I have been coming to the guild for years and love shopping in here. If you love to treasure hunt this is the place to come.
Usually like this place, but learned they will turn you away at the door if you have a small stroller. A bit frustrating as a new mom just starting to get out of the house with a newborn.
Disorganized, chaotic mess. Migraine of a maze. So many other shops in Montrose to consign and buy from I wouldn’t bother here.
I don't understand a store that doesn't allow mothers with strollers. How are you supposed to shop and hold a nonwalking child? Some children are NON walkers for various reasons that SHOULD NOT have to be explained to strangers. Every stroller does not contain a BABY that can be held.

Honestly, everyone who I came into contact with was super nice and friendly and also they have a lot of cool unique items for gifts. Great people in addition they have a great store and product. I’d you live in the area you are so lucky and I’d you don’t, I promise it is worth the drive. A must in Houston ~ Swag

An assistant offered us an opportunity to view heirlooms from behind the glass near the register, but we didn’t have anything in mind for a closer look. I now wish I’d asked her about the jewelry before she left to keep our experience as bright as it was. We went to the jewelry kiosk to ask about men’s jewelry. The attendant(short haircut, glasses) behind the counter called out to another individual interrupting my boyfriend’s request twice, never bothering to return and clarify or offer assistance the way everyone else had in the store. She walked away and turned her body to face the opposite counter where no one stood. Please do better to not turn away young couples. Thankfully there were other shops nearby, we moved on to The List and Native Citizen. Less
I used to love shopping here but since having a child I'm realizing so many places discriminate against moms! If you don't allow strollers then you need to at least have buggies. I guess I should have just set her down and let her teeter into things???? I'm thankful I didn't have my handicapped mom in her scooter with me. I can't imagine her having to be turned away because of her handicap. I get that every place can set their own rules but when you choose to alienate a huge part of the population and discriminate against mothers you're bound to get a few angry reviews. Less

My wife was turned away from the store because she had an infant child in a stroller. The cross is for show; these people haven't a shred of Christian dignity. I would recommend people not to shop at this place, especially not parents.
Not wheelchair accessible in any sense of the word.
Hands down the best resale shop in H-town.

Took my best friend who loves to shop for treasure to the shop today to celebrate our birthdays and go have lunch. The ladies were BEYOND sweet, helpful and we found goodies from all departments 💜 this place…been coming for years but hadn’t been in a while. What a TREAT ! My friend loved it as well! And all proceeds are for charity! Go shop and make a donation! Round up that purchase!!

Fun and definitely a top- lass resale organization. Worthy of repeated return visits. Pricing is scaled to duration, but be wary, quality does come with a.richer pocketbook....
Found some great treasures here!
My experience at the Guild shop was great, the worker there named Trey was very insightful and helpful. My experience was very great as he was a very funny and friendly guy.
I wish so bad they stayed open until 4!!

I am absolutely appalled with the service my parents received at this establishment. They've always enjoyed visiting and on this occasion they received the worst service. They had reserved a box of lighters under their name and went to the register to claim it. The lady who attended them feigned ignorance and acted as if she couldn't understand what they were saying. My parents do not have heavy accents and regardless the way she handled this was very unprofessional. She repeatedly just said "huh"? And "I don't understand what you're saying" instead of trying to find an item or asking someone else for help. My parents kept saying they reserved a lighter and they kept repeating the name and she just kept saying she didn't understand. We've NEVER had this issue before. My dad asked someone else for help and she understood him immediately and assisted promptly. This was very insulting to us and I'm very disappointed. Less
Look out for a volunteer named Neal! He is very rude and acts as though people being inside the shop is an inconvenience. He yelled at everyone in his line (including us), and also at his coworkers when multiple came up to offer him help. Otherwise, this is an incredible shop with great deals. I love coming all the time!
Pricey but this is that place to find vintage unique items
Wonderful help from Sylvia!! We were able to find a set of bedside tables at a great price

