I switched from Sports Center to Elite Fitness about 6 months ago and extremely satisfied with my switch. Always a clean environment and a friendly fitness vibe lending to weight lifters. The manager, Sam, is always on the move organizing weights, tidying, and ensuring guests have a positive experience. I've been a member of each iteration of this gyms location prior (Club Fitness, Achieve Fitness, Golds Gym). For the most part the gym and equipment are still the same and the gym still hosts, in my opinion, the best gym in Cabarrus County at least. The largest difference is the atmosphere the new ownership brings. The atmosphere isn't built on the ego of the owners but the thriving of the members. What you may have heard about the old leadership is probably true. But THIS gym isn't that or them. The price is ok but have a lot of hidden fees just be on point with your payments don't have two cards on file because they still will give you a 25 dollar fee if one card doesn't work ,& decline you be charged even if they charge your other card you have on file . The other think they don't tell you when you sing up right away within 3 months you will be charged not just the month but a 79.99 dollar fee for maintenance or so on right but there equipment is outdated old, malfunction ing where you can get hurt 🤕 too like i did on a threadmill check this pic. I was a member when it was gold's but nothing has changed, same machines,same nasty carpet.The only thing changed is the name.I came in today for a one time visit and so guy at the front wanted me to leave my driver's license at the desk while I trained.I told him to refund my 10 dollars because he didn't bother to put my license in a file or anything he just had it laying on the desk.I see nothing has changed except for the name. I've been a member since 2016 when it was still Gold's Gym so I've seen the gym evolve over the years. Since Elite Fitness took over I've personally noticed an increase in quality. Bathrooms stay cleaner than before and they've slowly added some nice equipment like new power/squat racks and a few others. Would like to see some of the less used machines replaced with newer/different machines, but it doesn't hinder my gym experience at all. The one con the gym has is lack of a good lighting and an isolated posing/downligting room. Lighting in the locker room is lack luster and there is only 1 full body mirror at the entrance of the locker room which has too much traffic to pose. Both of the studios don't have any downlighting or light control, all of the lights turn on at once. The cycling studio had the better lighting of the two, but an announcement was recently made that their cycling studio will be closed after hours which eliminates that option. However, this isn't a major issue as it doesn't affect all members, but it is something other gyms have that I wish Elite offered. Their functional room which used to have multiple boxing heavy bags also needs some updates and love, doesn't feel the cleanest and is worn down compared to the rest of the gym. Despite the few issues, I still really enjoy this gym and plan to stay a member for the foreseeable future. Less

Gym is always dirty, I guess it’s probably the quality of people in this area. Look at how much trash and chewed gum they leave in the treadmills, let alone the parking lot. Bathroom is always out of soap or toilet paper. Also the humidity level is extremely high in here, definitely some mold in the upholstery of some of the machines, we can feel the reaction every time we come to this location. Great selection of machines though, recommend the other Elite location. Less

This gym has been a nightmare. First of all, as a student I’ve been paying 50 dollars a month and come to find out my friends who are also students have been only paying 25. Worse than that the equipment is falling apart, the leather is pealing and cracking, it’s not updated at all. While I’m working out people will come up to me and make me prove my membership claiming they are friends of the owner. Trying to cancel has been hell and they’ve slapped fees on the ending balances over and over again. Even one called an enhancement fee to “update equipment” when nothing has been updated in the year I’ve been there. I once even saw a roach while working out. Been a part of this facility since 2013. Never had an issue with payment when Club Fitness & Gold Gym was in ownership. Elite fitness comes around as the new owners and I instantly start having payment issues and there is nothing they can do to reinstate my membership but instead want to charge me double the monthly fee & also another enrollment fee just to activate my account. I was a little hesitant about joining Elite Fitness after moving to the area but I’m SOOO GLAD I did. I love the fact the gym is open 24/7 and there is always equipment available and ready to use at anytime I decide to go. The owner answered any of my questions that I had prior to joining. Just attempted to sign up at this gym and was denied due to a staff member informing me that they do not accept prime members but they are listed on the network and when I reach out to tivity health to see if that was true I was inform that I should have been accepted as a new member because they are apart of the network and I reach out to their other locations and was inform that they do accept prime, stay far away from this gym if you can cause apparently they only want specific individuals in there gym. The gym is huge first of all. Locker room is large, clean, and serves it's purpose. I haven't tried classes yet but it's cool that they're offered as well as child care for those with a need. The staff is friendly and their fitness director is one of the best around. Toured and signed up today!! Charles was amazing!!! It’s a fantastic space with a large variety of equipment and room to move around for a complete and varied workout. Today was push day for us and I can honestly say that I got a better and more efficient workout than at my previous gym. What I love: daycare for kids, easy and secure after hours check in, spacious dressing rooms with full showers, private dressing rooms, sauna and steam rooms, variety of instructor led workouts Reasons I'm not renewing my membership: The culture- other members won't restack weights as stated in contracts, so you will spend double the time in the gym than you normally would just to find the weights you need. Poor sanitation- this is more a critique when it was golds gym but I have no way to confirm if they have a staffed custodian since changing. I stopped going when I found a used condom in one of the women's showers along with a large clump of hair in another shower. Both sat there for three weeks. I tried telling someone everytime I came in but couldn't find a staff member since it was after hours. I don't want to imagine what else isn't sanitized and cleaned daily. Delays with delivering upgrades- They promised a lot of upgrades when they transitioned last summer but all I noticed was new paint. Conclusion: If the yearly membership price was slashed in half, I would keep my membership. However considering all the negatives, it's not worth it's current price since you can only effectively use half of the amenities. Less

