I am 40 years old with several issues with my shoulders and my neck for the past 10+ years that have been very painful at times. I have been studying Oom Yung Doe for 2 months and have seen significant improvement with my injuries. The training is extremely beneficial for anyone looking to increase their flexibility, energy, and strength. Highly recommend.
At 62 years old I can think of no better way to improve and enjoy my life than with Oom Yung Doe training. After 2 1/2 years of training in San Diego most of my elderly aches, pains, and difficulties are gone and I am very happy with my quality of life. I am very grateful for all that Oom Yung Doe Instructors do.

I have been attending Oom Yung Doe (OYD) - San Diego for about the last 16 months now and I have been very impressed with the teachings I have gotten in that time. Regional Head Instructor Hunter, Instructor Jeff, and other school instructors have been very attentive to my needs to get me to understand movement from a very different perspective that I have never experienced before. I did Karate when I was a child, and I was a wrestler throughout high school. In addition to that, prior to the lockdowns in 2020, I was doing Kung Fu for about 2 years, so I have a significant amount of experience in martial arts and combat trainings. Oom Yung Doe takes it up to a whole other level of learning movement, discipline, breathwork, weapons training, internal energy, and even meditation. Don't get me wrong, it has been a challenging process, but it has also been very rewarding. Most importantly, it has paid off immensely well in my own health and exercise performance. At 36 years old, I have been able to clear a 48" box jump, and my mobility and flexibility has never been better since I've committed to the trainings I have experienced at OYD San Diego. As a chiropractor by trade, I understand the value of proper movement of the body and how you transmute your energy, and I can say with full confidence that if you genuinely want to challenge yourself to step up into a new level of understanding what potential you are capable of, OYD San Diego is a great starting place! We were looking for a martial arts school that would help our daughter build confidence. Omm Yung Doe operated by Instructor Jeff is a fascinating collection of martial arts that date back thousands of years. Instructor Jeff not only appears to be a master of his craft he is humble and great with children. Patient yet stern. Just what we were looking for. We have noticed our daughter is learning to focus. A huge breakthrough in my book. Based on what we are observing we believe her continued participation will lead to increased confidence, self awareness, discipline, resilience and an overall appreciation for a healthy lifestyle, skills that we hope will help her overcome life’s challenges and adversities. 8 BENEFITS I’ve gotten from Oom Yung Doe’s 8 MARTIAL ARTS in One In September 2020 I happened upon the studio by accident. I was greeted by a Regional Head Instructor who was training on the mat. He offered me a free 1 hour lesson and I accepted. It was among the most positively consequential decisions of my life. Here are 8 ways my life has changed since that day. 1. Stronger and more supple ligaments and joints. I was coming off a surf accident and nursing a bad shoulder and unsure if I’d ever surf again. I was immediately introduced to a series of shoulder fortifying movements that had me back in the water within 6 or 7 weeks. The same is true for my other joints. When I step of a curb wrong or roll my ankle everything is just more elastic and recovers within a few steps. 2. Clearer Personal Inner Dialogue Many of the techniques from breathing to katas focus on strengthening the mind body connection. Somewhere in the act of telling my body what to do a clearer ear to my inner voice developed. In professional, competitive or confrontational situations my mind is clearly filtering and delivering data to my consciousness that direct me to the best possible decisions. 3. My Eyesight Improved Many of the techniques involve spins and leans that foster enhanced control over one’s gaze and peripheral awareness. I’ve had the same eye prescription since college (I’m in my mid 40s now) and my optician reported last spring, a year into my training, that my eyesight had improved about .75 in one eye and almost a full 1.00 in the other. 4. Identifying Energy and Intentions in Others I’m not sure precisely what aspect of the training fosters this but I am many orders of magnitude more aware of people’s awareness and intentions toward me. Peek-a-boo, I see you, seeing me. I have an instinct I’ve never been aware of where I can more keenly discern whether a person wishes me well or ill and have the confidence to either confront or the judgment to retreat in a way that has served me greatly. 5. Return of my 20-something Athleticism I lived in Europe in my early twenties and was considered a talented soccer player. Speed, awareness, flexibility quick on field decision making. Eventually, these faded as I rounded the corner into my early 30s to the point where I stopped playing. Recently I was invited to a pick up game with 25-35 year olds. Despite being the oldest player on the field and having not played in a decade, I was surprised to discover that my skills had returned. I even scored the first goal! Gray beard and all. The 30 something’s were scratching their heads. 6. Improved my Surfing My training enhanced my shoulder strength, balance, vision, breath control and flexibility which in turn improved my surfing 3 fold. Again, like the soccer, this improvement came as a surprise when I paddled out the first time after my shoulder improved. Despite the nearly 2 months off I had gotten better! 7. Midday Movements - A better Power Up than Coffee I’m a working professional and can sometimes spend long, sedentary days in the office. The professional culture is to get a gourmet coffee to power through the long afternoons. Oom Yung Doe has so many movements for the muscles and ligaments of the body. Eventually you gravitate towards the ones that work best for your particular body and these send a rush of energy and oxygen through the brain that the body instantly recharges. It’s changed the way I process the daily stress and exhaustion of my career. 8. Enhanced Fertility? Ok, I can’t scientifically prove this one. BUT… my wife and I tried to get pregnant for about 18 months. No luck. I began training in earnest in October 2020, we conceived in December 2020 and had a very healthy baby boy. Maybe it was just our time but the calendar correspondence between the training and the conception are certainly undeniable. I have seen a notable increase in the potency of my physical strikes, agility, fortitude to take contact and clarity of internal narrative during confrontation. At this point assaulting me would be... unpleasant. Less