Many of the prior reviews from others here are valid, both good and bad, SO this is a mixed bag review for me as a consignor: Most of the consignment intake people are cordial, some are ambivalent, and some are absolute gems, like Maria at the review/pricing table and the absolute sweetheart in the reception area (please forgive me, your name escapes me at the moment). For a "Christian organization" primarily staffed by volunteers, there are some who either take their roles a bit too seriously, or are just bitter and shouldn't be wasting their time if they aren't practicing Christian values in their attitude. I've been mostly consigning here (and occasionally shopping) for many years now and have formed the opinion that neither the customers nor consignors seem as important as their revenue, and comes off a bit like "move the product, the needs of our beneficiaries are most important". This building is far too small and they have SIGNIFICANTLY outgrown it based on the way much of the inventory is organized(? hmm)/displayed, and I think moving to the Heights in a larger capacity facility, or at least closer to I-10 where there are properties much more suitable for their needs for space would be ideal. It's also difficult to get around some people as there are other stubborn customers who won't shift themselves in the narrow walkways. Keeping the conditions of consignors' items does not seem paramount, as I have had items that were parts of sets come up missing and then lost the item to their donation because of such actions and the staff just shrug it off and "oh well, your loss" (just presented in a much more corporatized manner without compassion). Also, consigned furniture gets stacked upon with other items, causing the furniture items not to be in the same good condition in which they were initially consigned (scratches, scrapes, and dents; I think this is due to the constant turnover of the physical labor contingent that appears as if they are performing their required "community service", i.e., they don't really care, although I am just assuming based on previous similar experiences elsewhere). I'll continue to consign here, as the items I do actually sell pleasantly surprise me and outnumber/outearn the items I do lose to donation, I just don't need the "inner loop/Montrose/River Oaks" attitude from a select few volunteers there when I ask informational questions, they'd be better off doing their mimosa brunches and enjoying life in retirement...remember, one bad apple ruins the whole bunch for most. I just may not bring as nice of items as I used to, or as small, as these tend to get lost in display and eventually donation, or damaged. EVERY volunteer in every department here needs to be trained in cordiality and respect to every person that enters their shop to consign and purchase, as without consignors, you have no product to create revenue, and without customers, you have no revenue. No merchandise? No mission. Everyone plays an important part. Please remember that. Less

I went to shop and look around with my one year old who is a chunky baby. They wouldn’t allow me to have my travel stroller to push her around and there’s no way I can carry her and shop. I left and don’t plan on returning. From what I saw prices don’t seem great anyway
nothing but rude people here - no hate like Christian love if you’re a person of color or LGBTQ+ stay away from here!
Love the variety of items here- from furniture to clothes/jewelry to art and fine dishes! And the people who run the store and so kind!
Really neat place for some unique finds

Being my first time to the store I started to make my way to the furniture section when I was abruptly stopped by their security person. She told me I wasn’t allowed to take the clothes to that area. I told her this was my fist time at their store and I didn’t realize that was their policy. I told her I was going to try on the clothing in my basket. As she took the shopping basket from me, she told me she would put it up front or I could try them on. I told her I guess I would try them on now. After I selected items I wanted to purchase, I handed the basket to a different female worker. She looked at me weird as she took the basket from me. I told her I was told the would put my items upfront at the register. I didn’t really think anything of my encounter with the security officer until I saw her again in the furniture section where I was browsing without a basket. I then noticed other customers with clothes and baskets in that area and they were not being bothered by security. I hope management reviews the security footage to educate their security staff. I was there Monday between the hours of 11-1, female wearing a blue linen dress with leather nude colored sandals and a small nude color crossbody purse. Less

I’ve been here numerous times with my wife and have witnessed first hand the difference in attention that I may receive vs her when we are separated within the store and asking for help. Mainly to do with items locked up. Can there please be some training on subconscious bias for volunteers? Just a little education to help people ID what their bias may be and make efforts to not let it show on their face at times. It really got me thinking tho. The hours aren’t really conducive to actual working class people since they close at 330. I feel that if you have 170 volunteers, surely you can have the store open til seven on certain days at the very least? I truly feel that if the mission of the guild shop is to help those in need then they should be able to shop there with out having to take a day off of work. Anyway, there are some great treasures there. I hope to visit again sometime soon Less

