, we could call it that and be DONE..we got what we paid for and then some.. But this team put him in a place, from which we can do so much more ..and we are. As clients, we remain welcomed to participate in regularly scheduled and ad hoc group walks, in parks, town streets, busy marketplaces.. you name it .. where behaviors (Ours as well as George's) are polished and added to, as well continued desensitization to all sorts of 'scary' sights and sounds .. These outings are a BLAST, for the Owners and Dogs. I suppose for everyone except non-dog-people that happen to be in the busy marketplace.. oh well .. ruff ruff We plan to send George back to 'camp' from time to time; polish-up his skill set, add to it, and nip any developing issues in the bud.. we would be boarding him, from time to time, anyway.. so why not Boarding School? My life can be chaos at times — they worked with my schedule. The story of the Bijou Queen: She is a rescue English Bulldog and stands about 1.5 feet tall and weighs almost 60 lbs. As her name implies, she is royalty in our home and is treated accordingly! So anyone ‘training’ her was going to be heavily vetted by mama first! (She is my baby!) Unlike my previous experience with multiple EBs, Bijou actually walks alot and enjoys it. When I got her from rescue, she was well trained in the house and even to walk on a leash… but she seemed ‘aggressive’. She was reactive with (what seemed like all) other dogs or animals. It got to the point where I was afraid to go outside with her because I was afraid something would cause her to ‘lose it’ (as I called it) and ‘Houdini’ out of her harness and go after the animal or the dog. Then the day came, she went after a raccoon that ran in front of us. I didnt let go and she didn’t Houdini, and I fell. I injured my back so badly that I ended up with 4 surgeries on my spine in the course of a year. It took a village to get me back in working order (and Im so grateful!), but when I was healed, I realized I had to do something about Bijou. I was terrified to finally call ACD because I thought the answer was going to be I had to give her up; that I just couldn’t manage this 60 lb dog that didnt ‘fit’ the typical English Bulldog profile. Enter Mark and ACD, the first thing he said to me is: “Well of course she gets out of all this stuff, her head is smaller than her neck… you have to do this instead; and you know she isn’t aggressive, the harness is frustrating her; she needs to be in a collar. “ (As an EB mom, I resisted the collar at first and Mark didn’t push me on it; he SHOWED me the difference.) I know he thought I was a lunatic at that moment because I started crying. I was so relieved. For the first time, there were solutions other than ‘she is just too big; too aggressive; too much.’ Then he took out his training dogs and they met Bijou and she was… fine! I knew my Bijou Queen was a good girl — I was most of the problem! Today, she walks the neighborhood like Queen she is. Mama is calmer, so she is calmer. I am so grateful for the ACD team! Less

