I am a VERY anxious dental patient. Dr Patel and his staff were very caring and compassionate. They offered twilight sedation for my tooth extraction. When I came time for the implant, I went with just local anesthesia. The whole procedure was very smooth and quicker than I anticipated. Dr Patel is a truly exceptional oral surgeon. I have seen Dr Patel over the last 10 years for all my oral surgery needs. Every visit I continue to be impressed with his knowledge and skill as an oral surgeon. In addition I can tell how professional and caring his is by the way he treats his staff and the deep respect they have for him. Over though years I have had three extraction and three implants placed. While seeing an oral surgeon isn't particularly fun, the procedures were always painless and went smoothly. Both the oral surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and the staff were all very friendly and patient. The wisdom teeth extraction went really well and our daughter isn't in any pain and had very little pain when she came home from the initial surgery. The hardest part of this experience for me was trying to fill out forms online with my outdated Adobe software. they encourage phone calls and questions to be asked so you know what to expect and what's going on . I decided to try the "Nitrous Oxide" in addition to the novacaine. The Nitr. Ox. unfortunately did nothing to me, so I decided to "press on" anyway. The novacaine worked as it always has. This experience was just too good to be true so I waited four days just to make sure that it was, in fact, true. I had a dental implant and was somewhat anxious about it in the days leading up to the procedure; it was wasted anxiety. Dr Patel and his assistant, Raven, took very good care of me. My daughter had 4 wisdom teeth pulled and it was a great experience for her. The entire process took less than 1 hour. This is her 4th day after surgery and she’s not in too much pain. The ibuprofens helps. We didn’t get the Vicodin’s. No need for them. One thing was that I wished they explained in the paperwork what medications were required to required and what was as needed. I’m not sure anyone finds going to the dentist enjoyable, especially when they need oral surgery, but having a doctor with good bedside manners certainly makes the experience less traumatizing. Dr. Patel was referred by my endodontist, who received a similar dental implant from him. I had an initial consultation over the phone, and a staff member walked through the possibilities with me. The procedure can be done in either two or three phases, depending in the condition of the tooth and the jaw. I came in For a panoramic X-ray, and since I suffered a root fracture that resulted in an infection next to the root, it needed to be taken cared of and Dr. Patel prescribed antibiotics to clear it up. A week later I came in for another X-ray to confirm that the infection is gone and the extraction, cadaver bone reconstruction and dummy posting implant were performed in one sitting instead of two. Dr. Pastel then sewed the gum close and applied glue on top. The staff already sent the prescriptions to my pharmacy and all I had to do was to go pick it up; we also set up a follow up for months down the road. Dr. Patel followed up with a text that evening to ensure I had no issues. I was nicely surprised with a flower delivery the next day. My only suggestion is if a patient has to wait for their procedure, it would be nice to know that the doctor is running late/hung up/(insert any excuse or reason here). My appointment was moved up from 11:40 to 9:50 the day before but the prep work didn’t start until after 10:30. I was waiting for my X-ray and overheard an unhappy customer demanding to talk to the doctor, so I assumed he had to deal with that patient. Less

I rate Lorton Dental Implant 5 star for the surgery replacing all my lower jaw teeth with dental implants. It involved removing all my remaining lower jaw teeth followed with the implant surgery with temporary implant teeth. I was awake without feeling much pain for the few hours during the surgery. What was surprising to me was that I did not experience much pain after the surgery even though quite some lower jaw swelling after the surgery which should be normal for this type of surgery. Dr. Patel followed up with me with get well messages and inquiries to ensure everything was fine with me. The surgery with my lower jaw implants has been recovery nicely for last few days, and I'm grateful for the services provided to me from Lorton Dental Implant so far even though it'll still be few more months prior to getting my permanent implant teeth. Oral surgery is never something one wants to do. If you must have oral surgery, Dr. Patel and his staff make it as pleasant and smooth as possible. I unfortunately don't heal quickly and got an infection. Dr. Patel was responsive and we got it under control. The only thing I will say is the document that comes home with the patient states one should feel better within 2-3 days. I would say that for multiple procedures in one visit it would be realistic to state "and up to two weeks to recover", which is what it took me. That is the only reason for 4 vs 5 stars as my expectation was to be up and moving in 3 days. I have more surgery to be done and am absolutely finishing with Dr. Patel. I look forward to having a complete smile again. Less

Wow! To say I was TERRIFIED of getting all four of my wisdom teeth extracted is an understatement. I almost didn't show up for the appointment, willing to surrender the $100 hold despite my frugal mindset. For weeks my anxiety was high as people told me their wisdom teeth horror stories. I had no prior experience with Lorton Dental but all the amazing reviews did help ease that anxiety. When I arrived the staff also reassured me a few notches by pointing out that Dr. Patel was also an MD. OK great, I probably won't die but can I bare the pain? I admitted my fears to anyone who would listen and they were all well received with compassion and reassurances. The dental hygienist described how she had her wisdom teeth out just a few months earlier by Dr. Patel and how she had no problems. I was scared of dry sockets and she explained that if you follow their recovery plan it was unlikely. I was still skeptical but soon enough I was laying back with my mouth wide open. First fear, getting numbed up. I barely felt the stings that caused my mouth to go numb and simply thought they were poking around doing the assessment before sticking me but to my surprise it was over before I fully realized what was happening. Despite my intense fears I chose to be awake for the procedure and just used laughing gas so I could drive myself home. They let me breathe in the relaxing air and left me alone while my face turned numb. I put in headphones and blasted music. After awhile the dentist and hygienist returned and started the procedure. This was it! I was committed! The actual extraction only took 20 minutes!! Thankfully my teeth were not impacted so they popped out pretty easily. Being awake isn't ideal but won't leave lasting traumatic imprints. The worst part of the last 6 days in recovery were the first 3 hours post procedure when you're managing the blood with gauze, waiting for the numbness to wear off. I was certain the pain would be excruciating once I could feel my face again. I nearly choked while trying to swallow 3 ibuprofen with a numb mouth but was determined to stay on top of the pain management. Shockingly, it's been 6 days post procedure and I never once had pain. My jaw was super sore for about 5 days which made eating difficult the first 2 days but I can deal with sore. I haven't had any dry sockets, didn't have any swelling or bruising, and best of all, no pain!! I think I'll likely switch to Lorton/Springfield as my primary dental office going forward. They made an experience I was willing to trade in for kidney stones into one that already feels like a distant memory after only a few days. Less