A few months back I shopped here and asked how I could sign up to join (to consign). The woman at the front looked appalled that I would ever ask this question and began what felt like an interrogation of my religious beliefs by asking very specific questions about what parish I am with, what type of Christianity I am, so basically starting with the assumption that I am exactly what she is and continued to look oddly threatened that I would be anything else. When I answered the questions which didn’t align with her beliefs, she gave me all sorts of judgmental looks and told me she would “pray for me” - in the most condescending way. I was just asking about how to consign, not to join their volunteer program and left feeling very judged and uncomfortable. I do not plan to return, as I believe that shoppers should not be treated this way just because they have differing religious beliefs. There are plenty of reviews left here that make people not like them feel uncomfortable and the owner continues to defend it in a response, which just confirms my experience. Please do not invalidate these experiences as they are clearly consistently observed. Less

I rarely leave negative reviews and have never left a Google review, but I'm just very disappointed. Been shopping here for years (10+), mostly jewelry. Always had a lovely experience and enjoyed chatting with the volunteers, but in the last two to three weeks had very upsetting interactions with the jewelry department. I called in to purchase a piece (per policy) and found out after I went in a few days later to pick it up that it had been put back and sold becuase my card didn't go through (I made a different purchase that same day in the store so I'm assuming some numbers got jumbled in the phone call). I was told I had been called back soon after, but after checking my call log, that wasn't true. I let the manager know that I was upset, but ended up purchasing another ring and left - I felt I was very reasonable; I did not raise my voice, or flail my arms...etc. I just heard back from my jeweler (I make it a habit of taking any pieces I buy second-hand in for a check) that the stone in the ring I bought that day was synthetic. This would normally not be an issue, but I was told (erroneously) by a volunteer salesperson that while they didn't know what it was, they had it tested and knew it was natural. I called back and spoke to the jewelry manager again - in a call that lasted 5 min and 43 seconds where I was explaining how disappointed I was to have two unfortunate issues happen back to back in so short a time, she escalated the situation by cutting me off and saying she would give me my money back if I agreed to never shop there again. I have to say I was shocked. I had not asked for my money back and was not going to - I know the money goes to good causes. I had considered asking for store credit or an exchange, but was never given the time to even get to that point. I immediately responded that I would not need a refund, but I would also not be shopping there anymore. I will miss the lovely volunteers who I enjoyed chatting about jewelry with and sorry that I will not be purchasing/donating to this organization anymore, but I've never felt so disrepected by a business in many, many years. I would never tell anyone not to shop here, but if you purchase jewelry, just please be sure to ask specific questions ahead of time, take pictures with your phone, remember who you spoke to, and keep your receipt. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but this time I will. I was completely disappointed and in disbelief.

Seasoned thrifters, this is the promised land! Beautifully organized. Lots of furniture and decor. Don't miss it!
I took my first consignment of home decor to The Guild Shop recently. The volunteers met me in the parking lot to accept my items and the process was smooth and fast. I also enjoy shopping at the Guild.
Great resale variety shop. Bought a dresser!
I have been frequenting the Guild Shop for seven years, I love consignment clothes, home goods and furniture. The ease of working with Regina and staff to being in furniture, pricing it at a fair cost and receiving my check is a great way to pass on great furniture to others that can enjoy and use in their home.

