I took the IDN Specialty Course "The Advanced Clinical Integration of the Pelvis, Lumbar, Hips and Abdomen." in 2021. Having a background in Dry Needling already, I  was searching for a course that would 1. teach me needling techniques that would help patients with pelvic floor dysfunction-a demographic that in my opinion is somewhat underserved. 2. the course would equip me with techniques that could be used immediately after completion. After completing the course, the knowledge and skills that I picked up gave me significant confidence with treating the pelvic-floor dysfunction population. It is unlike any other pelvic floor dysfunction course I have taken because I am now able to attain actionable results with dry needling and a plethora of "outside-the-box" manual therapy techniques that I was unable to get before. From treatment of Urinary and Fecal incontinence, to Vaginismis, my abilities to help an entirely different category of patients makes me an immediately more valuable asset to the PT practice. I highly recommend this course taught by Mark Hernandez, as he is extremely knowledgeable, humorous, keeps things simple, has decades of independent PT clinical practice and is always reachable for consultation. However, it was clear they made a conscious effort to objectively state the limitations as well as the use of dry needling as a supplement to other forms of interventions AFTER your clinical examination. As a clinician, this helped plan how to realistically think about implementing dry needling into plans of care come Monday morning. Not all courses make that kind of effort.I fully plan on taking the Advanced Course and would highly recommend! Less

I had breast cancer a year and a half ago with chemo/bilateral mastectomy/5 lymph nodes removed and 25 chest wall radiation sessions. Since the mastectomy and radiati... More

I took the upper extremity course after being an OT for 20 years doing upper extremity orthopedics and being a CHT for over 10 years. I learned so much but didn’t realize it would be a life changing experience for myself personally. I had breast cancer a year and a half ago with chemo/bilateral mastectomy/5 lymph nodes removed and 25 chest wall radiation sessions. Since the mastectomy and radiation I have not been able to gain full range of motion as my pectoralis was locked. My motion was functional but painful and I had accepted I would just live like that at 41 years old. After some convincing by my integrated dry needling experienced lab partner, I allowed my lateral pectoral to be needled. With 3-4 needles and 5 minutes there was instant change in my tissue softness as well as being able to externally rotate and elevate my arm. A relief of pain and motion I had not felt after living with the tightness and giving up on returning my motion. For any therapist doing oncology particularly after radiation or mastectomy I personally could not recommend this course enough. Life changing!From my own personal perspective in practice I feel confident treating cervical spine and neuropathy related to the upper extremities, as well as, soft tissue concerns like rotator cuff and lateral epicondylitis of the upper extremity. I am also excited to see how it can change the way I treat joint contracture, scarring, and arthritis. Less