I was a member of Gold's gym when Elite took it over. I messaged them through their website shortly after they took over to put my membership on hold due to some back issues and my being unable to workout. I never heard back from them and didn't realize until months later that I was still being charged. I finally got someone to call me back only to be informed that they said they emailed me back asking how long I wanted to pause my membership and because I didn't respond, my membership was never paused. I checked my inbox, spam, trash, etc. and can't find an email. I asked them to resend me what they originally sent and I was told they couldn't do that. I told them it would go a long way in being reimbursed and they said no. I told them I wanted to speak with a supervisor (I asked different employees 3 or 4 times ) and each time, they said that wasn't possible. I told them to cancel my membership and they said I had to email them to do so and that it would take 30 days. In other words, I would be charged another month before I would stop being charged for good. They milked me for months, wouldn't allow me to speak to a supervisor and didn't seem like they cared one bit. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. UPDATE: I can't figure out how to respond to the owner's response below so I'm adding it here: Thank you for responding. I actually think I did call the gym directly first and they told me I had to call the company who manages your gym's payments/contracts. But perhaps I'm misremembering that part. Either way, the company handling your billing are the ones who will not allow me to speak to a manager. I did receive a call back twice from your senior manager, Rebecca, and I returned the call both times. We kept missing each other. The last time I called back, I left a message with an employee who said they would make sure Rebecca got my message and that she would reach back out to me again. Update: my review was for Ida. After Ida had been released of her job my communication with Rebecca and staff has been miserable. I was charged for personal training (11/22) that I could not complete since I was not told of Ida being let go until after I was charged and my schedule was not compatible with Rebecca’s. From there Rebecca and I agreed to terminate my PT sessions since they had not hired anyone to replace Ida and wouldn’t until February 2023 and I’m being charged still. There’s so much and I wish I could stop having this business take my money every month. There is a disgusting taste left in my mouth from these people. Ida has been awesome! She’s the reason I signed up to continue my training there! The locker room has appeared clean and I feel comfy showering and changing to go straight to work after training with Ida. Less

The gym is nice. The folks in the gym are nice, but management is not so nice. The cancellation policy is HORRENDOUS! Here’s a little background on that. I’m a federal contractor and recently had to relocate to SC for work. Unfortunately, that meant I had to cancel the membership to Gold’s Gym of Concord. I was told by the young man that helped me sign up, if I ever needed to cancel my membership, I had a couple options. One option was, I’d need to move a certain distance from the gym (I’m currently 100 miles from the gym). The second option was to pay $50 (wish I had gotten that in writing). Went to the gym and an employee told me that he couldn’t cancel my membership there and I had to call someone else. Fine. Not a problem. Called the number and they told me that my jobs contract and Airbnb receipts won’t work for the cancelation. She also told me that I would have to pay half of the remaining contract amount in order to settle it. Extremely long story short, I wish I’d never step foot in the gym. Which sucks because the employees are nice with an exception of a few. Less

If you want a gym with working machines/equipment, this is not the place to go. Although the staff is great and friendly, half of the equipment doesn’t work. Very unfortunate as I use to love this gym but can no longer get in a good workout when everything I want to use is out of order. Especially stair master...always out of service. Today, 2 of the leg machines that are very popular were missing the padding to even use the machine (lying hamstring curls and leg extensions). Get it together Gold’s. Less

