Have you ever talked about bullying in a branding meeting?I think it's a fair bet you haven't.For some context today I had meeting with the awesome Tim Marner. I had previously been on his podcast and today was to talk about my brand and messaging.As we know a brand goes far beyond just a logo.In the meeting we discuss values (mine refined brilliantly by Tim). Mission statement and vision etc. The stuff you expect.Some of this I haven't really looked at it for some time.The biggest challenge was to come up with "my purpose". This is how I think we got onto subject of me being bullied at school.Not physically and certainly not as bad a some people will have been through, but I do remember it affecting me around 15/16 years old. And for a while being quite unhappy. It's certainly something I have repressed and perhaps not not opened myself to exploring. (If I get courage and as I explore this I may share more around this)The reason we discussed bullying was that we were discussing my purpose around "helping people take control of their lives".Something I wouldnt have felt when being picked on as a teenager. Whether me wanting to help people take control was in part linked to this experience.It certainly has got me thinking. Which is what tim does. I'm not sure I've sat with someone who gives space (and holds silence) as well as Tim does. 👏Not only did he get me thinking but was able to help me distill my messages and my aims better than anyone I've spoken to.He cuts through the noise and comes from the a place of authentically wanted people to see what is possible for them and be the best version of themselves.Although there is still some work for me to get comfortable around my purpose. For some reason is seems too grandiose. Like who am I to have this puprose, I'm just me.It was an empowering meeting that left me energised but also challenged my thinking & beliefs.Ultimately I would like to deliver a financial planning service that is truly transformationational for clients. With Tim help I think I will get there.So for anyone looking at branding I strongly recommend getting in touch with Tim.
