I contacted Rick initially based on a referral from the Rinnai website. I’m so happy I found this company. Based of the referral from the Rinnai site I obtained a quote from Rick for the removal of two direct vent hot water heaters and the installation of two new tankless hot water heaters. Ricks quote was consistent with several others I received and he communicated things to me very well- to include things I needed and more importantly, things I didn’t need. I now have instant hot water servicing my entire home. They completed the work in a timely manner but we had a few hiccups along the way. Our power went out due to a cold front during the installation. This left us without anything during a 9 degree cold spell. Rick was so helpful and even offered to bring things over to help with indoor heating for the night. That’s the mark of a good contractor- someone who genuinely cares. Worst customer service ever. We had Rick out to fill our AC coolant. My partner didn’t realize he had fraudulent activity on his bank account and when the check we gave him accidentally bounced because of the hold he trespassed back onto our property and removed the fuse to one of our AC units which resulted in turning the unit off without our knowledge. All without talking to us first. We gave him the check at 8:30am (time of service) and my husband called him back at 1pm (went to VM) and 3pm on the same day to discuss a cash payment since the check bounced. We have the call log records. Sometime between 11:15 and 3pm is when he came onto our property and instead of knocking on the door to talk to us about the issue he stole the fuse for the unit. All just for $250 worth of coolant. He could’ve simply knocked on the door and we could’ve handled it right then. Instead he chose to purposely put me and my family at risk. Meanwhile I was working from home all day in 90 degree heat with a small child and all my fire alarms were going off because it was so hot. He did not rush back. Entire family had to sleep in the basement and turn off fire alarms for the night because he didn’t come back with the plug fuse. Poor communicator. Shady business dealer. Cash payment was rectified within 24 hours of initial service. We are filing a complaint with the commissioner. That’s unacceptable behavior. Who does this?! Less

Most of all what I noticed was his ability to listen to what my situation was and offer suggestions of how to get the worked completed with quality while at the same time making it affordable to do the work instead of telling me I had to replace the entire system right away like other companys have done to me in the past. He did offered the replacement pathway but told us that we may be able to save money in other ways. We ended up fixing our system instead of replacing it and it easily saved us a few thousand dollars. He was also 15 minutes early to our second appointment and completed the work in less than 2 hours! Character wise, I felt that he had a great attitude, was allowing instead of pushing, was focused on us instead of the money, he was dependable, had integrity, and was punctual which is unfortunatey a rare combination to find these days. Rick Starling and this company are the absolute worst. Rick installed a 5 ton Lennox unit for us in April of this year. It took him 2 weeks longer to install the unit than he said it would take. The unit was too big for the original mounting space so he propped up the unit ON A 2X4 RESTING ON A BRICK... Yes - he propped up a 5 ton HVAC Unit on a 2x4 standing on a brick. He was called out 2 more times after installation because it was not installed correctly and not producing A/C. Once winter came this year, the unit was not producing heat. Rick Starling refused to come back out and take a look at the unit he himself installed not 6 months earlier. He said "not my problem." We had to hire another company to come and take a look at why this unit was not working. Turns out Rick wired up the unit incorrectly so the heat pump would never work. Upon further inspection it seems he did this intentionally because when wired correctly, it would trip the breakers. We had to hire an electrician to come in and fix this work that Rick clearly botched upon initial install. Now - the unit itself is producing a white powder that is blowing out from all the supply vents. This is a commercial space where we conduct business - and everything within our business is now covered in this fine white dust. We have had the duct-work inspected and a third party has concluded the unit itself is producing the white powder. Rick refuses to take any responsibility. He keeps blowing us off and will not help us to find anyone to even look at it! I have spoken with many other HVAC technicians at this point and everyone that has heard of Rick Starling has heard of stories like this before. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! He was out within hours and even though I expected furnace repair he was able to replace the bird cage fan and save me a ton of money and time.
