I've been several times, all of which were great fun. The first thing to know is that they are excellent teachers and everyone I've been there with has successfully chunked an axe into a hunk of wood from ten feet away like a ninja-woodsman. It's quite satisfying.
Great for a family outing with the teenagers--phones were only out briefly for photos. A work event (they recommended a food truck that catered it)--everyone loved this activity. And just a father son after dinner do something together and talk about life kind of activity.
They give you a thorough and well-explained safety talk at the beginning. the place is orderly and everyone has fun but are respectful. The axes do bounce around some, especially as you're learning, so it comes naturally to stand back and be cautious when going downrange. Three beer limit makes sense.
I'm not joining a league or anything, but this is a fun time for all. Easier to learn than bowling, and you splinter the target.