Chipmunks cheek for Halloween I have been hesitated to go to the oral surgeon for my wisdom tooth cuz of pain, recovery n bill. Dr.Patel and nurse were very professional, experienced and gentle. I had my consultation in the morning, surgery in the afternoon, still was able to go trick or treating with my kids in the evening. Nobody believed me when I told them my chipmunk cheeks were not part of costume (gauges in my cheek). The reason I can say Dr.Patel is very good at what he does, cuz today is my day 2 recovery yet I’m not taking any pain meds, just antibiotics. The finance assistant was very professional, explained n answered all my questions about the bill. She was above n beyond. I am a returning patient of Dr. Patel. He is so good with his work that, it makes me feel like, he knows the job as the lines on his palm. Only thing I would suggest is, for a little more professional briefing from his staff prior the procedure. Like what is the length of the procedure? do I need a back up driver after the procedure? to go through briefly things after the procedure, To advise take pain killer or supply some before the procedure so patient doesn't suffer from hard pain as soon as the anesthesia takes off. My dentist recommended Dr. Patel, a dental surgeon, to extract one of my tooth which was broken below the gum line. I was given the option to get a tooth implant installed at the same time if the conditions are right. The nurse gave me nitric oxide to calm my anxiety before Dr. Patel applied a couple shots of local anesthetic. It was interesting to hear the cracking sound of my affected tooth being extracted. Although noisy, I did not feel any noticeable pain while Dr. Patel cleaned out the tooth remnants with the drill tool. After the tooth hole was cleaned, I felt Dr. packing the empty slot and stitched it up to stop the bleeding and help with the healing. After the process was completed, Dr. Patel explained that he did not install the tooth implant at this time because my bones were too soft. He had applied bone graft to help strengthen the bone in that area. I will need to return in about four (4) month to have the tooth implant installed at that time. I believe Dr. Patel mentioned that five (5) month after the tooth implant has been installed, my dentist can install a cap on top of the tooth implant. The nurse gave me several prescriptions that Dr. Patel wrote to help me manage post-operative pain. She explained the schedule when to take each prescription as needed. Four month later. My bone graft has now healed enough so that the dental implant can be installed. I was given a local anesthetic to number the area where my tooth had previously been extracted. To place the dental implant, Dr. Patel made a cut to open my gum and expose the bone. Holes were drilled into the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed. The post will serve as the tooth root, so it is implanted deep into the bone. Now, the jaw bone will grow into and unite with the surface of the dental implant. This process, which can take several months to heal, helps provide a solid base for my new artificial tooth. The gum around my implant was sutured to stop bleeding. I will return in about 3 months when Dr. Patel will perform additional surgery to place the abutment — the piece where the crown will eventually attach. This minor surgery is typically done with local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. Less

Doc and staff were great! They were able to see me last minute and I didn't wait too long after my appointment time. With that said, I was charged $50 for some clove oil and cinnamon. I was show my bill and approved it (so overall the ownus is on me) but when I was shown it the bill showed the medical name of "sock it" and it made it seem like it was medically necessary. In the future it would be a little more clear if we're told "this is what you need, and this is what we recommend" vs making it seem like everything was medically necessary. Overall I'd go back, but be a lot more thorough when looking at my bill. Regardless of how much pain I'm in or how numbed up I am. Less

My experience getting my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Patel and his team was definitely as good as that experience can be. I did a lot of research ahead of time and read a lot of reviews, and Dr. Patel definitely lived up to the many good reviews out there. The office staff and techs were all really friendly and knowledgeable. They took the time to clearly explain everything I would need to do, how to prepare, what to expect, and walked through billing step by step with me. Dr. Patel spoke to me ahead of the surgery and was really kind and reassuring, and happily answered my questions. When I woke up from the surgery, I felt a bit groggy but did not feel pain. I opted to get Exparel, which is a nerve blocker that prevents pain for about 72 hours, and it worked! By the time that wore off, I could easily manage my pain with ibuprofen. It has now been a week and everything has healed up nicely, I haven't experienced any complications. The whole experience was significantly easier than I expected, and I really experienced hardly any pain. I would definitely recommend Dr. Patel to anyone! Less

AMAZING!!!!! I have the lowest pain tolerance EVER and due to a traumatic experience as a child (yes I know I'm an adult lol) I hate the dentist. "No one I know likes going to a dentist, but some times it is necessary. In my case it was necessary as in one week I lost a filling and another tooth broke. I went to my dentist who fixed the broken tooth and then said "it's time to talk implants". After our discussion she said that she would get in touch with Dr. Patel and try and get an appointment asap. Well "asap" turned out to be the next day at 9:00 am.
