You have one chance to get it right.We have been mulling over ideas for refreshing our mid-1990's kitchen which had dark countertops, walnut shade cabinets, and an oddly colored grout, and surface stained and dirty ceramic tile floor. It was quite a change from our previous all white Corian countertops, laminate cabinets, and white ceramic tile floor. This is an interior kitchen with a pass-through opening to the living room. An earlier attempt to improve kitchen by installing black marble floor tiles on the countertops and at the backsplash areas was a colossal failure. The multiple grout lines, dark color, and poorly cut tiles with sharp edges needed to be removed if only for personal safety. The color also made the kitchen appear much darker. But could we successfully complete a partial refresh to our satisfaction without blowing our budget? In this current financial climate, we were concerned about whether we could afford achieve a positive make-over of this central eyesore of our new condominium. We found the solution through Kitchen Tune-Up. From the completion of their on-line consultation form through the project implementation, our sales contact, one of the owners, and the numerous trade staff responded and/or reported on time and were neat, skilled, pleasant, and professional in the completion of all their tasks.It's best to do your homework before embarking on a project like this. We looked at numerous photos to help us sort through ideas of what we sought in appearance and improved functionality. For example, we added the slide-out (“S”) corner and several conventional storage drawers into our existing counter cabinets. Kitchen Tune-Up provides a wide range of cabinet and doors style and color finishes and companion hardware to choose from. They also provided resources to select cabinet hardware and tile. We elected to do a reface/replace option as it best fit our goal of refreshing our kitchen. We replaced all cabinet doors, the countertop and pass-through ledge, sink, and backsplash. We also chose to update electrical items and replaced plug in task lights with continuous under cabinet lighting as well as upgrade all countertop electrical outlets. We added cabinet trim molding for a more finished appearance to the top cabinets. And all this work was completed in less than a week. Instead of replacing solid cabinets and the existing tile floor, we decided to strip them back and build on their strengths. NOTE: An independent contractor cleaned and restored the floor. We have one remaining step and that is to have the room painted. We have chosen the wall paint color, and the painting will be done by an outside contractor this coming Tuesday.The Kitchen Tune-Up staff provided expert guidance and suggestions along the way which added great value to the spectacular product of their collective work. Not being pressured throughout this experience has helped us make the right choices. We actually had Steven's team do our bathroom first and loved the work so much we came back for the kitchen. Same great experience. Showed up on time, stuck to the quote, no surprises. The kitchen turned out even better than we expected. Now they're the go-to for all my friends and family

We are very happy with the work done by the Kitchen Tuneup staff and love our new kitchen. We knew up front that we were paying top dollar and expected exceptional service. We got that from all the workers. A project manager coordinates all aspects of the project. We saw her once when she came to take measurements. We were very surprised that she never stopped by to check on the progress or at the end to see the completion of the job. She must rely on the pictures taken by workers at the end of each day. Also, we picked tile and hardware that cost more than the allotted amount. We knew that we would pay the difference but didn't expect that we would pay the retail rate when we knew they paid a discounted rate. Neither the project manager or sales person had an answer for this. We expected better when paying top dollar. Overall we are very satisfied but would have asked more questions up front.

The Kitchen tune-up team ultimately came out with a kitchen that we love. We went with cabinet refacing, new countertops and a new herringbone backsplash. Nicco, Joel and the team in the day to day were fantastic, with advice when we were implementing, everywhere from where tiling wouldn't work to direction of the cabinets. Where we weren't so happy was the overall management. While Takia and Ben ultimately delivered on a product we loved, to get there was a constant struggle in communication and looking for expert opinions.