Golds Gym in Concord is the worst. They cheat people. After they cancel their membership, they continue to bill them. VERY hard to quit. I worked there for 2 1/2 years and during that time they had 6 managers. They treated their employees very badly. I bought and paid for, in advance, membership for my Granddaughter and her boyfriend (over $500). They billed him many times which was embarrasing because I paid in advance as a Christmas gift. Very hard time clearing this up. They have girls in the nursery who are constantly on their phones and not paying attention to the children there. Once, when I worked there one of the small children got out and was located in the parking lot there. I am not one to put my issues online, but in this case I have had a very negative experience with the customer service at this gym. If it saves one other poor soul from the stress it has caused then it will be worth it. First, it is absolutely ridiculous that no one is around to cancel something, but everyone wants to sign you up and take your money. There are a select few individuals who went out of their way to help, including my trainer, but I still have no resolution 3 almost 4 months later. All I want to do is cancel my personal training membership in which the contract was OVER! I've been running around in circles since December trying to get this cancelled. It absolutely should not be this difficult in 2018! The customer service manager from Albemarle continues to refuse to call me in order to settle this issue. I will never sign a contract with Gold's Gym again. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get out of the current one I'm in! Currently reaching out to corporate in order to file a complaint, but they won't call back either! I will be looking to see if the Better Business Bureau can help. I noticed the gym casually on my way into Wal-Mart, but didn't invest fully all it had to offer. Later, my cart laden with cream, butter, cheese, and garlic bread, I weighed (pun intended) the choice between leaving dinner in my car and renewing my Gold's membership versus heading straight home to enjoy the rich buttery goodness of a homemade Alfredo sauce. I did a few deep knee bends in the parking lot, which served the dual purpose of getting my case of beer out from under the cart and reassuring myself that I've still got "it". Feeling challenged by the large glowing yellow "Gold's" sign, I did two laps of fartlek intervals around the Wal-Mart parking lot while returning my cart. I would have made three, but I poorly timed my second lap past the entrance and got swept back into the store by an overly aggressive family of 15. By the time I regathered myself and managed to break free, I abandoned my cart between the deli and the donuts. My vision was narrowing due to overestimating my cardio fitness. I saw a flash of yellow in the distance stumbled towards it. Not sure if it was a shining Gold's Gym beacon showing me the way out or just another smiling "Lower Prices" face, I pushed onward until I heard the cheery greeter and caught a glimpse of freedom past the buy one get one free rack. Safely back at my car, I resolved that TOMORROW, I'd skip the cheese sauce and go straight to Gold's. Less

So, I saw a lot of negative comments about the gym. I have been going to this gym since it opened. I've cancelled two family member contracts and opened another. I've transitioned through two to get to gold's. Previously there were some issues with equipment repair. Those issues are no more now than you'd expect from a gym. If the equipment is creaking under you you are spending too little time in the gym and too much at the table. This gym gives you what you should expect from a gym. It's staff are friendly and down to earth, the equipment is good, the televisions are working. Boo on you if you expect to walk into a bed of roses and have someone do the workout for you. Less