I inquired about the consignment of the table she stated the reason it was consigned was because it belonged to the director. I asked to speak to the mgr and she confirmed it belonged to someone on the board. I don't agree with the fact that exceptions are made for the board of directors. She responded with "sorry". Less
The store is very interesting and offers a lot.... The only negative about this place is the security guard in the parking lot. He was very rude!
RUDE EMPLOYEES!! I asked to see a ring and an employee named CATHY handed it to me for 5 seconds before aggressively snatching it out of my hand. Apparently I look like a thief and can’t be trusted to admire a gold ring for more than 5 seconds. I really wanted to buy it but this interaction really put a damper on my first experience here. Won’t be back after feeling unwelcome.
So much variety and great prices.
Lots if unique and quality houseware
Excellent service in the store. I always manage to find something unique and affordable.
A giant selection of fun stuff. :) The staff/volunteers were really nice and helpful. I definitely want to go back.
So. Much. Awesome!
First time here. It is a lovely store, however the cashier was very rude.
I love this place because the owners are very welcoming. I really feel they appreciate my business.
I think this is one of my favorite thrift stores. I always seem to find at least one treasure to leave with. My favorites so far are a simple, yet lovely, painting of blackberries and the same exact trivet my mom had when I was growing up. 5 star rating isn't genuine. they delete bad reviews. shame on you.
The best selection and variety in Houston. Plus you support a charity as well... Love the staff and thankful they are volunteering during the pandemic!
I love The Guild Shop! It is the best resale/ antique shop in Houston, the best prices and new inventory everyday.
A great place to shop--good selection---good prices--a great place to meet nice people--I have been going to this place for more than 20 years.
Resource that benefits EVERYONE!
They have the BEST finds anywhere, great prices and very helpful staff! It's my favorite place to go when I come to Houston.
Just found out about this fabulous place! I wish I had known about it sooner. Bought some treasures for my new home that could not be found in the retail establishment today. Feeling blessed and happy!
There are many treasures here. It's always fun to go and see what you might find
The Guild Shop is filled with great finds. Wonderful volunteers, who have a love to help the elderly in need which is where the money raised is gifted and is in the mission statement of the Guild Shop. You can’t find more wonderful jewelry anywhere.
Unique finds and fabulous customer service that you don’t get at many of the other charity shops in the area. These ladies are welcoming, helpful and fun to shop with! Their cookbook ROCKS too!
They have beautiful clothes, furniture, rugs, kitchenware, jewelry. I highly recommend you visit their store! They support a worthy cause and the prices are outstanding!!! 5 star rating!!!
Great place to shop and consign.
Oh, Guild Shop. So disappointed in your customer service. I was in yesterday and saw a lamp I wanted but it was a little more than I wanted to spend. I went home & talked to my husband about it & decided to buy it today. I called & the person answering the phone referred me to the furniture department. I left a message saying I was interested. I went home & talked to my husband about it & decided to buy it today. I called & the person answering the phone referred me to the furniture department. I left a message saying I was interested. A little later the person did call back. The phone only rang 3xs then hung up before I could answer. There was no message left. I saw someone called & suspected it might be her so I called back & left another message but received no call back. I took the chance & drove over there. The lamp had just been sold & was being carried out the door. Can't tell you how disappointed I am. Less
Great stuff and a lot of it!
Fabulous finds everyday! Love all the smiles!
I Think is unique
I could spend hours looking at the items they have. Great prices that go down the longer the item has been there. I look forward to returning here.
This shop is very well organized, and has great bargains! I always look forward to shopping there when I’m in Texas!!
It is a wonderful place to shop. They have a great staff, and also it is a great way to make extra money. All the funds go to a worthy cause.
A great place to shop and yu never know what kind of treasures yu find!!!
What a great place! And--the hats are fun to try on!! Thanks!
Regina, the Consignment Manager agreed to consign 3 beautiful, solid wood, custom handcrafted, wall units offered at The Guild Shop from a volunteer who donated countless hours of her own time to there. The volunteer and her family appreciate the time and effort Regina has put forth in offering to consign the furniture to help pay for the volunteer's medical expenses.
I have been shopping here when we are close to Houston for five years! This is a treasure hunt extraordinaire! Mostly I find lots of jewelry. But I have also walked away with hard to find gifts, couldn't resist artwork and an office chair.
I loved the way they had the shop set up. Glass wear and china in one area, clothes in another, metal and wood in others. Very organized. Friendly and helpful staff. Next time I'm in town I'll make sure I visit.
Bargains Galore would be an appropriate nickname for The Guild Shop! Love the store but the garage sale and I are in an amazing relationship! Enjoy buying beautiful clothes for me but also for others and have found so many beautiful gifts for others for special occasions and one of the really special effects, is that my money goes to help others, not for gain for a large conglomerate! I recently purchased accessories for my new office and have already received several compliments on my wooden chairs. The staff was helpful and friendly. When we returned for our items a few days letter, the pick up/loading process was a breeze for me. Thank you, Guild Shop!
I LOVE my new position as executive director of The Guild Shop. What a terrific place to be....the volunteers, consigners, and customers are the best. The treasures are unbelievable!! Our mission is to serve the elderly in need. We have been doing that since 1962. Come see me soon!!!