While vacationing in Punta Gorda, we came across Advanced Canine Development. My husband and I were playing pickle ball and we observed Mark's staff walking dogs nearby the park. We decided to check the company out online. Mark and his staff are the real deal. They are concerned for improving the life of the pet owner as well as the canine. First off, we called on Saturday expecting to leave a message and low and behold Mark, the owner answered the call. He listened to our concerns about Tucker's separation anxiety. He scheduled an appointment with us the following week. After meeting us and leaving Tucker with Mark and his staff for 6 hours, we received a call that afternoon telling us that they felt they could help us. Tucker stayed in their care for the next 2 weeks while we continued to vacation. During Tuck's training we received updates, pictures and videos of Tucker's training process. Any questions or concerns that we had were addressed daily. I was very apprehensive about picking Tucker up at the end of the two weeks (pet owners that have experienced separation anxiety would understand), but we were reassured that Tucker was ready. Tucker is 7.5 years old and had been adopted by my son's family as a pup at 6 months. After many struggles with Tucker, my son, offered him to us after losing our German shepherd. Unfortunately the same problems that they had we had. We asked Vets and heard the same from each. They offered medications to sedateTucker, but we were not interested in drugs. This wouldn't fix the problem, just put a bandaid on it. We now have the tools and the knowledge to address Tucker's separation anxiety. I'm a firm believer that some things you can fix on your own, and some things you need a specialist. Mark is a specialist in canine training and behavioral problems. We are so pleased with our experience with Advanced Canine Development! We chose to do the 2 week board and train program for our fur baby Willow. Mark and his team constantly kept us updated with videos and pictures of her progress. Willow did great while she was learning, and she came to adore all the staff that worked with her. Willow only had a few problems to work on, leash pulling, crate training, and separation anxiety were our main concerns and we were very happy with the results. She now loves her crate and will often go in on her own and just relax because it's her space, and this also helps us to feel confident to leave her alone and know she will be alright. As for the leash pulling, many people have commented to us how well behaved she is and walks like such a little lady. Now she's not perfect and can be stubborn at times, but she has the foundation and knows what she needs to do, so just as anything practice makes perfect and there's always room for improvement so we keep working and training to improve her skills. My wife and I recently thought it would be a good idea to get a golden retriever puppy to complement our existing middle aged greyhound. As wonderful as he is, he quickly turned out to be more of a contrast than a complement. His body grew faster than his brain, and before long we were chasing him around the couch and fending him off with a broom. I heard about Mark from a coworker and we called him for a consult. He has a way with dogs. Within the first two minutes he had convinced our puppy that biting him was a bad idea. After a impressive consultation we signed him up on the spot for a two week residential training course, then extended for another week. Mark and his team, notably Olivia, have been fantastic. We got regular video and photo updates throughout the residential training. What has been a pleasant surprise is the follow up. We have been in regular touch and we have been back to the facility for two follow up sessions now. These are as useful for us as they are for the dog, since there is so much information to learn. Our puppy’s behavior now is in marked contrast to his prior behavior. The transformation has been quite remarkable. In short, we could not recommend this service more highly. Less

Hands down amazing place to send our pup! Olivia worked wonders with our Bear and really taught him the puppy manners he needed to grasp. He’s a doodle so he loves to jump and he really calmed down and doesn’t jump any longer. Spoke with Mark the owner about a company van illegally parked in a handicap parking space not running, not occupied with Kenneled dogs inside the van crying and he acted like he didn't care and was unapologetic. I wouldn't let his company clean up after my dogs.

This was not the easiest case, as he had to un-train our Golden's prior training, which was done incorrectly and resulted in persistent misbehavior from our boy. He was both very friendly, courteous, and punctual, but was also highly informative and hands-on with training us, the owners. As you come to find out, it is less about training the actual dog and more about training the owners! We had been sending mixed signals to our puppy and this resulted in confusion and lack of obedience. Mark's approach is all about clear communication with your furry friend. He taught us step by step how to clearly communicate what we wanted from our dog, and why he wasn't responding to our former way of training and instruction. We also like that Mark was not zapper happy. In fact, there was no use of the correctional collar at all for the first few sessions. Instead, he utilizes positive reinforcement to guide dogs to the correct behavior. And later in more advanced training sessions, Mark's rule of thumb was for every 1 use of the correctional collar, 10 rewards. This not only led to our dog not being afraid of Mark when he came to the house, but actually excited to see him and ready to train! This was in stark contrast to the former training we had done with our big boy, which relied primarily on negative reinforcement through zapping and so forth, which demoralized our dog. I highly recommend Mark and his team for anyone that would like fast, efficient, and humane training of your furry friends. After first hiring a purely positive trainer who was no help at all to my puppy Jax, I gave Mark a call and he quickly solved all of our issues! He has trained Jax to be such a well mannered boy. Mark has a great understanding on pack mentality and what a dog is thinking in any moment. I had 2 stubborn weimaraners that were good dogs but needed a few very important lessons on what's not allowed. I have seen great improvement and continue to use his techniques. Why didn’t I do this sooner? That about sums up my thoughts upon getting my dog back. Mark did a phenomenal job with her, and I couldn’t be more pleased. She was a sweet and loving girl before Mark took her, but was a bit wild and unpredictable. She is now calm, listens, and maintains her stay until released...and she is still very happy and loving.
