We write this testimonial as the parents of someone struggling with addiction. Any parent who reads this will understand the unique challenges addiction presents when it’s your own son or daughter putting their lives at risk every day. When faced with the counter-intuitive decisions a parent must make to stop enabling their child, we struggled with insecurities. One can read all the books and go to meetings and get therapy and we’ve done all these things over the past 15 years. They were helpful endeavors, but we needed more when our grown son had a dramatic relapse after 6 years of sobriety. In all our years of loving an addict and trying to get effective help for him, the absolute best decision we’ve made, both for our loved one and for ourselves, was to hire a professional interventionist. Just knowing they were there, staying in close contact with our son and basically talking him down from the self-destructive behaviors he was drowning in, made it possible for us to hold our boundaries and take better care of ourselves.