I feel happy all the time, no matter the circumstances. I sleep very well; I feel I have great energy and stamina. When I go hiking with friends, they are always amazed how much I can walk and how fast. Many of them are many years younger than me and yet I am the one always ahead of all of them and still full of energy to keep going. At school I am always surprised at how many new movements we learn every day and how much they help us to get strength, focus, internal and external stability, and equilibrium. I recommend Oom Yung Doe to everyone who wants to increase their health condition and stay feat all their life. You should try for yourself to find out all the benefits you can get from it. Less

Oom Yung Doe is an incredible system of martial arts training. Students study 8 different martial arts that are seamlessly integrated. Kung fu, udo, Kong su (similar to karate or tae kwon doe), samurai sword, 18 chinese weapons, aikido, tai chi and bagua. This gives students really balanced development and ultimately allows you to create a personal practice that is beautifully tailored to your individual needs. At Oom Yung Doe movement is a tool to win over whatever challenges you have in life, whether you want to overcome depression or serious health challenges. It is serious, authentic, traditional martial arts and the benefits are undeniable. I train primarily at an Oom Yung Doe location in Massachusetts but took some classes at this school while I was in the area. The level of instruction at this school is incredible. The three classes I took had two instructors, I believe a 4th and 8th degree black belt (that's just shy of "master"). I really can't overstate what an incredible opportunity it is to train here with these instructors-- the highest ranking instructors in our system are based here in San Diego and it is very new that there is a school here with regular classes. Previously the Master Level Teaching team traveled to other schools in the country-- even having the opportunity to train with them a few times a year has been life changing. In my two years at Oom Yung Doe I went from fainting 20 times a day and not being able to work for 9 years to being in better shape than I was as a high school athlete-- and that is just scratching the surface of the positive change I've felt. I've watched my fellow students get their weight under control, quit smoking, overcome depression, stop feeling suicidal, get past the need for various medications, heal long standing injuries, overcome social anxiety, the list goes on and on. The students are diverse in age (20's-60's), gender, race, religion, and background-- the unifying factor is that Oom Yung Doe is a place for people who are serious about making positive change in their lives. If you want to take control of your life and really change, grow, and overcome your mental and physical limitations, this is absolutely the place for you. Less

I'm now much healthier. When I found Oom Yung Doe I had many body problems from being active. I had issues with my knees from running, shoulder issues from fencing, back pain from sitting too much and other issues. I did yoga for 7 years which did help some, but I wasn't prepared for what happened when I found Oom Yung Doe training. Some issues improved within a month, such as my back and shoulder. Others took longer. On top of my injuries getting better, I personally got stronger and more flexible. And mentally I felt more relaxed and focused. It's hard to pinpoint why the training makes such a difference. There are many open hand forms and the weapons also promote a lot of development. I highly recommend training at the school for health and longevity. Less

La calidad y el buen trato de sus instructores, es una escuela nueva relativamente en San Diego pero, con mucha tradición e historia, hay escuelas en diferentes partes de Estados Unidos con muy buena reputación y finalmente tenemos una cerca .... me encanta 😊
