Ray came out second and I was immediately impressed with him. He sounded knowledgeable and kind. Unlike the stream of roofers who came after, Ray did not attempt to offer me any 'specials' or high pressure sales. His estimate was not the lowest, but it was within the price range I had figured on my own. During my escapade with other roofing companies, Ray followed up to ask if I had questions or to see if I had made a decision. He never pressured me to choose him or even told me why I should choose him. That also impressed me because he accepted that I was an intelligent person who would make up my own mind. I chose Gateway because of their experience and reviews, but mostly because of Ray. My roof is low slope with exposed ceiling beams so there is no attic. During the job, the ceiling shook so much that a light fell down and dirt and debris fell on my head. Also some water from a beam on the roof came in on my ceiling. I pointed these issues out to Ray and he came inside -During the Covid- to look, then he replaced my light and caulked where the ceiling had been dropping debris. After a fairly rainy season, we had water damage inside our family room appearing along the seam where the wall connected to the vaulted ceiling. It was a fairly long seam developing a crack, perhaps 8', but it did seem to us that the problem was originating at the top of the seam with the water running down the sloped ceiling. We had one company out and despite inspection of the roof they weren't able to pinpoint the issue... leaving us with one estimate to fix random "potential" sources of the problem and another quote to redo that entire side of the roof (even tho the shingles still had plenty of life time remaining). We called Ray for a second opinion. His inspection confirmed the roof is still good but revealed one shingle nail which had come loose, allowing rain to get under the shingle, etc. and run down the ceiling seam thanks to gravity. He patched up the bad spot in the shingle for very minimal cost. We waited three weeks, through some more rain, and confirmed that the drywall which was being damaged was now continually dry. Problem fixed! Ray then came out and repaired the damaged drywall seam between the wall and ceiling for very minimal cost. Ray is a gifted workman and honorable gentleman. Highly recommend. Less