Outstanding staff and trainers! They have helped me achieve and maintain my fitness goals! That's saying a lot coming from an old couch potato. Suddenly Golds says I owe them money. We didn't have a membership with Golds & we where in a 12 month prepaid cash membership. Do not sign with these crooks! A friend and I were in town for a IBJJF tournament and he came to this Gold's Gym to cut weight while I waited in the lobby. I asked the front desk if I could just use the bathroom and all three females told me no because it was for "members only." So, Let me first start with the management for Golds, it's terrible and full of lies. Harrisburg is in that group as well. a certain employee humiliated me in front of members only because I've never been there at any time that she has been working. Back to concord, they have a long way to go in their gym to be fixed. The a/c is terrible and uncomfortable to workout in and the tanning beds suck especially the one where there is no air or fan. I want to share something with everyone so you can determine how you think Golds Gym has your safety and well-being rated. I sent this to the owner of the owner of the Concord gym and he never responded to me Hello Dusty, I am sending an email to you because your mother, Sharon, has received multiple email and messages concerning my panic seizure that occurred on Thursday, July 14, 2016. It happened at approximately 17:30 at Gold Gym, 349 Copperfield Blvd NE, Concord, NC 28025. This is based on a time frame of my workout and that I made a call at 18:31 when I left the gym. I have introduced my service dog, Sweet Pee, to the staff. They are aware that she is a seizure alert dog and that she performs an active duty while I am having a seizure. She is clearly marked by uniform and has a medical tag. I have attached a page with pictures and explanations of each. When going up through the center of the treadmills I was standing at the first treadmill on your left. My bags and water were on the floor next to the center. I was standing on the treadmill trying to get my phone programed because I was fixing to start walking. I saw Sweet Pee staring at me so I stepped off. I felt the hint of a seizure so I proceeded to the ladies locker room. I went to the back shower for open undisturbed space and called Sweet Pee into her duty position. Another member entered the room and heard me talking to Sweet Pee and I asked if I was ok. I told her what was happening and that I would be fine. She said she would go get someone just in case. Golds Gym employee, Lynn Mangan, entered the locker room and came back to the shower. I was conscious and aware of my surroundings. She started questioning me and upsetting me. Sweet Pee reacted to the circumstances and could not focus on her duty. This in turn affected that feeling of safety and security while increasing my anxiety levels. We all are aware that anxiety affects our heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow to brain. This resulted in a more intense seizure that lasted longer and the side effects lasted into the night. Now I will move on to move details as to why I am so upset. First, Gold Gym employee Lynn Mangan, broke a federal law when she would not step back as I told her to which distracted the service animal and interrupted an active duty being performed for myself, Tawana Yoak, with the disability of epilepsy and bi-polar while having a panic seizure. The repercussions of this action increased risks for health and life safety. While still in seizure status employee, Lynn Mangan, makes the statement she is going to call 911. I told her not to call 911, but to call the contact on the medical tag that is attached to my service dog’s vest. A picture of that tag is attached to this email. The member of the gym was still present and witnessed this request. She would not even look at the tag to call my contact and continued to argue with me about calling 911. At this point I still had not sat up. She would not be quiet, stay still, and let me relax so I could get through seizure. As I stated earlier this is a panic seizure so I do not lose consciousness. It affects the senses in my body like riding one of Carowinds large roller coaster. When the seizure had passed I sat up fully aware of where I was at and walked back out to the treadmill to get my water and bag. I was up front by what has been the smoothie bar when I saw the ambulance out of the corner of my eye. They were heading in with the bed and equipment. I ran for the side door to stop them before they came in and sign papers releasing them. Before getting to the door, employee, Lynn Manhan, blocked my path and told EMT to come in and where to set the bed. I was so upset and stressed out I was trembling. But, I was already so embarrassed that I wasn’t going to throw a fit with Lynn Mangan and EMT in my face standing at the front of the gym. I went through their protocol and signed the release papers. I spoke to a couple of friends and waited for a ride while my nerves quit trembling. I went up to the front desk and ask Chase for the number to contact someone in corporate management. Lynn Mangan walked up and made some comments. I got loud and told her to get out of my face. Not to long after I left she emailed your mother about my rudeness. Since beginning this email I have spoken to your mother, Sharon Mason, and explained the situation. She wasn’t very happy that Lynn Mangan, had broken a federal law, ignored my request by calling EMT, and then again by blocking the door. I have called the staff and ask them to find out the name of the black lady that was in the locker room. Chase and Hayden were witnesses to what happened with the EMT in the front. Less

Before the merge from Club Fitness to Gold's Gym this place was the best in town. Since the merge there has been nothing good. Equipment is bad and need replaced and I just feel bad going in. It seems they need a make over and quick. I talked with Sharon, and she said that they will have new stuff in soon and remodeled. This is great news. If it becomes like some of the other Gold Gyms out there, this place will be good. but until then, it is not. I did have a hard time canceling, however, Sharon was able to help me out and get everything back in good order with the company, which is part of the reason I reviews this as a Good Review. I never used to be a person who consistently worked out. I decided to join this gym in August because of the wide variety of classes that it offered. Now I can say, I love coming to the gym because of the classes. I love taking body bump with (Rhonda, Angel, or Angie) they are so motivating and push you til the end. My favorite class is Julie's freestyle spin on Tues and Wednesday. After a long day her class allows me to get lost in the music and just ride! It's a great cardio workout! Julie is so passionate and it shows in her teaching. Her classes are consistently full, and sometimes people are turned away because bikes are broken. It would be nice see the bikes all fixed so we could welcome more people into the class. Less

For me a gym is about the classes and the people. My wife, LeeAnn, and I love Tabata (with Rhonda), Body Sculpt (with Lynette) and especially Body Combat (with Leah). In Body Combat when LeeAnn and I feel we can't continue due to exhaustion, Leah, who not only teaches but is also the hardest working person in the class, encourages us to "hang with me" or "don't quit". Her encouragement inspires us to refocus and give our all. Due to these great classes and instructors I'm back to working out regularly and that's what I want and need from a gym. Less

Customer service is horrible! I'm getting screwed over bc my contract was with club fitness and they won't honor what I was told. I can't cancel unless I buyout the membership. This place is falling apart. Do to over population of gym members you constantly need to reroute your workout. Plus they don't maintain the equipment. Alot of pads are cracked and take weeks or sometimes months to have repaired. It always had an awful musty smell (not just the locker rooms). As for the staff, some are very professional, very nice.
