⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Outstanding hospitality when we really needed it!We recently had the unfortunate experience of breaking down near Thornhill, and at very short notice we ended up staying at The Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel. What could have been a very stressful and difficult situation was made so much easier by the incredibly helpful and welcoming staff.From the moment we arrived, everyone was friendly, accommodating and genuinely helpful. The hotel itself is lovely, comfortable and has a really welcoming atmosphere.And the food was absolutely amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and the quality was excellent. It was just what we needed after a very long and stressful day.Considering the quality of the accommodation, the service and the food, we thought it was very reasonably priced as well.A huge thank you to everyone at the Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms for looking after us so well when we were in a difficult situation. Your kindness and hospitality really made a difference.We would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again. Five stars without hesitation! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Went for a meal with family got the worst reception no smiles!! ordered red Thai and the rice was sooo salted both were sent back fish was full of bones garlic bread was rock solid only edible things was the peas!!! Would avoid for a meal terrible service and food

Simply one of the best Sunday lunches that I have had. The stafv are friendly, attentive and helpful. The cooking is top notch and the prices are very reasonable.

This is most definitely NOT a 4 star hotel ! Most of the reviews refer to the food, which we agree is excellent 👌. But when it comes to the rooms, forget it. Our room, which was not our choice nor the room we asked for, was really a single as the bed could bearly fit us together. The bed was also well beyond its sell by date. The room was airless forcing us to sleep with the window over the kitchen open with the rattle and shake of the worn out kitchen fans that ran all night.We had booked because we wanted a bit of luxury after a few nights in our very small camper van. The van would have been better!So the food and attentive staff are what has pushed this review up from one star.

Excellent food ans extremely friendly, attentive staff. Joined for a large family meal(+10 guests) and was blown away by quality of food despite us all ordering meals. Highly recommend! The affogato is definitely worth ordering!

Brilliant food, brilliant service. Literally were short staffed and were RUNNING around, and I had better service than most just restaurants.We didnt stay there, just for food and drinks. Couldn't recommend it enough.At lot of pubs in the area are brilliant for drinks and ambiance but when it comes to food fall into the "its fine" category. Not good, not bad, and Id rather had cooked myself. BQA is different, brilliant. If youre in the area (which means anywhere within a 45 min radius), its absolutely worth a visit.Cullen Skink

Was giving a gift voucher for 2 nights bed and breakfast and an evening meal. Treatment for the second we walked into the place was brilliant. Food was freshly cooked with very generous portion sizes.

Since writing this review I have been reached out to and compensated for my experience, and have had another meal here. Much better than last time. Also the food is really good so I will be back.I feel it’s important to warn anyone considering eating here about my experience.We ordered onion rings and chicken croquettes to start. The onion rings were nice, but instead of croquettes I was served chicken goujons. After I’d already eaten one of the four goujons, a member of staff realised the mistake, took the remaining three away, and replaced my starter with the correct order.The most concerning part came next. The goujons I’d been given were apparently meant for the table beside us. Rather than preparing them a fresh portion, the staff took back the plate I’d already eaten from and then served that same plate to the other table with only three goujons left. As far as the staff knew, I could have touched all of the food on that plate. That raises serious hygiene and food safety concerns and is something no customer should have to witness.The problems didn’t stop there. Our other main course, fish and chips, hadn’t even been written down, so it never made it to the kitchen. We then had to wait while this was rectified, meaning my mixed grill was sitting on the table going cold before we could eat together.When I did eat my mixed grill, I’d asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, but it arrived much closer to well done with only a slight hint of pink. I was told the steaks come pre-cooked as standard, but for a mixed grill costing over £20, that’s still very disappointing.The drinks order was also wrong. A White Russian arrived as a Black Russian. To be fair, this was one issue the staff dealt with properly—they replaced it with the correct drink free of charge, so credit where it’s due.To make matters worse, the napkin on the table was already soiled before I’d even used it. Given everything that had already happened, it left me questioning the restaurant’s hygiene standards.Despite raising these issues, there was no reduction to the bill and no real attempt to put things right beyond replacing the incorrect cocktail.Based on this experience, I won’t be returning. Mistakes happen, but serving food to another table after it has already been on someone else’s table is completely unacceptable. Combined with the forgotten main course, overcooked steak, dirty napkin and multiple ordering errors, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. I hope this review helps future customers make an informed decision before choosing to eat here.
